Easter 2014 At Chester Food Festival

Not sure whether to put this in here or in UK Touring, but anyway.....

I don’t know the area very well, which is one of the reasons for coming over early, to see some of it.

I know quite a few people are planning to be at Delamere Forest after the meet, before going on to Peterborough. Anyone planning to be there beforehand?

At a similar distance from Chester, but cheaper & also much recommended by Funsters, is Lady Hayes.

The Fairoaks CC site looks fine for a bit of retail therapy, but that always makes me feel worse, rather than better & it looks a bit too close to the motorways for a quiet time. They are also charging high season rates for the whole of that week. That’s twenty quid that could be better spent with the Frodsham Brewery at Lady Hayes.

Looking at small sites, close to Chester there is a CL at Landsdowne Road, Tarvin & an independent site called Netherwood on the A41 just out of Chester heading for Whitchurch.

Further away, there is the Funsters’ favourite, the Cotton Arms. Pub sites always appeal, so there is the CS at The Griffin Inn, halfway to Wrexham & another at The Carriages Public House at Gatesheath, just north of Tattenhall, although this one gets slightly mixed reviews.

So, any thoughts, recommendations, comments? Anyone doing anything similar?

 The car park next to the river and the Chester meet is apparently good I will ask Carol if I can contact her to let you know the name. . Rue something.

Little Roodee car park opposite side of bridge to the racecourse, not sure of parking cost in the daytime but £1.60 for the night

I have not been following this thread for a while. Is there a list of attendees so far does anyone know?

I stayed at a CL, which I can recommend not far away from Chester, its . . Beech Farm at Mickle Trafford, nice and quiet, good facilities, 1/4 mile walk to pub and food, bus stop to Chester 200yd away, was £12 a night including eletric when I stayed, don't suppose its gone up much since,

We noticed it is at the same day that we are going to the NEC craft show.

Thanks to both of you who mentioned this one. I wasn't planning to stay in a car park, but I've certainly stayed in worst places than this one. It's actually quite attractive!

They certainly allow overnight parking. No mention on their website of an specific ban on sleeping in a parked vehicle. A good spot for daytime Thursday for an early explore & at a push, might do for an evening arrival Wed. The car park is locked after 10pm, so no boy racers at 2am. :thumb: We can close the rear off at night without using the cab blinds, so can be very discreet when required.

I had rejected it because it’s right on a busy main road & opposite a builder’s merchant’s yard. The three reviews I found all complained about the noise – although one of them complained more about the noise from fellow campers than from the road. I don’t think he could hear the traffic above the barking dogs & screaming kids!

Might be worth putting back on the shortlist.

Glad it was ok for you.

I am surprised more people havn't decided to park there to visit the Food Festival as so much more cheap than the show itself and still close to Chester and all that the city offers.

Easter at Chester

Hi Jim, I've paid and registered, can you add me to the list please. Do we have a registration form? Is there a list of attendees? I've tried trawling through the thread but can't find answers to these questions. Looking forward to catching up with everyone again.

Daiboy.

Not at home at the moment so can not give the name at the moment but there is a nice site 10 minutes from the food festival, just off the Sealand Road and 2 min from the Park and ride into Chester, and close to the cycle path and the river Dee. The Roudee car Park Movan mentions is £1.50p overnight and approx £6 for the day, you can sleep in the van no problem there are Always vans there! we have used it often.

Thornleigh Park Farm?

Thanks for confirming that. As car parks go, it's certainly more picturesque than most & a good base from which to explore the town. Google Street View even shows a M/H parked up there!

In theory. However, when I was there a couple of months ago the barrier was still open gone midnight, which meant that when I woke up around 7am I found that I wasn't the only person staying overnight after all....a big motorhome had arrived to double the numbers. So if you're lucky you can arrive later.

I believe the overnight ticket also allows you to stay until 9am, even though the normal parking charge starts earlier.

Useful to know if I'm ever over that way on my own. OH likes a little more certainty in her life!

Yes, that's how I interpret what they say on their website. If we did stay overnight, we'd probably use it as a base to explore the town during the following day, so would still need to pay the daily rate. At least I wouldn't have to get up early to get another ticket though!

Easter at Chester

Hi we are new to Motorhome fun and not sure how it works, but we asked to have our names put down for this meet back in November and we are not sure if it was put on the list although there seems to be lots of names that asked after us. Please could some one explain what we seem to be doing wrong ?

Thanks Kath

Hello Kath

This will be our first meet as well, on page 1 of the thread there is a link to the web site, you need to make your own booking then post back on this thread to tell all you have booked

I tried an online booking but couldn't cope!! so I rang them, very helpful, just tell them you are with Motorhome Fun, decide if you want electrics (check price they are expensive, I recall £35?) then we will meet in a few weeks

Hi Nibs. Welcome to FUN.

Go to page one, and follow Jim's instructions. Broken Link Removed

We found it best to phone and book with the organisers, as some folks had problems with the online booking facility.

See you there, :thumb:
