DIY through the roof WiFi in pictures

I'd go to £25 if I'm collecting or £30 if you're dropping it off?
Ok £25 to collect. I'll be around tomorrow morning or I can leave it at my parents if tomorrow morning not convenient, let me know and I'll pm you details.

Yup great (y) I'll collect straight after rush hour as we're going off for the weekend.

In all the time I've come to Hebden Bridge CC I've never managed free internet UNTIL NOW ! :D
I used all my monthly allowance last weekend :( but not anymore (y)

I already have that, haven't you seen my roof :p

In line with my continuous improvement methodology (y)
My MKII is prepared in a silver livery with a longer pole and now just awaits a 1.8 metre USB cable instead of the 5 metre. The enclosure is now solvent welded to the pole to negate the need for industrial looking cable ties.
Having experimented last week with expanding foam this will be injected after cable installation.

I have one of these too. Are you in a position to compare with the latest Antenna sold by Adam ? I'm thinking of upgrading but do not see the point unless the improvement is significant.

I doubt there is any difference. To me the new ones are a result of ours being discontinued rather than superseded

I'm now parked right under a Vodafone mast (not relevant) on a CL "The old packing station" This is the fourth location on the trot that I have found a useable FON connection. The additional height without obstacles is certainly the way to go. Currently have a 39mbs BT Fon with three devices in use

Could you not mount a dummy TV camera on top of the aerial, then when you swivel it round looking for a wifi signal then the others on the campsite near you will think your the cops undercover and the bad guys will keep well away from your van.

Or the top of a periscope, then you could tell people that you have a MH-Uboat hybrid.
That's what I have done, with the added benefit that I can angle the antenna up or down, as well as rotate.

Unit is fully painted now but it is raining so outside pics later.
I fitted a 36mm elbow secured with 1 m4 tapped screw.. The elbow coincides with the direction the panel is facing. It also prevents pushing it up too far.

Just before dark here at Beechwood Grange CC, finally stopped raining
The white sleeve is a neatly cut piece of 40mm OD waste pipe, also a perfect fit over 36mm mast. Makes a nice tight closure when mast is stowed.

Andy, thanks for link. I have ordered parts and when they arrive will post photo's here of my iBoost setup. If mine looks as tidy as yours I will be a happy teddy.

I look forwards to your pictures. Imitation is the best form of flattery and don't be shy of any improvements (y)

Looks like another interesting project Andy, is there an decent alternative for the outside part, possibly from Taiwan or wherever?

I wonder if Broken Link Removed would be any good, Sikaflexed to the roof.

Or Broken Link Removedto wind up someone with a small todger

so does the existing pole pull out easy please?

Yes Kev the wifi hub that allows all devices within range to share a successful connection requires a specific USB antenna. If however you use a different hub then the world is your Oyster. The point of the thread was to illustrate how to put it through the roof, the equipment used is not being considered.
