What is The Greek Tourist Visa?

This visa is a special travel permit issued to citizens of non European Union countries, non-Schengen countries, or those from countries who are not on the visa waiver list. The tourist visa is also called a Schengen tourist visa because Greece is a member of the Schengen region and operates a similar immigration policy with other Schengen states.

This visa is not for those who are from the EU, Schengen states, US, and UK, as they are allowed to visit and stay in the country for up to 90 days without a visa.

I had a quick read. It's not necessary for stays up to and including 90 days, but if you want to stay longer a long stay visa can be applied for. It needs reading more carefully if anyone is interested in finding out if it would work.

Can I stay in Greece longer than 3 months?

… and purpose of your journey to Greece, you may apply for a short-term “Schengen visa” or a long-term “national visa” for a stay of longer than 90 days

We went to Marrakech for a fortnight in mid January staying in an all inclusive hotel in the Medina. We loved the winter sun, the souks and the historical buildings. Although bright and vibrant Jemaa el Finaa square left me uneasy with the monkeys and cobras, I wouldn't eat anything from the food stalls I valued not getting an upset stomach and the food at our hotel was of an excellent quality. Our day trip Essaouira was interesting and enjoyable but was an eyeopener in terms of the bleakness of the countryside, the poverty of the smaller towns, the poor roads and the sheer number of police checkpoints. It is not a highly developed country but it does rely on tourism as a major source of income. I'm fortunate that I don't need to leave Schengen and can travel freely but like Tam I'm not sure I would bring my van here. I have an aversion to hassle when I'm travelling and think Tam's experience has shown me that Morocco is rife with hassle and pita moments. I enjoy the haggling in the souks but I see it as a cultural experience along with a national pride as a Scot. I agree with Tam that his experiences and his opinions of Morocco are his and are therefor perfectly valid.

No pics today unfortunately it's been a day of fetching water , food supplies and driving.. did my supermarket shop in markane el jadida , had lunch then headed north through the absolute shambles of casablanca, doesn't matter which road you take through that hellhole it's a nightmare. Roads are terrible drivers are insane....was glad to get out the other side with no damage . I'm now parked up in a golf resort carpark in bouznicka between casablanca and Rabat..its not pretty but it is functional.

A bit more of coast to do before I head inland towards fez

Stocked up on more spices In the marjane.
Think I've enough now to do me a while

As we said ..

Religion

No other religion has forbidden pork.

It's purely because Muslims believe pigs to be dirty. The same with dogs.

But they're happy to hang their meat in the open covered in flies then eat it 🤣
Not quite though, is it. The leaning was more towards health, that they included it in the Koran just makes it more implicit to comply. But the original reason was purely health, the amount of trichinosis that was rife in that region many, many years ago (long before health and safety was invented) was the prime reason. Pigs do not sweat, and this is the main reason that undercooked pork could be infected and therefor dangerous for human consumption, so in hot countries trichinosis was a big problem. It is no longer the case as there are veterinary solutions and you can now eat pink pork at no risk of suffering the illness.

Aye 😉

Do you know how old the Quran is ?

And apparently never translated or altered.

Muslims won't wear pigskin boots or have anything to do with any part of a pig ... not just eat it.

My mums business partner hussain nearly fell out a window trying to avoid contact with a pair of boots I was wearing once lol.

My mum and him were partners in a leather shop but he would not stock pigskin under any circumstances.

Do you not drink alcohol Tam? I ask because if you drove after lunch, I imagine not. You see, I like a couple of glasses of wine with lunch and maybe a whisky (or two) afterwards, and would not dream of driving, and never do 😀 🍷🍷🥃. I'm not criticising here, just curious.

I never drink when I'm going to be driving.

And when I do its never more than 2 or 3 beers or a couple of glasses of wine . Haven't drank whiskey since my mid 30's ...

The Motorway is normally fairly good there. We're not fans of casablanca either.

If they do not sweat then they breath very moist air because when we had to fly them over the Channel to France we had to step across the pens to get to the cockpit ladder, which was dripping with slimy condensation so that we had to wear gloves.

We got paid an extra 59p per hour ;dirty money' which was calculated on airborne time so was for about 18 mins. - that is how I got rich!

Quite a few years now - 1.400 or so, as is the declaration that pork was no good. It was Muhammad who declared pork as unclean because god had not realised that the different temperatures affected the meat, apparently (I was not there, so cannot back this up).

Yes, because they take it so bloody literally, much like extreme Catholics etc. take their own bibles or whatever to be the only truth. I despair at all this relying on religion for everything.

Are you trying to spice up your life :)
Love spicy food so makes sense to stockpile a bit while I'm here. Will get another few packs just before I leave for good measure

I absolutely love pigs. There used to be a pig farm near us, one once stuck it's head over the fence as we were passing and my dog jumped in the air in shock. But I think they are so cute.
Cute and tasty .

Yea the same here, love pigs and the smell. As a kid I used to see pig farms everywhere but now you don’t see very many.

Lots of pig farms in Norfolk. My father had a smallholding on which he had up to 200 pigs so I grew up with pigs about. Often in the winter he would bring a baby pig (runt?) home and it would sleep in a shoe box on the hearth in front of the fire. It would be just like a pet (very clean) for a while then back to the sties and later the slaughter house. Farm life. I remember once when I was tending the pigs and one escaped, I threw myself down and managed to get hold of its rear legs. Problem was that we were on a large frozen puddle and the pig couldn’t get traction with its front trotters on the ice and I was the same with my knees. We were like this for many minutes - can’t remember who won.

The Polynesians live in a hot climate and like a bit of pork, but haven't been inflicted by autocratic religions to tell them otherwise ?
I wonder if they've managed the disease issues from eating pork ?
