Disgruntled CAMC Warden Joining Here!

The only experience we've had with pods was last month in Devon. Normally a couple of times a year our kids and grandkids go to a campsite in their tents and we join them in our Mh. This year tents have not been an option because of Covid and not having their own facilities. So they hired a couple of pods instead. Because of the need for a deep clean they couldn't get their keys til 3.30pm and had to be out by 9.15am so basically they lost their first day of 4 (and they're NOT cheap).
I can't imagine the club site staff doing this extra work, especially if they have more than 2 or 3 pods, something would have to give, grass cutting, hedge trimming, toilet cleaning or 101 jobs they have to do. Wouldn't do much for staff retention 🤪

I was wondering about the CAMC's introduction of pods (and perhaps lodges) etc. Apart from a way to make use of that awkward very small pitch in the corner, the only justification that I find acceptable is to provide separate accommodation for family and friends of Members who want to join them but don't have a caravan or MH. Otherwise, it doesn't fit my expectations of the Club. If I wanted to stay at somewhere like Haven with rows of statics and a Clubhouse, that's where I would go and wouldn't bother with the CAMC. It feels like the direction of travel of the Club will become less touring-friendly.
I presume the management at the CMC believe this to be a move forward and l understand the merits of it assisting members to have friends/family stay over, however, the same management changed the name of the club from CC to CMC because of the growth of MH members and yet they will not even consider providing Motorhome pitches that offer a limited stay over and would cost a fraction of the cost of a single Pod.
Will it one day become the CMC&P club……….the club is loosing direction…………..The business model needs a complete overhaul in order to fit the growth of modern day travel and need. Just saying.

I find it hard to believe any survey of members who regularly use the club sites would suggest a demand for pods and lodges. To be cost effective they must be expecting to attract those who do not embrace the “camping” ethos. These guests will probably have a very different set of expectations during their holiday. I can see a new set of issues for the wardens. In France many sites have turned over a large number of pitches to Mobil homes and the whole atmosphere changes. I hope the CAMC limits this development, otherwise I for one will seriously consider whether I retain my membershi.
Couldn't agree more, if I wanted to be at Butlins I'd book there. It's all about money.... they can charge a fortune for the pods whereas a pitch for a caravan or motorhome is relatively cheap. The club don't give a stuff about it's members and if every site ends up with pods it will become even more difficult to get a pitch. There has been no consultation with us that pay their wages (the management that make these decisions I'm talking about) and I will also be considering whether or not to stay if things continue as they are

I have to say CAMC wardens can be polite and professional I had not realised that on a non awning pitch some sites require you to wind an sun canopy in at night and you should not use rain/sun blockers on the sides as this constitutes an awning.

I had a portable freezer put the sun canopy out along with an end and a small side rain blocker. Around lunchtime the warden comes over and explains the rules he also said he was going to turn a blind eye to our set up but unfortunately he had 3 complaints from members ! So that left him in the unenviable position of asking us to take the sides down but if we would like to move to another ‘with awning’ pitch he would be happy and just let him know the new pitch number. 10/10 to that warden

I suspect people have more positive stories about wardens than negative ones

As for the whinging members we actually had a nicer pitch and would thank them for whinging and feel sorry for their angst at a member breaking a rule

This in my opinion is as good a reason as any to dislike staying on Caravan Site! You are being watched and observed constantly. You know you are being observed wether you like it or not and the observation is followed by criticism and if you step out of line a report goes in from the Stasi brigade.

I would balance that with the security I feel on a CAMC site along with the knowledge that someone will come and tell the neighbours to turn the music down/stop the kids kicking a ball up my van/stop their dog crapping on my pitch.
That’s what I pay a premium for 😀

I might be cynical but I would suspect that it was a white lie that allowed the warden to politely tell you you were breaking the rules.
If they allow you to break the rules then they have less clout to enforce the rules when absolutely necessary.

I can understand your situation but for myself l am well able to do this myself.

You should have voiced this to Coolcats as it was his post l was commenting on although l do agree with you, however,we are constantly being observed.

Well, the OP has not been on since 4th September. :restmycase:

indeed there was one MoHo observing us (possibly with glee) until they realised we had moved to a nicer part of the site away from the road thanks to their whinging. It takes all sorts in life I guess all I know is it was no hassle to move and the Warden was polite and respectful and we kept our Freezer going which enabled us to have a non-contact fortnight with shopping etc.

So, I have just flipped through the October CAMC magazine on line - cant see anything about huge revelations about new booking systems etc.
The CAMC forum does have a couple of wardens that contribute from time to time, who do seem to suggest that "something is in the air". Maybe all will be revealed at the AGM!!

Yes it does Mention it.

It also has a 2 page roundup of online improvements. After reading that I tried to download the updated UK Sites app from the google play store. All I get is "pending". Anyone else have this problem?

The OP 's not been seen since the 4th of this month. Do you think the CMHC illuminati have taken a "hit" out on him ?
I reckon the body will be under that big pile of grass clippings, just behind the shower block !
The shallow grave is marked with a little white post

Oldwarden last seen 4th September.
Joined and then 2 weeks later never seen again. Wonder what happened to him? Perhaps it was just a bit of therapy for him to have a moan about his employer 🤔
After his slagging off posts he has followed Harry's advice and taken some me me me time!

does anyone have a link to the rules for each site or are they all different?

Rules are standard across the network of about 200 sites. One of the only times you'll find anomalies is where a Warden has to judge the best way to pitch a van to maintain safety distance due to awkward layouts on site. A prime example would be a notice on the peg of a short pitch stating that you may pitch sideways.
