Covid-wise, how are things back in UK?

Yes. I don't want your cold or flu either.

That's fine. As I said

...I'm afraid that those most vulnerable to effects of the the virus have to shield and protect themselves as much as they can or feel they need to.

That leaves the majority of us to just get on with living.

Only gets a mention if someone is trying to avoid work.
here here .avoid what what ? have u got the dred-id lurgey. be care-full.try a tank full of derv, in the truck nach-rally. keep going
and smile. ok.pj

I still think hand cleaning is pretty much a waste of time as far as avoiding a respiratory infection is concerned and largely promoted as we were short of masks in the first wave
I need to be poo hot on this……hand washing is important.

I'm still surprised at the amount of men who don't wash their hands when using motorway services toilets.
It's a dilemma. Confine yourself to just handling something you know was thoroughly washed in the morning and doesn't carry Covid, or stand shoulder to shoulder with someone who may be breathing out the virus, whilst handling taps and dryers touched by thousands of others, many of whom won't have washed sufficiently.

The percentage of people having covid, in the uk, is increasing week by week. This pathetic government isn't doing a thing about it. They just hope it will go away.
Just very simple measures would at least help to slow the spread. Mask wearing in doors in all public places, frequent hand washing, mandatory isolation if you have covid and free or low cost testing. But no that would infringe on our rights. What about our rights not to catch covid or at least give consideration to those around you incase you have it but are not showing symptoms but infectious. Too many people seem to need to be told what to do when basic commom sense should be enough.

I would agree with most of what you say. I still wear my mask and wash my hands without the need for government instruction; I still have the freedom to choose when and were I go without being nannied by Government. Blaming the Government for peoples lack of common sense and personal responsibility is just a cop out! Don't forget it was the 'pathetic government' which lead the Western world in UK vaccine procurement and delivery, not forgetting the heroic efforts of the NHS as well.

New Study: COVID-19 May Cause or Accelerate Neurological Diseases

There is also the concern around infection/multiple infection and how T Cells are compromised (not functioning)

So whilst we are trying to get on with life just living and agree with Dr Chritine Peters who wrote

Cautious does NOT = anxious Risk mitigation does NOT mean risk averse

So we are wearing masks in shops and stying away from mass gatherings

If you use Twitter this thread is worth reading (she talks about it being a viral meningitis) :

Dr Claire Taylor

@drclairetaylor

1/ Someone posted today about #COVID19 being a cold and we should all just catch it and take paracetamol. So I thought I would tell you all about my experience with the new Ba.5 variant.Suffice to say I did not have a cold. I should start off by saying I do not have #LongCovid

Is this woman a yank? As viral meningitis can't be contracted by coughing, sneezing or generally breathing on anyone, I very much doubt it. Even if you do catch viral meningitis there's not much chance of you spreading it. It's not even a notable infection.

I'd ask her where she works, oh, and what her GMC number is as I can only find 4 Claire Taylor's on the register who would be involved in any specialty or sub-specialty related to viral or bacterial infections, 3 aren't her and the other is a colleague of my wife, all of which are very easily found with a simple google search.

I’m not a Dr but there does appear to be cases of viral meningitis associated with Covid-19 reported in various academic papers around the world even though it seems there are not many cases.

Viral Meningitis Associated With COVID-19 in a 9-year-old Child: A Case Report

Any one of the 7 Coronaviruses, from SARS-COV-2 down to HKU1 can cause viral meningitis, it's commonly known in Respiratory medicine and has been for many, many years. So to can the myriad of RSV and Rhinoviruses we all suffer from. Viral meningitis in of itself is quite common and not particularly serious with most sufferers not knowing they have it far less spread it... it's a hand to mouth virus.... you can't sneeze or cough it onto another person, it doesn't work that way. It'll make you ill but it's very rarely fatal. The U.K. sees around 12000 cases annually.

Since MMR cases have fallen dramatically as measles, mumps as well as chickenpox used to lead to viral meningitis in many sufferers.

It's nasty and I agree it's a topic worthy of discussion as many people see the word Meningitis and worry but don't confuse it with it's particularly nasty cousin - Bacterial Meningitis, which even if discovered and treated promptly is around 20% fatal.
