The DVLA also have mobile ANPR cameras. When I used to live in Poole I often saw it set up beside the A338 to scan passing vehicles.

Only 5 days but you only need one idiot to run into you and then you realise insurance invalid as vehicle not registered. It does not matter how careful you drive yourself it is always others you have to be aware of.Mine turned out not to be registered at all on collection day. I wasn't aware until after. Took 6 weeks to sort it. DVLA or Dealer paperwork issue - not sure who but I have my suspicions.
Anyway, it was April 2021 opening up after lock downs and I wasn't going to let it ruin our plans. We did several trips away in that period. If I had been stopped by police I would have pleaded ignorance.
Anyway, personally I reckon you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting stopped by the police in the UK (unless your are driving recklessly) . I rarely see one. I know a lot on here would disagree but I would just drive it. It's only 5 days.
It's only 5 days if you don't drive it too!. I think it would spoil it for me worrying that I might get caught I would also want to go away not just drive a few miles locally. That then raises the possibility of anpr cameras not just the plod
So if he takes your advice and has it nicked/pranged 'before' the actual registration date which means his insurance was invalid would either of you be willing to pay for the repair or buy him a replacement, plus pay his fine and his higher insurance costs for the foreseeable future?I think the experience of driving my car for 6 months without an MOT (by accident!) has made me rather blase about being caught out. I think the number of drivers on the road getting away without being insured or taxed is quite substantial.
Not that great when we got our van home put it on electric next day checked electrics they had disconnect the solar panel but batteries were at 16.5v phoned them and spoke to workshop manager who said that was all right and it was probably the solar panel doing it until I explained what they had done and not done ended up with a pair of new batteries and new charger to put in van the had not done any type of service or inspection on the van
My point was that I wouldn't risk it!!. Obviously you missed the point! So if he takes your advice and has it nicked/pranged 'before' the actual registration date which means his insurance was invalid would either of you be willing to pay for the repair or buy him a replacement, plus pay his fine and his higher insurance costs for the foreseeable future?
Sorry I quoted the wrong post ... in my defence hubby did come in just at that point with dinner ... a lovely plate of noodles, sweetcorn and a very, VERY tasty pork steak with a nice bit of fat!My point was that I wouldn't risk it!!. Obviously you missed the point!
Why don’t you ask them to deliver it on trade plates,,it will give you a chance to play with it on your driveThanks everyone - I’ll just have to wait till Monday to speak to the dealer - hopefully they can de register and re register but not sure how long that will take. I just don’t know why they didn’t register it for 1/3! I’m more than happy to have taxed it for then if needs be - no problem at all! Obviously some one has cocked up at the dealer - and I can be certain that the chap I’m dealing with won’t enjoy our conversation first thing Monday morning!!. Worst case scenario we have to take a day off work to collect on the 9th as we’ve got it booked into Vanbitz in the 11th. And they’ll be putting a full tank of petrol in it at the very least!

Errrr .....I'm not aware I gave any advice - I just reported my experience. He need to make his own mind up.

You gave an opinion which is what the OP was asking for ... you said you would drive it ... so should the OP just ignore anything you say on any subject?Well - for one you didn't quote that post back there.
Two 'I' would drive it. Don't worry - I shall put a legal disclaimer at the bottom of all future posts along the lines of 'Please note this is my personal view and whatever you decide to do is your responsibility'
That's not an absolute fact though is it ... not everyone is inexperienced nor unqualified, some actually have expertise about which they 'speak'.However, I do think everyone ought to be aware of that fact anyway as this whole forum is about anonymous, unqualified individuals answering requests for advice, views, experience.
I would be asking my insurers opinion, if it shows as taxed and the insurers don’t query the date, just get on and use it from the 4th
It doesn't matter whether it has insurance or tax as they won't be valid it if it used on the road before it's registered date thus not legal to do so ... the date of registration trumps everything else.
If a vehicle isn't registered, either by it's number plate or on its VIN (as is done when importing) then how can the insurance will be valid as they rely on one or the other to identify the vehicle in order to allocate the insurance to the correct vehicle? If the insurance company are content for it to be used without it being registered with the DVLA on the date it is being used that's up to them but I doubt they will be as my understanding of insurance policies, certainly all that I've ever had (and I've had quite a lot of vehicles!), is that a vehicle has to be road legal (not talking about the third-party liability only) which means that it has to be registered.I did say ask my insurer for qualification , are you absolutely sure not registered would mean uninsured if taxed and insured I think it would be fine, DVLA already show it as taxed if I read earlier correctly
I think best left to insurer to advise not a well intentioned but ultimately only opinioned forum amateurs
As others have said I doubt ANPR would pick it up anyway, we also totally overlooked an MOT, 10,000 miles and several ferries . Not proposing ignoring the risk but get it checked officially then making decision based on that
There are some highly qualified individuals on here who do give good advise and will point people in the direction of DVLA rules or maybe someone like eddievanbitz who gives good advise.Well - for one you didn't quote that post back there.
