Hymer - possibly
We are buying a Hymer and are two weeks away from delivery. The dealer has just told us the fantastic news(their words) that they are increasing the price by 3k. Is this normal? We are buying it so our disabled son has a base when we’re out and about. We really want to get it for him but feel we’re being taken advantage of.

I would think it depends on what you signed if Hymer have increased the price I suppose that would be reasonable but if for any other reason I would quibble

Unless you have a fixed price contract I would expect their T&C will allow them to do what they like price wise.

3k doesn't sound too bad, we ordered a Carthago last September, it's already gone up 7k but we have a fixed price contract.

Do you want your dealer to stay in business?
Are they profiteering or just passing on their increased costs?
Can you get the same van at the same cost, now, from another dealer?

Not trying to circumvent any rules and regulations but if the van has to be specially adapted for use by a disabled person it may have an effect on the VAT element. Not trying to bend any rules but worth checking as you cant do it retrospectively

Tell em to stuff it and buy something else.

Buyers market at present
Buyers Market? Really?? if they cancel I’d bet they will have another 12-24 months wait plus an extra few grand on top again! 🤔

Show me where there’s decent quality new or nearly new vans at ‘Buyers Market’ prices……

Why would I ever buy new lol

Look at the hassle everyone has with dealers and new vans.

But everything advertised currently has been advertised for months unless its very very cheap.

and it needs to be a permanent adaptation. A pair of telescopic ramps and steering wheel knob no longer count. That loop hole ended years ago.
If it is a new Hymer and it’s being permanently adapted the VAT saving could be huge. The 3k increase will be a tiny price to pay.

Personally, after making it very clear with the dealer that I wasn't happy and if there really is no legal recourse based on the contract you signed, then I'd probably swallow the extra on the basis that your van will probably be worth it to you.

I'd also be wanting to knock him down to cost on the price of installing any extra's after delivery. In fact that might be worth making part of your acceptance, especially if you have a long list of extras to add. Its easier for the dealer to swallow labour costs than equipment costs.

Travel World?

I went to Travel world last year and was interested in a Hymer. They specifically told me they the prices were not set for 2023 and the prices were probably going to go up. I could put a fully refundable deposit down, but any price increases from Hymer would be passed onto me. £3k is not too bad. They were saying it could be from 10 to 15K. Personally I would ask for a free hab check and service to try to off set it.

There are many including me who have bought new price protected vans and have put up with the delays. I have never bought a vehicle which was worth more after driving it off the forecourt! A 15 month wait admittedly but price protected. Buying new has been a bonus for us and has been just perfect. Niggles have been done seamlessly under warranty and have still 2 more years to go (y) Would I buy second hand currently looking at the prices - definately no!
Not a buyers market from what I can see currently. However that may well change as house owners default on payments and decide to go on the road, despite still owing the outstanding debt.

Having my distrust
Are you trading in? Tell him yours has gone up 3k 😀
Lol aye the dealer might add 3 grand to the price he sells it for but he'd likely try and reduce what he paid you for it.

We were told when we looking at new motorhomes last year that 12 - 18 months wait and they are building in 10% extra on the current price because they were going up as they were being built.
They wouldnt agree a fixed price .

Might be at your end of the market but new vans are still like rocking horse sh*t with 1 to 2 year deliveries and they will be even dearer then.

I guess if folk pay it they've no reason not to do it.

Aye but that's why I wouldn't buy new . There's loads of really good 10 year old vans on the market the now and been advertised for weeks n months

I wouldn't say they were bangers.

Many have got less faults and better build quality than the new ones being sold .

It's bad enough having to wait a year or 18 months to get it but then for it to cost more and possibly have a lot of faults to fix I can't think of anything worse.

Someone thought up a good plan when they decided that was the way forward lol

Don’t post a lot on here now I know why. I once got banned for six month for sticking up for someone could have chosen my wording better. But Come on to fk there’s a bit of up your own arse and snobbery saying ten year old vans are bangers.

There seems to be an increasing number of new motor homes available, that also seems to be true at the top end including Carthago amongst others. The increasing new prices also do not seem to be rolling down to 1/2/3 year old motor homes. Are we approaching the tipping point……

We were told our price was fixed as we’d ordered two years ago and it was constantly delayed. Now we are told it was semi fixed. Had they told us the price was moveable we’d have gone second hand and had two years in the van by now.

So Lenny, you are saying that our quality German built N+B Flair of 2006 vintage (part of the "so called" notorious Hymer Group.............now USA owned  ) is an old banger, despite it still likely to be on the road when younger models from other manufacturers, (mainly British unfortunately), will be heading for the scrap heap? Shame on you. :( ................. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)

That is awful but sadly typical of that dealership.

Hope you get it sorted, it isn’t too late to still go second hand and have no warranty ties to them.
