Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

Northernraider. I have highlighted this before on your Flair thread Tam, and will mention it once more, ie, your loss of turbo power is not necessarily related to the malfunctioning of your turbo waste gate. The slightest of leaks in the turbo boost pressure can cause the loss of power. Ours was experienced going uphill, and like you when trying to overtake trucks. It turned out to be a pinhole in the turbo boost hose..........only detectable by the diagnostic kit of the Iveco Bus Workshops in Blanes.

Although advised by phone by my mechanic pal back in the UK, I would never have found it myself. 🤷
Tighten up the jubilee clips on those boost hoses first, then check carefully for the tiniest of leaks under boost pressure.

Good luck,

Jock. :)

Hose was replaced already Jock.

And have you tightened up the hose clips since?
If it's not them leaking, or the wastegate malfunctioning, it's obviously something else, and my money is on it being something small/simple. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers,

Jock.

Easiest way to check the whole system for any type of leak is with a smoke machine.https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=vehicle+smoke+testing+machine

I need to try and free off my wastegate this morning as I'm getting loss off power and that red light again more frequently, often just as I've pulled out to overtake a truck or something so I think it's sticking ,hoping it's just that.
I also got that soft brake fade again yesterday as I approached a roundabout . I reckon that has to be a faulty master cylinder as I wasn't even on a hill and hadn't been using brakes a lot as usual there's no sign of a leak or anything the brakes just don't seem to work and the pedal goes slowly to floor. It hasn't done it in a while.

I'm also having real doubts about morroco , my last experience of Maroc was maybe 50/50 there were parts I loved but a lot I hated , wasn't overly keen on the morrocans themselves I felt I couldn't escape them or find peace anywhere. The stray dogs is upsetting, the waste is upsetting , and if I hadn't been travelling around with company I'd have left a lot sooner than I did , and I can see me being on my own a fair bit travelling round this time so I'm not sure. My main reason for going again truth be told is to have work done on the camper , staying out of shengen is the 2nd reason ....I'd be lying if I said I was going because I loved the country..... I don't, and this will probably be the last time I go.

Anyway I need to check this wastegate today and I might have to order a master cylinder too.

Don’t forget this that I’ve mentioned before Tam, vacuum sensor, not expensive but sorted my turbo issue out, was a pain to reach behind the wheel arch but fixed the problem.

Not necessarily that one but that’s what it looked like

The fault only happens occasionally the van was fine from when we originally sorted the red light issue till sometime in france when it gave one flash of the light on a motorway and then did it a few times over the following weeks. It was only in the last week that it did it a few times in a row and more frequent 2 days ago hence me lubricating it again this morning. I think the heat from the engine obviously dries it out overtime and it could probably do with a lubricant being applied as wd40 will just evaporate. If it was a hose etc it would do it all the time. I'm almost certain it's just the waste gate sticking and originally it was seized. After moving it this morning and spraying with wd40 it hasnt done it today on any hills . The hose clips are tight and the hose itself is fine the original hose had damage hence me replacing it but even then I'm fairly sure it wasn't causing the issue but the stuck wastegate was. The wastegate on my euramobil was forever sticking

Is there any heat resistance lubricant that would last longer….🤔

It’s all choice, Tam might behave like he is broke, but that is just a Scottish way of expressing you are careful with money which is fine if that’s what’s making you happy, which obviously isn’t the case on this occasion, as people share their lives on open forums other people then give their opinions, , so many people offer various thoughts, my experience is that you have to make your own happiness, it will not be delivered by others, postponing things you really would like to do till later in life is not working out for many, me and my gorgeous wife had to drastically change plans because of serious illness, we are only a few years older then Tam, so my advice to him would be trying to figuring out what makes him happy and then just do it, by all means have a safety net but going loaded into your grave will bring little joy, 🤷🏻‍♂️👍

Are you trying to say Tam is a Yorkshire Scotsman 😂😂😂
Theirs tight then theirs bloody tight 😂😂😂

Sadly, it’s also the highest rated place in Spain for suicide because of the wind.
That's interesting. Where I live at the top of a hill nearish the coast it can be really windy and this year has been particularly bad and I've really struggled with my mood this year.

Sorry to hear this 😢
Have you tried mindfulness?
If you can get the habit of it it's a very powerful weapon against all kinds of emotions & moods

Northernraider, Pippa is three and a half years old now and is finally starting to realise she shouldn’t pull.
When going out with the ball she is so excited she pulls until I can let her off to chase the ball.
The problem you have is a young dog trying to show the older ones she can keep up with the pack.
I don’t think there is a quick cure (there is but you wouldn’t do it) you have a pack there and you aren’t necessarily the leader!

In Munich and the Alpine region it is claimed that there is an increase in the suicide rate when the Foehn wind is blowing.
Similar feelings, but different weather circumstances, when we lived in Geneva. In winter it was always just an oppressive greyness. However, you could always just drive up the nearest hill (Saleve) and emerge into the sunshine above the clouds.

Yes though not formally using a program. I do lots of yoga, nature bathing and other things. My problem is my job and most of the hobbies I love are outdoor based so when the weather is a battle i struggle and it's been the worst 18 months on record for rain (and I feel wind also). Lots of others in my profession have had a very difficult year and I've heard of several giving up.

Surprised to hear this big yin as you know full well you'll meet lots of people on the road out there, this trip will be my 6th trip out and yes the Moroccans can be a pain in the arse but that's their culture the hustling & bustling and besides you don't like most nationalities when your touring around Europe anyway! Lol but every time I've been I've met all sorts from solo travellers both male & female, digital nomads, van lifers, hippys the list is endless and as Helen Ariel says if it gets too much pull into a campsite for a change of scenery for a day or 2 it won't kill you! 😂 We've had some great nights in sites with all sorts of nationalities also I'll be about, Garry & Cintia will be about plus there's probably numerous others from MHF out there but then you'll say "aye but I don't want to meet people"!
We can't win with you! Lol you don't like people but then say your concerned about being on your own!
Just go with a fresh outlook and enjoy yourself mate that's my advice, I've had some not so nice experiences out there, I think everyone who has visited has but I've also had just as bad in probably every other country I've visited there's no such thing as the perfect world, grab life by the balls & enjoy yourself!
T hink that’s a good pep talk to Tam. Hopes he reads, and inwardly digests, as my dad used to say. It’s a kick in the goodies, just rethink to go forward. Happy New Year to a new Tam outlook. 💗💕🫶👍

Tam knows I'm very fond of him and I believe he likes me too (which is an achievement on its own!) 😂
And I totally get that he gets down in the doldrums from time to time, every body does and its totally natural to get that way, even myself who to the outside world it looks like I have everything a person could wish for, which I probably do but I get down at times too but it's having the knowledge to get yourself back into the game that some people struggle with and I'm extremely lucky after studying Stoic philosophy and mindfulness it all clicks into place very quickly again for me, I've given the big man audio tapes and all sorts of advise but does he listen?.... 😂😂
I'm not talking behind his back here or like he's not in the room and know he'll see this and I've told him to his big beardy mush, he's a very complex character but he has a heart of gold and that's one of the reasons I hold the big fecker in high regard and would like to see him head back out to Morocco but if he doesn't go that's his decision and of course I'll respect that but I've always found its much better to regret the things that you did do rather than the things you didnt do.... 🙂
Here endeth the lesson.....

My mind is full enough at the moment and does not need filling more.

Anyway, what is 'mindfulness'?

Simple logistics that the Spanish put out there.
I'm not getting the connection , are people using the wind to commit suicide in interesting ways or are they claiming a connection between windy places and suicide numbers.

If the latter I'm curious because there are a lot of windy places in the world and I wouldn't have thought it would make people suicidal. Surely you'd just move somewhere less windy.

So Just smiffy came past today , sat outside for a bit and dogs were in the van , he left and Jackie Turned up , dogs all excited again .

As a result both the sheepskins on my front seats , the clean throw I just put on the sofa, the matt on the floor and my swivel seat in the back all pissed on by one or two excited dogs , I'm not sure who it was .

Honestly it's better when no one visits. It's less feckin work.

So I've now got 2 wet sheepskins to try and dry . Its bad enough that milo shits on the floor every single night now and has done for nearly 2 months but one or 2 have started peeing when they get excited .

I think I might just leave a couple in Morocco as I'm getting cheesed off with their behaviour

This is one of the many reasons I do not have dogs.
