DVLA WAITING TIMES

had forms returned as they could not lift my photo from my passport.
If there is more than 56 days to go on the expiring license they can use the old photo, no need to submit photo. After that you need a new photo, the passport photo is only used to verify your identity on the new photo not replace it but it does save having to get the new photo witnessed.

Post from the Liverpool Echo today.

These are the dates that DVLA are working on.
Don't shoot the messenger!!!

Updated processing dates for paper applications

The following dates apply to what the DVLA claims it is currently working on for different types of paper applications:

  • Renew a driving licence with a new photo - 21 September
  • Apply for a first provisional driving licence with UK identity - 12 October
  • Renew a driving licence if you’re 70 or over or after disqualification or revocation - 27 September
  • Apply for a first vocational driving licence - 29 November
  • Renew a vocational driving licence - 26 November
  • Apply for a driving licence with non-UK identity - 4 October
  • Apply for or renew a tachograph card - 2 December
  • Apply to change your name or address on your driving licence - 22 September
  • Tell DVLA about the sale of a vehicle -30 November
  • Vehicle registration certificate (V5C) changes - 26 November
  • Apply for a replacement V5C log book - 24 November
  • Register a vehicle for the first time (including previously used and imports) - 23 November
  • Retain or assign a vehicle registration number - 23 November
It's important to note that if you don't receive your vehicle documents within six weeks of an application you will have to contact the DVLA.
Sorry to sound thick here but I just dont understand these dates at all.

Whatever application you sent in to the DVLA, the dates shown are the dates they are dealing with first ,So if say you are 70 and sending in your renewal by post ,they are now checking those sent in from the 27 th Sept. IE some 4 months from sending the renewal.if you send yours in now it may not be started to be checked until May ( as the time of posting the info)

Imagine a load of post arrives at your house every day. It's sorted into various items that need your attn.
The dates as shown are the dates that the mail arrived that you will attending to today.

If the dates on the application and D4 predate the 3 months allowed they might reject it. The D4 medical report would perhaps be 6 months old by the time it was processed it and that might well be unacceptable too.

The D4 medical for has to be no more than four months before licence renewal date and then remains valid for 12 months from receipt by DVLA.

The dates in the newspaper article are not the dates the DVLA are currently giving which can be found here.
Just scroll past the blurb until you get to the table.

Yes ,it's moved on a bit now since Emmit posted the info, I did add a note that the dates advised were as per the date of the post.I was simply trying to help with fifthwheel question.
But thanks for the update. (y)

I sent the application before the 56 days, but as my photo had expired I understood from the website that they can use you passport photo but obviously not. Am on hold with DVLA 16 mins so far?/!!

True, to be fair have just got through to the first line of enquiry. Very friendly helpful chap, told him the story, he explained that the licence line and the medical line have different computer systems and although he could go so far I would have to speak to the medical dept. He gave me a reference number and transferred the call. Still on hold 55 mins in total. At least they have different music.

Only 16 !!! best you go and make a coffee, or 2

Expecting a delay in renewing my HGV & PSV licence which expires on March 20th, as an experiment, I started the ball rolling much sooner that I normally would. I had the medical on Dec18th, sent the D2 & D4 forms off on Dec 20th, along with a recent photo and a cheque for £17.00, (as a belt and braces job, just in case ;) ).
The renewal was issued on Jan 6th, and my new licence was with me by Jan 11th, dated to expire on March 20th 2023.................along with a cheque for a £17.00 refund. (y)

I can't expect any better a service than that from them. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Problem being with waiting times that the 56 days is out of the window as you can only apply 90 days prior and at 3 month waiting list before it even reaches someone’s desk? You have no chance so send a photo anyway😊

As long as they have received it with 56 days to run it should be ok.

I trust from your post that though you had a medical you have no medical issues that the DVLA felt the need to follow up on such as further tests etc, had this been the case you would have found delays that go on for months as many have been posting about.
l experienced a five month renewal time as l had minor issues but my wife who applied at the same time for C1 etc with no issues had hers returned within 3 weeks.

You are spot on. :) I'm maybe not as fit as the fiddle I used to be as fit as ;) but fit enough to pass with flying colours. :dance2:
I've been doing HGV/PSV medicals for years now, so I know what is expected of me. (y) My renewal application was for a vocational licence, and marked up as "key worker", which I believe are being fast tracked due to the "perceived" driver shortage.

The Doctor carrying out the medical was complimentary on my diligence, with the completed D4 I presented to him. He advised me not to take any chances with DVLA, and photo copy everything, (as I always do), as 2 x candidates had to re take their medicals, due to DVLA either losing the applications, or not acting within the 4 x month life of the medical. Those candidates had to cough up again, out their own pockets

I am not normally complimentary of DVLA, but in my case, they got it bang on. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Not surprised but this thread was started to inform Funsters.
I note that DVLA are not playing catchup.
They are maintaining the same awful level of service, week in, week out.
When I was in employment with an injury or whatever, I took work home. Does a positive LFT prevent someone doing some work?

I think some are working from home,I spoke to them yesterday who said some of the initial applications are being sent out, hence the wildly differing times being quoted on here, but all the medical checks have to be done at the offices in Swansea. Helpfully the D2 and D4 are entered onto different computer systems that can't work together

If you want an extra week off work it must be very easy these days,,
" hi boss just did a +ve lateral flow test, should I come in to work?"
Easy peasy.
Get the decorating done. (y)

Just de registered 44 BN off my M5.

Surprise surprise they are sending me the new number to put on in replacement. 0006 RSN, well bugger me, this is a reg i thought we had lost (Roberrt Stewart Nicholson).
We also have 0006 SAN (wife) somewhere in the bowels of DVLA.

Lifes full of surprises eh.
