Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

You can in carrefour. Morocco continues to evolve, the tolerant face of islam. Words of the king apparently :giggle:
Please remember that the prohibition of pork meat was nothing to do with religion, rather it was a health concern. Look it up, it will surprise you.

Not a shit hole where youve been these last days, surely?? It’s looked perfect wild camping - exactly what I hope to see from you!
Beautiful photos - as usual-Thank you!
This spot has been great .

But there's not been many like it..
Tafraoute is nice but that's about the only place other than here I've enjoyed on this trip.

.. there's a few spots on the road back I went to last time that were OK so I plan to go there again ..I've about 10/11 days left before I'm back in Spain. I'll be glad to get back there and get this van clean inside and out.

It's absolutely about religion in Muslim countries, can't buy it in Turkey either

Here you go you unclean sinners, I looked it up for you 😂

Eating pork is forbidden in Islam because Allah Ta'ala has declared it impure and harmful to health. In the Holy Qur'an, Allah has ordered to avoid it so that man remains spiritually and physically pure. Eating pork is also harmful to our body, and Islam teaches us to protect our body and health.

As we said ..

Religion

No other religion has forbidden pork.

It's purely because Muslims believe pigs to be dirty. The same with dogs.

But they're happy to hang their meat in the open covered in flies then eat it 🤣

Judaism prohibits the consumption of pork amongst other foodstuffs.

I've not been to any Jewish countries so I wouldn't know .

In my opinion yes it's a shithole..... but it seems from people who come here I'm in the minority.
Each to their own opinion but I have to agree they you are very much in the minority compared to everyone I’ve met in 4 visits to Morocco.
But for me it has nothing I can't get better elsewhere
Schengen days which is why you’re here. The same reason for many of us. Turkey maybe an alternative but as you’ve stated earlier it’s further away.
It's strange because no one on here would voluntarily stay in a rundown old council estate in the UK, or a campsite with terrible toilets, no grass , dodgy electrics etc ....but they'll do it here
I think you’ll find we are all staying in well specified and equipped motorhomes. I also like to think in our small way we are adding to the local economy and encouraging more and better facilities for motor homers to benefit from in future years.
And you wouldn't go eat in a restaurant that was filthy either but they do here
I think you are describing what happens in all developing countries either here in Morocco or in India, SE Asia etc, etc. so for many of us this is not anything new. I accept we all have different hygiene standards!!! I should also add that it is equally possible to eat in European standard restaurants throughout Morocco should you wish but it comes at European prices (I will add that I didn’t visit their kitchens!!). PS:Alcohol is served in these restaurants.
Under the guise " its an adventure
I think it’s fair to say compared to any trips in Europe it is much more of an adventure. It’s equally fair to say that it’s less of an adventure than it was 10/20 years ago.

I thought it worth a few words to offer a counter view to your own for the benefit of others who may be contemplating a visit to Morocco.

PS: Mrs B continually says to me don’t encourage any more people to visit Morocco as it’s getting too busy. So once again I’m forced to say ignore everything I’ve just said!!🤣🤣

I'm continually amused and surprised why everyone feels the need to suppress MY opinion of this country by adding there own 🤷‍♂️

All I can say is the people who follow and have followed my threads for the last 7 years knows I simply tell it as I find it .....I travel different from most... therefore my experiences of places are often different than others but they are MY experiences. There's various other threads on here covering Morocco which will give people the more glossed over , tourist magazine review of the country which many follow ...so there's really no need to counter anything I say on mine as I'm sure they will make up their own minds about it.

I've never been one to sugar-coat any country I've visited , I tell it how it is in everyone of them.

Shengen time is for me the one and only benefit of coming here .. but not at the expense of enjoying it .

If you use campsites most of the time it will be cheaper to come here than be in Spain etc.

If like me you wildcamp every night then it isn't cheaper.

The campsites are often worse than most of the wildspots I stay on in other countries.

Eating out is no cheaper than Spain depending where and when you eat .

It lacks any history worth visiting or any diversity , one mosque looks much like the other.

Youngsters come here to surf ...that's the appeal
Older folk I'm not entirely sure what they come for bar shengen time and sun

I don't see any adventure 🤷‍♂️ maybe south Africa would be an adventure but there's nothing here I'd call adventure.

But it certainly takes its toll on any good vehicle ....it will take weeks to clean this van and if there hasn't been longterm damage done to mechanics I'll be surprised.

As I said it simply isn't worth it for me , I'll explore other options when travelling to Spain and the years in between when I do Greece Turkey is a far better option .

I gave it 2 chances like I do everywhere . I wasn't keen last time. This time I lost all inclination or desire to explore half of it within a week of being here.

I think India is also not for you Tam:(
Yes I decided that a long time ago ... my sister has been I saw the photos lol

No thanks

There are Asian countries I'd have loved to visit because of the history ....China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia to name a few.. but not in a motorhome and ill likely never do it now as I have the dogs. But if it were not for shengen and the 90 day limits I'd be more than content in Europe 6 months of the year in countries I enjoy and love.

There's only so many photos of beaches I can take.

And there's not much else to take pics of .

If you want food pics follow Mr porky etc ....

I like old buildings, architecture. Scenery , places my dogs can run free, nice quiet wildspots etc

That's not Morocco

I agree with you Tam. It's quite warm here too, but it would mean a ferry, with the corresponding costs. And of course, it's no help to you considering the Schengen rules.
Yes the canaries I love ....I actually ended up fulltime in a van because on one of my many holidays to gran canaria I was offered a job there so I went home sold up everything and resigned and bought a camper to drive to the canaries ....2 months in I was informed the place I'd been offered a job had went out of business ....and so it began

But the ferry from cadiz to gran canaria would have taken 40 hours and cost nearly £1k at that time.

The Austrian couple and the geordie couple I travelled around maroc with last time took their vans there for a few months though and did all the islands I believe.

I love gran canaria but I don't think I'd take the motorhome there now .. too far and too expensive for limited time

Steady Tiger I’ll say no more.

No offence meant its just over the last month or so I had several people also travelling in Morocco claim that the rubbish I see , the poor condition animals I see. Basically any negative thing I saw I imagined or somehow exaggerated, a few even suggested I'm bored enough to lie about it. It wears you down after a while especially as I have frequently stated that it is my opinion of the country based on what I've observed and other people I've met and travelled here with both last time and this time. I've also been told I only see the negatives. I don't think that's true ....I've stated the places I've enjoyed, the things I've seen that I liked etc ... just for me the negatives far outweigh the positives here.

Ask me about the peloponnese or Spain, even Germany Turkey Montenegro Albania etc etc and there will be various recollections .. not all positive and not all negative.

It's nowt personal 👍

If you think its a bit raw now Tam you should have seen it in 2013 when we first came over, it was much more chaotic, much dirtier and yes much more of an adventure. But we keep coming back and are currently having the best trip yet, weather has been fabulous, roads have improved yet again, and having the off road buggy has really added imensely to the fun.

We also find the rubbish depressing, especially when having a conversation with intelligent people who have come to a nice spot to have some relaxation and then trash it!

Morocco has its ups and downs, but for us it remains the best place to spend the winter in our motorhome.

Yes it definitely seems a marmite country as its been said. I'm just not keen I personally feel I'm here through force not choice which isn't the best start to be fair. If not for shengen I'd not be here. The buggy does look fun though.

Tam, do you know anything about a Greek visa? I've just been reading a vanlifers post who's been spending winter out of the UK. When asked how he was dealing with the 90 days, he said he'd been able to do so because he had a Greek visa. It may be worth you looking into that for future winter trips? I know nothing about Greece, sorry, and it might not be possible without an address etc, but ...
