DIY through the roof WiFi in pictures

Vertical aerial.jpg
I have one of these, copied from an earlier post but the same as ours.
I wondered if the pole would come out to do what you have done except the hole is there, we dont use the AERIAL

That's not posted by me and nothing to do with my install so I cannot help you with your question.

EDIT oh yes I see your point. Yes the item I made is the same 36mm diameter so will fit your roof grommet

ok, thanks anyway, it wasn't posted by you, I copied it to show you what ours was like.

That was mine, it involves cutting off the RJ45 plug and fitting a new one once the cable is inside the van. We still use the TV aeriel, but if you don't then Andy's method is probably a lot simpler.

BTW if anyone uses the Motorhome WiFi antenna as I have, according to Adam it isn't meant to be outdoors permanantly. Mine has a liberal appication of silicone on all joins and seals, including tha RJ45 inlet.

I have the iBoost as you see in the photo. I have ordered the mount to drill hole in roof ( already done in photo ) all I have to do is get the tubing ordered and I will start the fitting ( my photo's of install will follow.

Ah, I see, I need to change my username to Technophobe100 :D :D

I need to find a source of info on this that I can wrap the brain cell around.

Hmm, Seems like Andy has the very last one on the planet, I've searched for something similar, and only found some very inferior looking stuff.

Ho Hum, I need to find a solution, preferably cheap, shame I'm not into electronics, I'd make one and pop it into a IP67 or better box.

Interesting (y) Like that idea, but are we saying that there isn't currently a similarish unit on the market?

You can use any unit that has a compatible hub.
The panel antenna that I use is no longer available new.

I'm going to mount it like yours on the outside through the roof.

If you do, remember: ....

So much time and so little to do.
Today I fitted a Yale wireless security system, did the dishes, made the bed and finished my spare mast/panel

I have one of these too. Are you in a position to compare with the latest Antenna sold by Adam ? I'm thinking of upgrading but do not see the point unless the improvement is significant.
I may be trialling a new offering from Adam in the near future (y)

I know you have the tube ;) how's it coming on?

Hi Andy
We've got the same alarm system, works well, if you haven't already got them we can highly recommend the key fobs for this system, saves having to set/unset using the main box.

I got a remote keypad , arrived today.
I got the alarm for £216 delivered (Amazon), over £300 at Screwfix
EDIT my old wired alarm gave 21 yrs service, not worth fixing given modern technology

Andy, done nothing yet as had to sort family out so MH has taken back seat for now and need to get end caps for the tube. Cannot thank you enough for helping me out by posting the tube. I'm sure we will cross at some MHF meet and I will get the beers in.

I believe I have found a strong advantage with my panel antenna. Here at Ferry meadows CC I've had a reasonably good share of site wifi and it has been average to slow BUT! now it is absolutely pi**ing down following some snow and whilst everyone else has a weaker connection I am getting a BIGGER share of the bandwidth and it is now REALLY FAST :xrofl:
That's my theory

Every post is now lightning fast including this edit!

Update:
Thanks to Andy for posting the tube to me I have now this afternoon made a start to fitting my "through the roof" wifi system. I will update over the next few days, but here are some pictures:

I have the same one, (earlier one pictured) its neither robust or waterproof but works well.. just open Heki skylight and pop it on roof.

The whole idea is not to have to open skylights or climb over seats to get the thing outside and cable trailing across things. The one I have is fully sealed by me so waterproof and as far as robust I don't think it will be a problem.

Don't we know it John :xThumb:
I'm nice n cosy inside in all weathers while my little buddy sits out there doing all the work :xgrin: No open skylights! no going outside

Update2:
Photo's below of finished external wifi. I have not tested it fully as parked up in garage, however seeing about 6 more signals when fully extended. Total cost for parts about 37 quid ( thank you again Andy ) and total time to complete about 90 minutes.

The worrying bit drilling the hole...........
IMG_3183.JPG

Was surprised how easy it was to cut through......

And from inside cupboard

Now the sticky stuff

And screwed on inside the cupboard

View of post extended - the yellow arrow is to show wifi is facing forward for travel

View from outside nested position for travel.

And extended to full height, however I don't think I will need to extend it fully most of the time.

Reach the limit of up loading pictures so Part 3 to follow.

Now we have no ware, cables or anything showing dangling across seats, windows or coming through doors of windows. Wife is so please.........

I would like to thank Andy for his idea.
