Well in absolute frustration, I gave up on the official French Crit’air website. After trying so many things, including those suggested here I could not upload the photo of my Registration document.

I have now ordered up the Crit’air and the German version from a commercial website ( vignetteshop.co.Uk) and paid the additional handling fee. Both certificates are in the post to me.

Although I paid more, the process was so simple and quick!

Sorry to hear that and if you don't mind being ripped off, fair play to you. I ordered one for the car on Sunday last, took 10 minutes on the right browser, email confirmation by Tuesday. All on the official (free except for the €4.something charge).

My application keeps freezing after the 2 low res JPEGs have been uploaded.

I’ve restarted twice now !

Yes in our local post office, but apparently the latest rush has caused them to be unavailable at the moment. 🙄😁 Bob.
Our local Correos in Calpe now have stock of emissions stickers.
15 euros later we now have all three just in case.

2022 Euro 6 Ducato here with Crit’Air 4. Banned from Greater Paris and Marseille? No loss there then! Reims and Toulouse, not so sure but no problem.

EDIT: Ignore the above it was the German Umwelt sticker with the 4 on it I was looking at. Crit’Air is a 2.

That makes no sense,we're 2016 Euro 5+, 5.3 t and Crit'air 2 🤔

My 2013 Peugeot Elddis is Germany 4 France 2........

I do mind being ripped off - but there comes a point where the amount of time taken in trying to complete the application is a ‘rip off‘ of my time. It should not depend on the “right Browser”. It should take 10 mins on any browser! Most of us get ripped off regularly for services - so I will just add that to the list!
What I do mind though is a very badly designed website by an organisation which is ‘selling’ internationally. The designers need to look at it again, make it compatible with a range of the main browsers in use and make it more user friendly - if the evidence on here and my experiences are anything to go by.

Well, each to their own. Personally, once I had read the actual instructions on the website and followed them, the process was pretty straightforward and I would count myself as a satisfied customer.

Didn’t work for me, I’ll try it another device then I suppose I’ll have to go through an intermediary

EDIT - UPDATE
My application worked via my desktop PC but not via my Apple device.
Both times the pics were the same size, but wouldn’t upload and froze the screen on the Apple device.

Moral of story - don't use Apple devices.

I've just ordered both French and German with no problem from a PC BUT I scanned the V5C as a pdf.

Just ordered both stickers now and the only problem was for the Crit'Air, in that a small JPEG at 457kb was too large. Converted to a PDF at 275kb and it was accepted. Desktop PC using Bing if that helps others.

Not surprised - as it says at the start, the CritAir official site only works properly with these browsers

Note the version of Safari - mine is 13.1.2 and simply won't upload the picture whereas Firefox doesn't bat an eyelid.

In 2023, several French cities will tighten their traffic rules in their low emission zones (ZFE). Eleven cities will ban vehicles classified as Crit'Air 5, or even Crit'Air 4 for some of them.

In France, diesel & petrol vehicles are increasingly subject to traffic restrictions . Each vehicle must display a “Crit'Air” sticker indicating its category of greenhouse gas emissions. The category goes from 0 to 6 depending on the year of production of the vehicle and the type of fuel used. “0” ‘vignettes’ are assigned to electric or hydrogen vehicles, whilst “5” stickers are granted to diesel vehicles registered between 1997 and 2000. Go to the 'Useful Info' page for more info or you can check in which category your vehicle falls by doing an online simulation on the government website.

Compulsory for driving in town , Crit'Air vignettes are also essential during pollution peaks . More recently, we have seen the appearance of Low Emission Zones (ZFE) in most major French cities. These are areas (generally town centres) where car traffic is limited and reserved for the least polluting vehicles . According to the regulations, it is the highest Crit'Air who do not have the right of way. This is to reduce the circulation of the most polluting vehicles, in order to protect air quality and the well-being of local residents. For this year, 2023, the municipalities that will be changing their regulations are:

  • Metropolis of Lyon : ban on Crit'Air 5 vehicles. The system of fines (€68) begins on January 1 , 2023.
  • Greater Paris : ban on Crit'Air 4. Crit'Air 3 will be banned on July 1 , 2023.
  • Grenoble : ban on Crit'Air 5
  • Marseille : ban on Crit'Air 5. Crit'Air 4 will be banned on September 1 , 2023.
  • Montpellier : ban on Crit'Air 5
  • Nice : ban on Crit'Air 5
  • Reims : ban on Crit'Air 4
  • Rouen : ban on Crit'Air 5
  • Saint-Étienne : ban on Crit'Air 5
  • Strasbourg : ban on Crit'Air 5
  • Toulouse : ban on Crit'Air 4

I case no one else has mentioned it - If you have a Disabled Parking Permit ( Blue Badge ) then you do not need a CritÀir ..

I was interested to read in the extravt from the Mhoming France passage that it stated

"Compulsory for driving in town , Crit'Air vignettes are also essential during pollution peaks ."

My understanding was that a Crit'Air sticker was necessary at all times where an Emission Zone had been set up, whether it was active at the time of entry or not., not just when pollution peaks had been promulgated or not.

Of course they are needed in those zones which are permanent like Paris.

Which is correct?

Not according to the French government website...

I have a disability: does it apply to me?

YES. Having an Air Quality Certificate affixed is mandatory in the circumstances that call for it, even for vehicles with a parking permit for disabled persons or a mobility inclusion card. These vehicles are not subject however to the traffic restrictions.

and...

I have a special exemption: does it apply to me?

Having an Air Quality Certificate affixed is mandatory, even for vehicles and purposes that are exempt from the restrictions that apply in restricted traffic zones or on a temporary basis.

Make your own decision from the French government website...

Do I have to use an Air Quality Certificate?

What is an Air Quality Certificate?

Air Quality Certificates are compulsory for:

  • Vehicles driving and parking in restricted traffic zones as designated by the local authorities, such as inside thepériphérique (the Paris ring road);
  • Vehicles driving while temporary traffic restrictions apply, as determined by local Prefects during periods when pollution levels are high;
Local authorities experiencing acute pollution problems have the option to introduce restricted traffic zones that rely on Crit'Air certificates, for the purpose of reducing traffic and bringing about a long-lasting improvement in air quality. Once such a zone is established, the certificate is essential for driving in it. Crit'Air is first and foremost a tool for use by local authorities undertaking voluntary measures aimed at improving air quality.

For more information about the arrangements currently in force, you can contact the Town Hall or the Prefecture.

Information is also available on the website of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion:

https://www.ecologique-solidaire.gouv.fr/certificats-qualite-lair-critair
The restrictions in these areas apply to all road vehicles driving in them.

Having an Air Quality Certificate affixed is mandatory, even for vehicles and purposes that are exempt from the restrictions applicable in restricted traffic zones or introduced on a temporary basis.

From that it seems that my understanding was right and that 'Motorhoming France' have got it wrong.

I left that blank and got to pay my money at the end. I did put in euro 6 somewhere on the application. But it has been a few days now and many, many brain cells have died😊. So I hope I haven't given you duff info.
