Covid-wise, how are things back in UK?

Many people think COVID is past event…… However because of complacency it is increasing significantly.

Look in most places ( buses, trains, shops, pubs etc), who tries to keep decent spaces, how many wear masks?

Just because Covid related deaths have thankfully fallen, it doesn’t mean it is not a risk.

My brother in law is effectively confined to his house because he is on immune suppressant drugs and the risk of exposure to COVID is too high to go out - just one example of the many thousands for whom the risk of COVID is extreme.

So to those who think COVID is a done deal, or jest about people using it as an excuse to skip work etc…… You are idiots!
I do agree JDK62 - my wife is immuno- suppressive and in the same boat. Thank god we have the MH to get out into the forest. She has been told by her consultant not to go to hospital for much needed tests because they say its too risky. She's on fortnightly blood tests right now but thankfully our GP still has the mask rule firmly in place.

My village surgery closed again this week due to staff shortages with Covid. Also for the past 3 months the dispensary at the other surgery has not had my meds due to staff shortages, quoted Covid again. Is it because of B or Covid 🤷‍♀️

It seem the IOM has had a massive increase due to last months TT festival but nobody is panicking
Me and my wife were part of that increase. Felt rough for 10 days but all's well with us now.

I don't think it is complacency as such. With Covid levels as low as they have been and the severity of the infection generally quit low, does anybody really believe that we should continue to maintain the precautions and levels of vigilance that we did throughout the worst times of the pandemic? Regardless of what we do, short of confining everybody to lockdown hell, an epidemic such as covid will always ebb and flow in cycles for a number of years, and to a certain extent will continue for years even when it settles into an endemic status, much as flu does.
I'm predicting that there will be a rise and fall throughout the summer and early autumn and that there will be a bigger spike over the winter. Unless there is a much more virulent strain we should do nothing more than we are now. Even then, there is a good body of evidence the indicate that all many of the restrictions were of any real benefit, and were in fact more harmful in many ways.
I know it does not seem equitable, but I'm afraid that those most vulnerable to effects of the the virus have to shield and protect themselves as much as they can or feel they need to.

I now take no notice. I’ve had covid and to me it was just like a cold. I take a flu jab and have had it once, very bad indeed. I have lived with flu all my life and so be it.

We both had it and we’re knocked for six for a week or so plus little energy next 2 weeks.
Real issue is that apparently having had it no longer provides immunity so you could have lots of repeat infections. If you were repeatedly as unwell as we were that round have a huge impact on productivity ..

Yes sadly read the research on that and whilst cotracting Coronovirus/Sars A or B gave future immunisation however contracting the latest Covid variant gives no further immunisation according to recently published research. So we appear to be stuck with it like a bad case of flu but having said that from friends who have tested positive the effects are variable but generally not serious excepting of course the immuno suppressed etc.

Still 334 weekly deaths from covid recorded on 10th of June

I call on Care Homes for work and yes 100% still about
Of course it is and it's going to hang around just like Flu and people act as if it's all over! Masks for example now discarded as if it's gone away! Life needs to open up and the next booster is underway albeit with receipient criteria yet to be anounced. However it's still amazing to me how personal responsibility is so swiftly abrogated!

Agree with the sentiment behind your argument but you throw words of your wisdom about as though they really are facts. Fortunately when covid was lethal we had the medical experts to listen to rather than rely on the thoughts of just anybody on social media.

Me and hubby have had it ,(hes 5 days behind me)
and weve both been very poorly thank god for vaccinations

Still is / can be lethal to many. :(

100% correct sad but true, a couple of friends who have had it 3 times still have no taste along with lower energy and the inability to run as they did previously these are youngsters who work in the NHS.

Me and the wife have been on a ONS covid study for nearly 2 years now. We get tested once a month for covid and for antibodies. I have had 3 jabs (last jab last November) and had covid (very mildy) last Christmas. My antibody tests are still coming in at very high le.vels

It’s all a matter of balance and risk management for me. I don’t wear a mask in the supermarket but I would if on a bus as it’s a smaller area and people can sit very close. Had Covid last month and it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

Yes figures are rising because of new variants but as with flu, pneumonia etc the virus will ’pick on’ the weakest and most vulnerable.

As for the weekly death figures these are people who died ‘with’ Covid not ‘of’ it. A minor difference in wording but it’s significant. My mother-in-law died ‘with Covid’, it’s on her death certificate, along with heart failure and various other medical conditions. She caught the virus in her Care Home and had tested negative the day before she fell out of bed and died. she was 91 and in poor health so I doubt Covid shortened her life by more than a couple of months

I came down with symptoms yesterday, 2 days after returning from Greece on an aircraft. Headache, blocked nose, feeling weak. I've had my jabs. We just have to put up with it.

I have had the misfortune to be attending both my local hospital and Guy's Hospital in London over the past several months and have always been met by security guards insisting I take a mask and use the hand sanitizer (happy to do so) before entering the hospital. My latest visit on Friday to Guy's and all that has now gone so there must be a sea change in COVID policy.

The thing about mask wearing, it isn’t just about protecting yourself, it is also helping to protect others from any infection you might have.

Numbers are high but I've not heard of any "new variants" I'm sorry for your mother in law but it sounds like you're trying to minimse the problem. I had a very good friend die this year from Covid. although he was 90 he and had a chest problem he was healthy and would probably have lived for quite a few good years had it not been for covid. I'm sure that there are many such examples who have more than a "couple of months"

It's all over in UK,France and Spain as far as I can see.Must be because no one except us washes their hands, wipes the trolly down or wears masks in supermarkets,,BUSBY.

I wasn’t trying to minimise the problem as I’m well aware that Covid can make people very ill and in some cases kill them or bring on an early death but I think it’s important to understand the data reported.

i was just pointing out that my Mother in law is shown on the stats as ‘died with Covid’ because she died within 28 days of a positive test. However when she was in hospital a few weeks before with a chest infection the consultant wanted to stop her meds saying that she had, at the most, a couple of months left.

As for the variants I’m sure Ive seen on the news that there are 2 more variants with a higher transmission rate (one originating inSouth Africa.

Chris my wife has run her clinics since the beginning of Covid, seeing up to 30 patients a day after 2yrs of avoiding the virus she tested positive, had to stay away from the hospital for 10days but showed no symptoms, we just carried on as usual in the house, I never caught it.
I have never had influenza so perhaps I have some immunity, we are all different so just like the plague some got it and died others didn't.
Isolating away from everyone isn't a good idea you will just lose all your natural immunities, obviously there are those that are susceptible and they need to take the necessary precautions but wearing masks when out in the open is nuts.

Scotland is like a Petri dish at the moment, with Covid at 1 in 20
