Cost of Motorhome Habitation Checks

Caravan and Motorhome services Ltd Chard I believe is £130

Paid £285 this year for habitation check at dealers. Going to see if they will just do the seal check next year.

Never had a hab check on any caravan or motorhome since my first one in 1972..Mind you I have only actually bought two new vans in that time..All ways check my gas for leaks and change red gas pipes before due date...BUSBY.

Might be worth mentioning in the article that readers might want to consider just instructing the dealer to carry out a damp check .Personally I don't like paying for someone to tell me everything is working.
I don't like paying for someone to tell me it's got damp ! It should be free when still under warranty.

Highbridge Caravans, Somerset, now charge £259 for a motorhome habitation service.

I had the first hab service done in 2018 and the only tangible benefit was they tightened hinge screws on a locker.

I could easily have done that myself and saved £250.

I have never had a Hab test, never want a new van and refuse to buy one.

There is a Carbon Monoxide and smoke detector in the lounge, and I purchased an expensive, long-nosed, handheld gas detector and a long-pronged damp detector for getting into tight places and doing checks which I do once a year or more if needed.

Every year when I have my van MOTed, the tester allows me to half an hour to check everything underneath, while it's still over the pit.
I still have my old Heavy Diesel mechanic's ticket, not sure if that makes a difference?

I was quote the attached by the Erwin Hymer on our B 778 PL. It did not include a damp check.

I had the check done by a local mobile guy which included a damp check for 180.00.

That just confirms my view of Travelworld. I always get the impression that they think they are doing me a favour by being prepared to sell me a 'van.

Those prices are simply ridiculous and smack of arrogance and, in my view, reflect stunning contempt for their customers.

Not sure if we got crossed wires with my local dealer (you know who it is😁) I asked for a Black sticker damp check (Carthago thing, but not anymore) yes we’ll book you in, how much I asked……….

£750

She must have thought full hab check and major engine service😉😁😁😁😁

I didn’t do it🤷‍♂️🙄

I bought a second hand van from a major dealership and when I checked the second and third year warranty it was not worth the cost of the hab check. I am able to test the gas and electricity myself, so I bought a damp meter and do that too.

Our habitation check, including damp check, cost £182 and a few pence in August 2022.

Carthago habitation and leak inspection service is £399inc vat and certificate, our premium mechanical service is £449inc vat.
I've booked in at Camper UK in January at these rates. I wasn't happy with the service I had last January for hab and mechanical servicing. I thought Camper UK have a good reputation and will do it well.

Don’t understand how motorhome manufacturers can make it compulsory to use a dealer listed by the manufacturer, but a car manufacturer cannot enforce the use of one of their dealers and customers can choose a dealer of their choice provided the work is carried out as per the manufacturer requirements?

We paid £218 at Vehicles 4 Leisure, North Wales in July (y)

The 1sr year it was due it was going to cost £250 at Marquies Preston. However because of covid and us needing to stay in M/H if going over we would have needed to take lots of stuff out ie cushions bedding etc. So we asked them for a list of local approved service engineers and got one within a few miles of us who comes out to do the service on our drive at £110 a time needless to say I cannot give you his details because he is so busy he cannot take anyone else on.

For the first 4 years my hab check was £200 at Simpsons required by Rapido warrenty. 5 years old coming up so ill do a damp check 2 months before end of warrenty and book in for another check if required.

I use a mobile technician who attends our storage location (NCC Approved), he is friendly, professional and very thorough.
£140 for full habitation service and damp check.

Use a local mobile guy £200.00 Ncc. approved money for old rope.
Results downloaded to swift website, I wouldn’t bother but for the warranty.

Damp test for our Carthago is £89 needed for the 5 year warranty with the dealer.
They wanted £299 for Hab, Gas & Damp test.

Habcheck.com
£220 , very professional, come to you, and efficient.

I'm writing a beginners article about Habitation checks. Whats the going rate for a check at the moment, dealers and independents? Cheers

We use an Approved Workshop Mobile (Nationwide Caravan Services) based in Scunthorpe we are expecting to pay a little more this year has been £150 for YEARS
Ours is being done in 10 days will report then

Our very thorough hab check came in at £165 last year. Due on the 30th of November.

If you want to maintain the warranty then ensure you get a damp check done by the authorised dealer. I have maintained our warranty for the last 5 years and if I hadn't then I would of got hit with a 10k bill this year for water ingress and them having to remove the heated flooring and relay with new. For the sake of £90 which is what we have been charged it's a no brainer. For us rapido don't recognise ncc approved. Only option for us was to travel the 200 mile back to the dealer which I have done religiously each year and glad I have.

Hab check last time checked was £350
