DVLA WAITING TIMES

Apparently, DVLA employ over 5000 directly at Swansea so losing 2% to covid shouldn't make a heap of difference.
But as most are working from home with few in the office surely there should be no problem as those with covid can still work from home & swop with non-sick ones.
To my mind unless, you have died you, can't be "off sick " if you work from home?

Post from the Liverpool Echo today.

These are the dates that DVLA are working on.
Don't shoot the messenger!!!

Updated processing dates for paper applications

The following dates apply to what the DVLA claims it is currently working on for different types of paper applications:

  • Renew a driving licence with a new photo - 21 September
  • Apply for a first provisional driving licence with UK identity - 12 October
  • Renew a driving licence if you’re 70 or over or after disqualification or revocation - 27 September
  • Apply for a first vocational driving licence - 29 November
  • Renew a vocational driving licence - 26 November
  • Apply for a driving licence with non-UK identity - 4 October
  • Apply for or renew a tachograph card - 2 December
  • Apply to change your name or address on your driving licence - 22 September
  • Tell DVLA about the sale of a vehicle -30 November
  • Vehicle registration certificate (V5C) changes - 26 November
  • Apply for a replacement V5C log book - 24 November
  • Register a vehicle for the first time (including previously used and imports) - 23 November
  • Retain or assign a vehicle registration number - 23 November
It's important to note that if you don't receive your vehicle documents within six weeks of an application you will have to contact the DVLA.
Any chance of an update on this as i plan to de register a car and want to retain the reg number.
Tried finding it but couldn't.

Odd - someone on Motorhome Matters has just reported today, a 14 day turnaround on a C1 renewal - over 70. With the medical done by D4D
Hi, what's the steps/procedure for renewal of a CI licence when nearing 70? Do you get a medical done (D4D) before you apply through the DVLA or put your application in and wait til the DVLA ask you to get a medical? I'm 70 in May and will need a C1 as our van is over 3.5T. Thanks

You can apply three months before your birthday (not before) and it is best to do so within the first few weeks of this period so that you have at least 56 days left on your old license. You need the D2 and D4 forms from the DVLA. The D2 is the application and the D4 the medical report and both need to be submitted together.

Put "DVLA waiting times newspaper" into Google. I found several responses to that. (y)

Thanks but that does not tell me how long i would wait to get my retention cert back.

I know it was the opposite way round as I think you have to do yours by post? but when we changed our van the new owner V5 arrived within the week, put my number on on-line and new V5 with changed number came back within the week so two week turn round👍

Thanks RB but i think we maybe at slightly crossed ideas.
When i get home i will be selling one of my cars.
It has a private reg i want to retain to put on a another car when bought.
So to hold this private reg one has to obtain a Retention Cert. It's this cert i am wondering how long i would wait for once i de register the sold car.
Ta again.

Make sure you send a new photo if renewing your C1 entitlement. Although information on their site gives the impression that by submitting passport info they can use that photo,I have found to my cost you cant. I first sent mine off 21/06/2021 it was returned august asking for a new photo. Then found out in December a blackout I had in 2004 and had declared in 2018 with no reoccurrence and first renewal fine. Now they had decided to check with my doctor as of today no sign of my licence on their system. But I did the same process when renewing my wife’s licence using passport info was renewed ok??
a letter to Grant Shaps got a reply from dvla complaints saying my licence would now be treated as a priority but no sign so far!!

The DVLA post their own information here.

I transferred reg no on line, took only minutes. Retention certificate in the post two days later.
Edit. You can transfer the reg to another vehicle without waiting for the printed certificate.

Getting C1 licence renewed at 70 a very different story. Applied in July and still waiting. Had to have a new eye test and an echocardiogram. I have downsized the mh (collecting in a couple if days) to avoid this grief next time. B licence can be renewed online.

Great, thanks for the info Pausim (y)

If you can do it all online then the retention certificate arrives in the post a few days later. Mine did anyway 👍

Based on that I wonder if it’s worth sending my 70 yrs retention of C1 3 months earlier by the time it gets processed it will be at the correct time🤔
If the dates on the application and D4 predate the 3 months allowed they might reject it. The D4 medical report would perhaps be 6 months old by the time it was processed it and that might well be unacceptable too.

Yes can see a problem there I’ll just have to wait until 3rd May 🙄

I think it will help to get the application in before the 56 days point because then you will not need a new photo, which I suspect makes the processing of the application quicker.

Yes I am intending to send off at 90 days so need to book doctors4drivers in plenty of time, they have regular clinics at Amesbury just down the road😊

I have a personal theory that if your medical history is complicated it may be better to go to your GP, though it is a more costly route. I base my theory on human nature, guess work and one or two posts about medical delays. I did not encounter any of the expected delays despite a medical history that includes sleep apnoea and head and neck cancer. The human nature bit is if you had the job of deciding whether an application needs further health checks would you put more faith in a report made:
1) By a GP who has access to the applicants full medical history or
2) By a medic who does not have access to the medical records and has to rely on the applicant’s word about most of the items on the form.

Edit
p.s make sure you use a form of postage that gives you a dated copy of a signature of the application being received by the DVLA.

I’m pretty much ok as I only take a small tablet for high blood pressure😊 plus our GPs are not doing medicals for licences as they are busy🤔

Had my treadmill test today ,finally, involved 3 technicians, treadmill , ECG machine ,room etc at Wythenshaw cardio hospital section. The results are given to the cardiologist Dr and then on to the DVLA.
Original licence renewal request went in mid August, 2 lots of Treadmill appointments cancelled due to non payment of invoices by DVLA.Several phone calls to DVLA re the revised treadmill dates.
The test went ok but the technician wouldn't say if I had passed or not that was down to the Doc,but the test went "ok". Just have to wait the DVLA response and whether my licence with C1 is renewed for the next 3 years or 1 year..
Must be a costly exercise for the DVLA (taxpayer) if I only get a 1 year I shall get my MP involved as it's all just a waste of time, but that's probably part of the plan to wear drivers down

Everything is a waste of time if it affects us personally, if it’s someone else it’s a brilliant idea. Human nature

Just made my 1000th attempt to contact the dvla by phone. Have been trying for the last ten days set myself a target of 100 tries a day. First sent C1 renewal off 21/06/2021, had forms returned as they could not lift my photo from my passport.
(Though they did for my wife’) sent off again Aug 21. Then got a letter telling me they were writing to my GP to check on a black out I had in 2004, this was declared on my first C1 renewal Sep 2018. No reoccurrence or medication req. Told my application would be prioritised when info from GP receive. Letter sent by GP early Dec, stating no problems re driving.
still not on system?? Had the driver medical declared the blackout to them (not my GP as they no longer do it?) what is the point of paying for a medical report if they ignore it? I understand safety is paramount and am not trying to circumvent it.
