DAMP FROM DAY ONE

Surely I should have been given a copy of the PDI with the damp showing as a fail ?
I definitely would have walked away (hence why they didn’t tell me) I believe
Why not just reject and get a a refund?
No need for discussions, excuses or hassle

Then chose a more reputable dealer

I’m pretty sure this is deceptive on there part , I’m not very confident on the integrity of said dealership
Especially Salesman and sales manager , who smudged their answers when I tried to get an answer from them regards “ was it damp when I paid for it “
I have emailed the CEO And not heard NOTHING BACK FROM HIM

I have read most of this thread but admit I might have missed something , but as I see it, you knew nothing about a damp door till some girl said it was reported, is it actually damp now? Could it already have been repaired when you got it, ? If it's not now damp, what can they do about it apart from pulling your van apart to try and find something that isn't there?

The Door is still on and it’s still damp , they say they are waiting parts from autotrail , how long do I wait ?

If that's all that is wrong with the motorhome you are best to just let the dealer fix it when they get the parts.
Meanwhile, enjoy your moho and relax ... life is too short for the hassle.

Confirm your understanding of each conversation with a short e-mail.
And try and find a way in thanking them fir their assistance in rectifying the issue. Sort of makes it difficult for them to disagree.

Hi Baden87, sorry to hear of your dilema, Had a similar problem with a leaking window, dealer took weeks trying to source one as it was obsolete(9 year old autotrail) i rang 'leisure spares' at Boroughbridge (autotrail recommended them) who came up with a solution, they also supply locker doors etc,i'm sure your dealer will have an account with them.

Update
2 new locker doors fitted , the inners of the doors are made from plastic ( no damp issues ) I hope that’s the end of that particular problem ?

How do you get damp in a plastic door?

They replaced the 2 doors so that both were the plastic inner variety , so I’m happy with the results
Just the faulty tracker system to resolve now

Pleased to hear that one UK manufacturer is trying to keep up with the continental competition.
BUT they all have joins, having seen the state of the sealant slapped on one last week I would certainly pay attention to these areas, the one I saw was brand new in a showroom, I made it clear I would be checking my newly ordered one when it arrived. You could not believe the sloppy work, I saw it immediately as I walked around, I have no idea if Swift have quality control or not but if so someone was not doing their job, it’s just another number to them I guess ?

Yes I agree they all have joins, it is the nature of the beast. What differs is the quality/vulnerability of the underlying construction and the effort made to check the sealing of the joints. You shouldn’t have to check them.

My new motorhome was given a drenching test by the dealer before handover and another one will be carried out at 12 weeks. I believe this is just being realistic about the flexing of motorhomes when they are first moved around, the integrity of the sealant needs checking. Most manufacturers will only honour the dampness guarantee if you have annual checks which suggests none of them really believe they are hermetically sealed for life. They just want to catch any problems before they get too deep into the structure. But of course you have to pay this somewhere along the line.

I am not sure what the structure of the Swifts are now. They used to rely upon untreated softwood for structural stability with infills of loose lay insulation which means that a leak could cause catastrophic damage if not picked up very quickly.

Most European makers now use sandwich construction with fully bonded insulation. This forms a rigid structural board and there is no need for timber. Therefore leaks do not cause the structural problems they used to.

They use a composite plastic for the wall battens in the walls but use polystyrene for insulation not only a poor insulator also water capillaries through it & they still use wooden floors.

A lot of German manufactures now use aluminium for internal walls bonded to PU or XPS foam and GRP floors. Even if water does get in it can't do any damage.

I don't believe any coachbuilt manufacturer has used loose lay insulation for years, if not decades.

2018 and yes it’s still under warranty ⚠️
Sadly HYMER are useless Dealers are useless and the van has been a complete nightmare from day one ⚠️
It’s looking increasingly likely that the van will have to be professionally sign written and taken on a U.K. wide tour of all HYMER dealers and a nice visit to the NEC show too ?
I don’t make idle threats it’s definitely a promise I made the dealer ?
Independent report has been done and next step is legal action if needed.

We did a walk round the Autotrail factory in 2012 and they did and probably still do in the over cab bed area.

I have some photographs somewhere. (y)

That looks awful. I'd be at my wit's end. I cannot understand why the manufacturer and dealer are ignoring it.
I wish you well in sorting it.
