There may be 5000 employed, but how many actually work there !!Apparently, DVLA employ over 5000 directly at Swansea so losing 2% to covid shouldn't make a heap of difference.

But as most are working from home with few in the office surely there should be no problem as those with covid can still work from home & swop with non-sick ones.Apparently, DVLA employ over 5000 directly at Swansea so losing 2% to covid shouldn't make a heap of difference.
Any chance of an update on this as i plan to de register a car and want to retain the reg number.Post from the Liverpool Echo today.
These are the dates that DVLA are working on.
Don't shoot the messenger!!!

Hi, what's the steps/procedure for renewal of a CI licence when nearing 70? Do you get a medical done (D4D) before you apply through the DVLA or put your application in and wait til the DVLA ask you to get a medical? I'm 70 in May and will need a C1 as our van is over 3.5T. ThanksOdd - someone on Motorhome Matters has just reported today, a 14 day turnaround on a C1 renewal - over 70. With the medical done by D4D
You can apply three months before your birthday (not before) and it is best to do so within the first few weeks of this period so that you have at least 56 days left on your old license. You need the D2 and D4 forms from the DVLA. The D2 is the application and the D4 the medical report and both need to be submitted together.Hi, what's the steps/procedure for renewal of a CI licence when nearing 70? Buy a private (personalised) number plate, assign it or transfer it to a vehicle - renew or update your entitlement certificate.www.gov.uk
Put "DVLA waiting times newspaper" into Google. I found several responses to that.Any chance of an update on this as i plan to de register a car and want to retain the reg number.

Thanks RB but i think we maybe at slightly crossed ideas.I know it was the opposite way round as I think you have to do yours by post? but when we changed our van the new owner V5 arrived within the week, put my number on on-line and new V5 with changed number came back within the week so two week turn round![]()
Thanks RB but i think we maybe at slightly crossed ideas.
When i get home i will be selling one of my cars.
It has a private reg i want to retain to put on a another car when bought.
So to hold this private reg one has to obtain a Retention Cert. It's this cert i am wondering how long i would wait for once i de register the sold car.
Ta again.
The DVLA post their own information here. Thanks but that does not tell me how long i would wait to get my retention cert back.
Good info. Based on that i would wait about 3 weeks.
I transferred reg no on line, took only minutes. Retention certificate in the post two days later. Thanks but that does not tell me how long i would wait to get my retention cert back.
Great, thanks for the info PausimYou can apply three months before your birthday (not before) and it is best to do so within the first few weeks of this period so that you have at least 56 days left on your old license. If you can do it all online then the retention certificate arrives in the post a few days later. Mine did anywayThanks but that does not tell me how long i would wait to get my retention cert back.
Based on that I wonder if it’s worth sending my 70 yrs retention of C1 3 months earlier by the time it gets processed it will be at the correct time
If the dates on the application and D4 predate the 3 months allowed they might reject it. The D4 medical report would perhaps be 6 months old by the time it was processed it and that might well be unacceptable too.Based on that I wonder if it’s worth sending my 70 yrs retention of C1 3 months earlier by the time it gets processed it will be at the correct time![]()
Yes can see a problem there I’ll just have to wait until 3rd MayIf the dates on the application and D4 predate the 3 months allowed they might reject it. The D4 medical report would perhaps be 6 months old by the time it was processed it and that might well be unacceptable too.
I think it will help to get the application in before the 56 days point because then you will not need a new photo, which I suspect makes the processing of the application quicker.Yes can see a problem there I’ll just have to wait until 3rd May![]()
Yes I am intending to send off at 90 days so need to book doctors4drivers in plenty of time, they have regular clinics at Amesbury just down the roadI think it will help to get the application in before the 56 days point because then you will not need a new photo, which I suspect makes the processing of the application quicker.
I have a personal theory that if your medical history is complicated it may be better to go to your GP, though it is a more costly route. I base my theory on human nature, guess work and one or two posts about medical delays. I did not encounter any of the expected delays despite a medical history that includes sleep apnoea and head and neck cancer. The human nature bit is if you had the job of deciding whether an application needs further health checks would you put more faith in a report made:Yes I am intending to send off at 90 days so need to book doctors4drivers in plenty of time, they have regular clinics at Amesbury just down the road![]()
I’m pretty much ok as I only take a small tablet for high blood pressureI have a personal theory that if your medical history is complicated it may be better to go to your GP, though it is a more costly route. I did not encounter any of the expected delays despite a medical history that includes sleep apnoea and head and neck cancer. The human nature bit is if you had the job of deciding whether an application needs further health checks would you put more faith in a report made:
1) By a GP who has access to the applicants full medical history or
2) By a medic who does not have access to the medical records and has to rely on the applicant’s word about most of the items on the form.
