Email from Popit regarding roaming

Just received this from popit, looks like they’re changing too

We are writing to inform you of a significant update regarding our EU roaming services. Our connectivity partner, Transatel/NTT, has made changes to the roaming data allowances, which will take effect on 1st October 2024.
The updated roaming allowances are as follows:
1GB plan: 512MB for EU roaming
3GB plan: 768MB for EU roaming
10GB plan: 2.5GB for EU roaming
20GB plan: 7.5GB for EU roaming
100GB plan: 25GB for EU roaming
We were only informed of these changes at 9 AM on 23rd September 2024, and we want to emphasize that these adjustments are outside of our control. We understand that this may cause inconvenience, and we deeply regret any disruption this may cause to your services.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding how this will impact your usage, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us within the next 5 working days. Our team is here to assist you and provide any further information you may need.
 
Predictable it was going to happen.

Many moons ago I used to deal directly with the major telecoms companies world wide sorting out traffic deals.
(We used to deal with messages numbered in millions per day, so the TelCo's wanted our traffic.)

I'd be very interested to read the Poppit/Transatel wording on the traffic agreement, as normally any change in rates has at least a 90 day warning, with the understanding of 180 days advance warning so that we could get the paperwork changed, websites updated, resellers informed etc.

My guess is Poppit are piggybacking off someone elses agreement, very much as a minor third party sub-vendor.

I got the same email - still don't know what the allowance is for the 30gb package! Is it too much to ask to find a reliable service that means I can occasionally get 30gb of data in a month while in France. Its a PITA
 
O² are Spanish owned so they could offer roaming at no extra charge for themselves, wonder if they'll start tightening up, if so it's down to lack of competition 🤔

I have a feeling that 20gb in their email will be a typo and it really is 30gb with 7.25gb roaming, in their options they don't list 20gb.
 
Wor lass and myself both have the 30Gb package with Popit. We are at the moment away in Spain until the beginning of December, if we were at home I would kick them into touch instantly, but being away it’s not so easy, so we are just going to have to run with it until we get back home. Bloody annoying not getting any notice.
 
I was happy to go with Popit even though I was paying £25 per month for my Mifi but if I don’t get my full allowance then I will change to ID and pay £12 per month for the same gb’s and then look into esims when in Europe for longer amounts of time.
 
Yep we're in Germany on the Mosel using Popit and just read the email really disappointing.
They'll be getting the boot ASAP

I checked the website. 30GB is indeed 7.25GB. I'll stick with the for now as the 5G speeds while roaming in the UK have been superb. May look at an additional eSim next time we travel though.

I have the same email today from Popit. Was looking at ID, they do a plan at £12 per month for 120GB, (£6 for the first 3 months) 30GB roaming limit on a 12 month contract. Can I ask a stupid question. We use motorhome Wifi, will the sim for the ID one fit?. Sorry am not techy savvy. Most of the companies talk about the sim fitting your phone.

I've no idea why people get so worked up about this. I need data all them time, and yes It's a pain in the bum, but...E-sims get me there, then value for money local SIMs are perfect for when Starlink isn't up. (y). No different for any third country, American, Australian etc
 
My Popit was a ‘normal’ SIM and used it in the Mifi, no issues. I used ID in my phone and it was been great so I will be getting another SIM for the Mifi and when my husband’s contract finishes with Vodafone, he is swapping as well. My Mifi is T P link.

Yes it will fit you may need the adaptor but I found my ID sim in a router returns really slow speeds.

Interesting, I will trying my phone ID sim in the mifi and see how it works.

I am with Pop It but have heard nothing from them BUSBY.

It has everything to do with Brexit.

UK is now a third country.
Hence we are no longer part of the EU roaming agreement.
Which means the carriers can change whatever they like, for whatever level of service they like, or even withdraw from the market if they like.

Bottom line is the Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Irish etc motorhomes parked next to you, on the EU campsite, all pay one rate right across the EU for their mobile access.

You pay a special premium '3rd country' rate which is twice as much for half the service with limitations on bandwidth and data usage.
At least you can commiserate with other Third Country citizens such as the Albanians, Moroccans and Serbians.

However it's not all good news, as the EU users get stung for mobile access when they are in the UK, so it's their turn to pay double the amount for half the service.

Its a small price to pay though.

I noticed you just got rid of the naff eu flag as an avatar, about time.... Lose the bitterness pal, its been more than 10 years. Are you trying to belittle us lumping us with albanians and serbs etc, most of the world isnt in the little Eu roamingclub
 
I guess Popit mobile support team have had a busy day but the replies have been very prompt,

I asked'

"Thank you for your reply, I have paid in good faith for a 100gb 1 month contract which renews on the 18th of the month I believe, are you saying that this will not be honoured and if I have used 25gb by 1st October I will be cut off?"

The reply

"Hi Martin & Jen,

From the 1st of Oct, you can only use 25GB when roaming. Up until that point, you can use all of your data allowance when roaming, should you wish (all remaining allowance)

Once your data renews again on 18th Oct, if you are still roaming, you will once again be restricted to 25GB. Note that your usage in UK will be 100GB"

As we are still in France on 1st October my interpretation of this is, No I/we will not be cut off even if we use the full 100gb before 1st October, after 1st October we will have another 25gb so could actually have 125gb roaming in this current period, after that of course the 100gb monthly contract only qualifies for 25gb roaming.
 
Do you remember when we were told nothing would change, providers wouldn’t introduce roaming fees?

Wrong.
I’ve spoken to many people that have the same restrictions outside their countries residing in Europe

I’ll add this from orange Spain. As you can see you don’t get the same amount as when in Spain.

That’s the same as here. They are changing the rules every where nothing to do with Brexit whatsoever . Starlink included.

Yep, I have BT WiFi at home for my laptop which I use only for emails, online banking, Google, Fun and two motorbike message boards. It never leaves the house. The only time I've needed the internet when travelling was at a car park in Guildford that only accepted payment by phone so I didn't stop there.
