Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

Our first truck was a Volvo, Janie came back from the dealers one day the girls had Volvo baseball caps and she gave me a load of tee shirts fit genuine parts, it was nothing but bother after that, gave the shirts away and sold it, from then on we only had Scania. 😁
I definitely don't want any Fiat merchandise. :Eeek: Bob.

Genuine question but why do people in campers need to brush their teeth outside and spit toothpaste everywhere? It seems to be very common and I can't understand why they need an audience.

There's 3 French vans here and all 6 occupants are brushing there teeth outside ?

And one of the girls who's very pretty just did that thing where you put a finger on one nostril and blow the contents of the other on the ground ... 🤢🤮
That is extremely unhygienic and frankly selfish.

If she'd used a tissue she'd probably have thrown it on the ground anyway, so unselfishly she saved a bit of litter in the litter capital of the world 😂

Not to mention gross.

There was 3 vans together originally but one left earlier , 3 young grungy couples early 20's I think , they're noisy , look like they've not bathed this year lol but play decent music semi loudly .. they were out having beers and a fire till yon time last night.

Good luck to them they're not bothering anyone I guess but the girl doing the dragging the throat snorting then spitting it out or clearing her nostrils without a tissue is pretty vile I must say.

Even men doing it I find unpleasant but it's the first time I've encountered a girl doing it ...and so often.

There's a family of 7 here in an old merc vario 2 adults 2 teenagers and 3 younger kids and everytime she spits the mum nearly boaks 🤣🤣

Yes I saw that .... prices might be scary though

I wouldn't mind so much if I knew it was definitely the problem. But the usual way of diagnosing a master cylinder fault doesn't seem to work.

At the moment my engine hasn't been started up since yesterday when I parked after the brakes didn't work.

I pressed brakes with engine off ...pedal went to floor . Let it up and did the same second time. Third time it was firm and has stayed firm since . Put pressure on and keep it there and it doesn't move.

Now usually a failed internal seal in a master cylinder means it will always slowly go to the floor . But this doesn't.

It just behaves like there's air in the system.

But when driving like yesterday coming down that hill. I had a firm pedal it just wasn't stopping the van like it should. I was in 2nd gear and foot hard on brake and still moving.

The last time it did it was different...that time I had no pedal it just went to the floor.

I've just been under the van checking and I've definitely no leaks . The discs are also nice and clean now as I knew they would after doing a bit miles . Pads were renewed , calipers were freed , there's no brake binding I'm aware of , fluid was replaced so it's a process of elimination. I'm happy to replace the master cylinder if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg .... as it may or may not fix it and if it doesn't ill have to change other parts till I find the problem.

Hindsight is great but I wish I'd bought one in the UK.

Might be a pain getting one here. Or at least it might be very expensive
Is it not possibly a servo problem?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the reply before mine saying the same thing!

CLeaning teeth outside while wild camping is not really bad some people think it’s alright to pee and poo outside while wild camping
It isn't bad . I'm just curious why everyone seems to do it. Most of these vans will have a sink inside.

It was the snot blowing I thought was minging

Sooner or later Tam you’re going to have to spend some money and get the brakes sorted, wether that’s in moroc Spain or England the bend at the bottom of a hill all looks the same up close and if you survive it will cost a lot more….

I know you’ll say “yeah but I’m not chucking money at it until I find the exact problem “ but by then it may be too late…😏

Exactly you can't put a cost on safety.

Two things which really get you into trouble, steering problems and brake problems……

Yes I know I need it fixed garry but the mechanic I took it to last time didn't have a clue , and not many places can deal with the size. I can't afford to take it to a main garage and leave it with them while they investigate and guess at the problem. And unfortunately that's what they want you to do. There's very few garages big enough to look at the van thst can do so there and then . I have 4 dogs and it's my home.

I've still a list of Jobs to sort on the van, I had countless problems with the brakes on the last van too.

It's had the brakes fixed twice so far and still not working properly. The last van I was forever at the brakes . Everytime a professional goes near my vehicles I end up with more problems.

So get the master cylinder done, You've been told by jock it solved he's problem it's the only thing left to try .far more important then getting it sprayed but it's your choice.

Because they are animals and have no idea of living in society. French you say? doesn't surprise me.

It may even just be a case of the first guy who changed the fluid and bled the brakes never did it correctly, let's face it he never wanted to do the job as he stated straight away that the nipples were rusty on a 20 year old van .. he then damaged a sensor cable when hitting the van with a hammer .

And then told me the problem was the discs 🤔

I've no objection to spending money on the van if it fixes the problems. I do however object to paying money to cowboys that don't fix the problem or charge the earth which is what a main dealer would do.

I've a light electrical problem and a persistent lack of power problem at times too that I've still to fix

I thought at the time you were going for the wrong thing when you had the fluid changed, it's not usually the first thing you think of, and maybe he was right when he said it was something else, but didn't like to say as me saying stuff only makes you mad for some reason, isn't there any ordinary garage's there that would have a look at it, as in not main dealers as surely they have similar problems there and you could watch what they do.

If vehicle hasn't had brake fluid changed for long period it can cause corrosion problems in ABS pump this doesn't always show up with warning light , one such problem is sudden loss of pedal by going right to floor . I have come across this a few times , it is usually last thing you want to contemplate as they are not cheap.

By elimination you've now tested almost everything haven't you?

My previous motorhome was on a 2010 50c18 Iveco chassis. It remained quite underbraked for as long as I had it - just how it was.
