You seem to be arguing that residents are not entitled to the views but we in our motorhomes are!Same as the residents along the nc500 etc , times change, if you enjoyed a view for years unblemished then count yourself lucky as you're not entitled to it.
Those motorhomes aren't parked there for the view they're parked because its free and easy parking. You seem to be arguing that residents are not entitled to the views but we in our motorhomes are!
Take the sea views away from these declining coastal towns and you just make matters worse. I prefer the more balanced approach of Gromett of finding a solution that leaves room for motorhomes but keeps it under some control. Yes there is some very poor newspaper reporting about motorhomes and yes you can’t buy a permanent view but if we don’t have some sympathy for residents the local authority will simply ban us altogether. We don’t get to vote in local elections but residents do.
Would anyone visit Morecambe if it didn’t have a sea view? Those motorhomes aren't parked there for the view they're parked because its free and easy parking.
I certainly wouldn't pay £10 to park there . I would just park in a side street with no charge.
The UK is so backward with its approach and the reason for that is its citizens are some of the weakest easiest controlled in Europe. Everyone just accepts the pisspoor state of the place.
Most likely .. as most don't go for the view . They go for the beach, the bars etc etc . Its hardly the hanging gardens of babylon.Would anyone visit Morecambe if it didn’t have a sea view?
We took the grandkids to a Morecambe caravan park a few weeks ago, for a couple of nights. Have to say Morecambe looked worse than it did on my last visit there twenty years ago. And that’s no mean feat. The sea view however is outstanding and there’s great beaches as well. Morcambe is of course getting the Eden Project of the North in the next few years, I would imagine this would provide a huge benefit to the town and perhaps limit the accessibility to the sea front for motorhomes anyway. Then of course the locals will moan that they can’t see the sea for the big dome.Would anyone visit Morecambe if it didn’t have a sea view?

I've been to Morecombe many times but not in the last 10-15 years. I don't remember it being very pretty .
That's a very poor argument Tam, it would be much easier to park out of town on a layby somewhere. Those motorhomes aren't parked there for the view they're parked because its free and easy parking.

FreeI have no idea why all the motorhomes are even there. Its an awful place. Why would you stay there? We called in to get some LPG last month on the way back to the ferry (Morrisons). Motorhomes everywhere. Parked everywhere.
Its not pretty. The pubs and bars are horrendously rough. Its so run down. Everything boarded up. Yet motorhomes are there in their droves. Someone must be able to explain this.
It's simple. Because the UK is so anti motorhome it's increasingly difficult to find free parkups. And the UK councils etc don't seem to be able to grasp that .I have no idea why all the motorhomes are even there. Its an awful place. Why would you stay there? And they will just move the problem elsewhere. That's a very poor argument Tam, it would be much easier to park out of town on a layby somewhere.
As you say, if you had to pay, you would park down a side street.
Of course they are parked there for the view, just like the homeowners, who have paid a premium over the cost of similar town homes, to have that view but the Motorhomers want it for free!
Little wonder, some other coastal resorts ban parking for MH's. It's only a matter of time before it happens there.
Personally I wouldn't park there , but the ones who are probably want to be close to the town for a reason. Bars restaurants shops etc .That's a very poor argument Tam, it would be much easier to park out of town on a layby somewhere.

I pay for local roads in my Council Tax and for water and sewage in my Water Bill. I assume you expect to use these facilities for nothing, charging for parking seems a fair way of getting a contribution from those passing through an area. I just want to have somewhere to park my van when I visit an area and don’t mind paying if it stops height barriers and outright bans. Perhaps those who expect something for nothing are spoiling it for the wider motorhome community as well as for residents? And yes I do want the view for free I make no denial of it. I'm not of the mindset that I have to somehow grease the palm of society to survive. One of the reasons I'm fulltime in a van is because its a cheaper way to live.
That's the bit I don't get. There are very few of these and you wouldn't go into the pubs without an armed guard. I don't know of any restaurants apart from the Toby Carvery (which is out of town)Bars restaurants shops etc .
Have you been to Hawick (Scottish Borders)? They insist on having a charge in place for any motorhome parking they create .
I paid those for nearly 30 years. I've paid enough as far as I'm concerned. I've paid for far more services than I've ever used in my lifetime and many services that we no longer get that the older generation did. The younger generation are going to get an even more raw deal.I pay for local roads in my Council Tax and for water and sewage in my Water Bill. As I said I've not been in morecambe over 10 years and probably closer to 15 so I was just guessing .... from memory it doesn't have a great view so maybe it is simply because it's free. That's the bit I don't get. So it can only be for the view or simply somewhere to freeload where no one harasses you.
I am not shocked at your views, you have expressed them on a number of occasions, so we know pretty much how you feel about the subject, however, I am shocked you do not remember Morecambe having the most fantastic views across the bay to the Lake DistrictAs I said I've not been in morecambe over 10 years and probably closer to 15 so I was just guessing .... from memory it doesn't have a great view so maybe it is simply because it's free.
Which should tell the councils something.
Create free parking places and you will move the problem.
Personally I'm not in to paying to park in a carpark that would normally be empty overnight just because I'm a motorhome and not a car.
Maybe I've just seen a lot of views and didn't find it very memorable or interesting. There are some lovely parts of the UK.. but morecambe, Blackpool etc just isn't one of them .I am not shocked at your views, you have expressed them on a number of occasions, so we know pretty much how you feel about the subject, however, I am shocked you do not remember Morecambe having the most fantastic views across the bay to the Lake District
I doubt that very much. In your sums did you include paying for all of doctors you have seen so far, and the NHS costs/social care costs you WILL use in the future? Did you also include the costs for the armed services for your lifetime (you do get a benefit from this, avoiding being bombed out of your motorhome)? Did you include all of your teachers' salaries?I paid those for nearly 30 years. I've paid enough as far as I'm concerned. I've paid for far more services than I've ever used in my lifetime
I've not seen a doctor in about 3 years , I resent paying for armed forces as we need to keep our nose out of other countries business and sort our own shit out.I doubt that very much. Sponging/scrounging/taking off others, not a very positive/charitable/Christian/communist/socialist/nice approach to life.I . . . will continue to take out of the system what i can and make sure I leave this world having got my moneys worth.
Yes thankfullySponging/scrounging/taking off others, not a very positive/charitable/Christian/communist/socialist/nice approach to life.
Just wondering, if you want to stay out of the UK full time, could you not apply for citizenship elsewhere?I paid those for nearly 30 years. I've paid enough as far as I'm concerned. I've paid for far more services than I've ever used in my lifetime and many services that we no longer get that the older generation did. I'm now of the mindset if they ban it one place I'll just go somewhere else .. eventually they will have to ban motorhomes from being on the roads at all because there will always be somewhere to park. I stay out the UK as much as I possibly can . If it wasn't for lemmings in 2016 I'd be out of it for good.
Never been to Hawick, as it has a Seaview, is it always full?Have you been to Hawick (Scottish Borders)?
Yes the aire is a section of a car park. There is water and waste facilities, it's near supermarkets and not far from the High Street and restaurants plus it is FREE.
It's about as far from the sea as you can get but there are river walks!! A local group (Scocha) wrote a Hawick Sea Shanty which is brilliant. I tried to find it on Youtube but couldn't.Never been to Hawick, as it has a Seaview, is it always full?
