Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

still not completely clear how “brakes are fine unless I brake constantly on hills” results, in the first instance, in a master cylinder diagnosis.
When holding brakes on for a long time, ie decending hills, fluid seeps past the seals. If braking in traffic, to slow down, the seals will cope. Typical worn master cylinder situation.

You could have two identical stunning pieces of Welsh slate in there tam, they would look OK but will not stop you under pressure, I'm telling you, your current pads are why you have not good braking
Poor quality pads look OK, and in most applications they may sufficiently slow the vehicle, but your at 4.5+t, not a banger old empty transit.

I don't believe its the pads 🤷‍♂️ I'm not even convinced the pads have got that hot as I've seen pads that have been roasted many times and these are as good as the day I fitted them.

I have a second set of pads with me but are the same brand. They aren't cheap shitty pads but a reputable brand. They're also better than any brand of pad I could hope to pick up here in morroco.

The discs could do with replacement, the calipers could be better but are doing their job . I don't believe anything I found today is the cause of my braking issue.

I did notice a lot of strange noisies coming from my servo and master cylinder today when pressing pedal down by hand to push pistons out...a lot of squeaks and pops you can't hear when driving it. I've also yet to dismantle and check the rear brakes again . But if it isn't the master cylinder then it's something else .

My last iveco that I had continous brake issues with you could clearly see when the front brakes had overheated and roasted the pads. They were more brown than black in the end and very shiny .

Those noises could be air/seal/rust on piston, almost amything. Get the master fitted and new fluid mate as i dont think it was done well then you have a clean starting point. Rear hight gompensater could be next to free off.

I was going to suggest a problem with the servo but you've had so many other theories.
You said once the pedal was hard but no real braking. You've probably tried braking vehicles with engine off - same result.
My old Magnette has no servo - it doesn't stop, just slows, scary after driving a modern vehicle.
........Planning to fit a servo...

One of the guys made a start sanding the bumpers etc ... then he disappeared lol. But that's typical.. they make a start in case you leave 🤣 . Meanwhile after checking out the front brakes I set about stripping off lights , wipers and mirrors etc .

I would change the fluid first because that is the easier job. Also if one changes two elemrnts at once and it works you will never know which was at fault.

That's extremely cheap, I now understand why you went so far to get it done. But, what will the quality be like? I know it's racist and unfair, but we have a saying in the Canaries - 'never trust a moro'
It will be very good, we went on a recommendation, and were very happy with what we paid, and the work done.

Put it this way there's a Concorde, and a big frankia here getting paintwork done and several other vans and motorhomes that are at most 4/5 years old. So if it's good enough for them I expect it to be a good job. There's one other brit here I found today having a full respray done on a burstner tag axle . The rest are French and German mostly.

Did they come back and do any more work?
Not today , bit of sanding and removed grey decal from drivers door . It doesn't require a great deal of preparation to be honest there's no damage or cracks etc to fix its just a case of sand mask n paint.

Speaking of repairs Tam, you should ask them boys that's doing your work who they use as their courier for stuff and we'll see if I can get this brake cylinder down to you within a day or 2 instead of you having to wait around for me to appear which could be feck knows how long Tafraoute would be close to 1000km from Tangier Med
So that's your mission for today lol find out who they use and I can get it sent down as soon as I get off the boat, I know FedEx, DHL & others operate in Morocco so let me know what's happening 😉

God that'll be an interesting conversation lol. It took one boy nearly 15 minutes and several attempts on Google translate just to ask me if I had any wd40 yesterday.

Ye cannae send my cheese and coffee by courier though so I gotta see you at somepoint chief .

I'm not having these guys fit it , it looks to be mostly bodywork they're doing . I think I'd be getting somewhere more mechanical to sort that out . I mean if you ask these guys to do something they'll have a go for sure but I. Not keen on putting my life in the hands of someone blagging it

Wot no VAT🤣🤣🤣
That's why everything is cash in this country I reckon there must be very little tax paid on anything as it would be very hard to prove I'd imagine.

They're wanting a 2000 dh advance today to buy the materials . I think this is the norm but I'm gonna ask the other brit if he did it before I do lol.

I've tried striking up conversations with a few of the Germans especially the old fella with the old setra but not coming to much .... not very chatty ☹️

I think this is why I've become more and more unsociable because since after covid I've found many don't wanna chat unless it's their own wee crowd.

Might be a language barrier thing I dunno ....but most here seem to be 2 or 3 vans travelling together.

One pair has matching paint jobs, a big overlander truck and a merc sprinter both painted sand colour on top and black below ...in raptor style paint.
