How do people go about good value European breakdown cover, it needs to cover a 3.5 ton, 3.4 meter (ie bed over cab) height 7 meter long.

Already have RAC (including eurpean cover) for our cars (personal membership so covers any vehicle if driving/passenger)
Just renewed and checked with RAC, limits are: -
Max weight 3.5 tonne
Width 2.55 m
Length 3.4 m (including towbar if fitted)
Height not quoted.

Therefore in my case no additional cost!

Car broke down last year in France and experience was generally good so I am happy
Are you sure you’ve got the length correct. That’s only something like a Fiat 500

But double check the cover on this, which you should ask about if you have historic rights you may get better, we have been with them since before their change of name many years back
What do you mean with historic rights.

With the Nationwide FlexPlus account. On the off chance does anyone know how long the european cover is for?
Information is in the small print, but it's for the full term of the policy. Very good value for money IMHO.

Where did you find this?
There is no mention of a time restriction in my policy booklet.
I have been going for 80ish days thinking I am covered.

Unusual for me to post as I am usually wrong but had heard an interesting and relevant comment recently. Out of habit when we renew our Motorhome Insurance I usually add both of us on the policy as drivers. I am almost exclusively the main driver but were I to hypothetically break my arm whilst in say Puglia there would be little/no chance that my wife would want to drive our 4.5 ton motorhome back. The point being that this is quite different to sharing the driving for an occasional long stretch. The insurance company would probably not be inclined to repatriate ourselves or the motorhome with two drivers noted on the policy. Apologies for stating the obvious and others will have thought this through but I hadn't!

I had a look last year and thought it was only 31 days. But on looking last night I could not find any information in the small print.

This is true which is why I’ve now taken myself off my husbands policy. This was also confirmed by Comfort Insurance when I spoke to them.

AA won’t offer european recovery for a 3.5 tonne van
Been through all the hoops but had to get red flag for peace of mind
Interesting my policy says they will & full repatriation? The AA policy through Comfort has no limits on length or height.

Their (AA's) own offer seems to be more limited than that offered by the AA but via Nationwide, Comfort etc.

Normal cover is max of 31 days for each trip, but you can buy longer trip upgrades. Max trip length (upgrade) is now 120 days.

That's travel insurance not breakdown insurance
This is really strange as Nationwide cover is via the AA and it’s 8m length and 7.5t weight.

Actually there is no length limit given for in the UK with the AA. The limit is 8 metres in the EU but it won't be AA then anyway.

I think you are referring to the travel insurance. The breakdown cover doesn't seem to have any limits - not that I can find anyway. Would be interested to see them if I am mistaken.

How was the repatriation experience?
Did it take long?
Absolutely spot on!
Broke down (water pump bearings shattered) lunchtime on Bank Holiday Saturday just off the A28 in Normandy. Pressed 'Rescue Me' on Green Flag app.
Answered within one minute.......Breakdown lorry arrived within 40 minutes.....Taken to Recovery Yard five miles away....Phoned by Green Flag Europe within 30 minutes and offered Hotel as it was Bank Holiday. Chose to stay with motorhome as we had all we needed. Asked us what we would like, fix local next week or repatriation. We chose repatriation due to Jean's medication, Holiday Insurance expiring on the Wednesday and,
AHC for dog running out.
They contacted us each day to keep us up to date.
Tuesday AM Business Class brand new Mercedes picked us up, including our dog, and took us to Dieppe. Ferry had been booked, including special dispensation to walk on with dog to kennel supplied on car deck. By the way, DFDS Dieppe is the only ferry in France that does that.
Arrived Newhaven at 3pm, where a Enterprise Rental Car was waiting for us to go home. We dropped it off the next day at our local branch.
Motorhome brought back 30 days to my local garage by a specialised company, Ontime Automotives. Delay due to Customs, etc.
Although very stressful at the time it was the perfect repatriation and Green Flag are to be commended for that.

Nationwide Flex Plus current account. £13 per month for personal cover - any vehicle you or your partner drive including motorhomes unlimited length in UK up to 8 metres in Europe (up to 7.5.ton) Operated by AA in UK. In addition full worldwide travel insurance for you and your family.

It really is a bargain and excellent cover. Cheaper than similar cover direct with the AA.

Yes we use that one but was aware it was only up to 8 metres as our MH is 8.26?

It's in the insurance product information document. You can download it here... https://www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/flexplus/breakdown-cover/

You might get away with 26cm if you just don't say anything. I doubt the operator would get his tape measure out!
