Comfort Insurance-Beware

I've been with Comfort for 13 years always found them good had a claim about 10 years ago, no increase in premium after.
But yesterday I phoned them for an idea on the cost of the new van due in a few months looks like I won't be using them. They wanted £1000 and a tracker & alarm fitted before it leaves the dealer.
Serves you right for getting another (gin) Palace. Book an alarm fitting with VanBitz and tell comfort you will be in the van from pick-up at dealers till Alarm is fitted. So it can only be stolen at gun point. You know it makes sense. 🤣🤣😉

I have seen that before but couldn't find it when I looked.
That doesn't tie up with the OP post he should only be paying 50 or 60% so I don't think he is with Comfort.
Err, I do know which company I have insurance with!
Been with Comfort since 2017.
My last policy is underwritten by LV, it used to be Aviva.

Just checked my Comfort policy and it’s underwritten by Aviva, and refunds are proportional to the days used.
Just a thought Is there something different here with your policy as you are based outside UK?
No difference, still used my UK address as that motorhome was for use in the UK.
Got a Spanish registered motorhome for Europe.

I recall now Comfort offered me an alternative policy for my pvc. I think it possibly was called a camper van policy, it was suitable for Motorhomes rather than VW type vans as the name suggested, but the cover was different re time in EU I think so it was not what I wanted. That may have been a non AVIVA policy?

Not a gin palace this time, one of the cheapest vans they make.
No insurance with them until tracker & alarm fitted.
Also not paying that price.

I sold my UK registered motorhome yesterday. The new owner arranged his insurance so I phoned Comfort Insurance today to cancel the policy which does not expire until mid August.
I was informed that the policy is underwritten by LV and as the policy had been in force for over 120 days there would be NO REFUND!
I was told there is no appeal to this ripoff, under the term and conditions there will be no refund! (Pease no smart aleck comments about how I should have read umpteen pages of fine print)
Anyone considering taking out insurance with Comfort should be aware and clarify with them this 120 day no refund rule.
Saga give refund of remaining money

Told you, its a big risk 130k van.

I had the same problem with AIB, sold the van last Sept and phoned insurance company to get refund, only to be told 'Sorry no can do but we will freeze the policy'.
Phoned up last week to start new policy for March only to be told £50 fee to do so, not happy but okay, 'When do you want policy to start?' '2nd March' said I, 'Your policy expires on the 3rd March' 'No I suspended the policy in September as you would not refund the premium so I should have six months insurance to run' 'No you don't we told the insurance company that you didn't have the van but the policy has continued!'
Needless to say someone else now has my custom!
If you have in writing that they would suspend your policy then you should refer them to the ombudsman.

It does definitely state that in the terms of the Highway (LV) policy sold by Comfort so you are not loosing your marbles!

The Aviva policy which most have doesn't have such crap refund terms - I recall when I was looking for insurance previously that those terms were given along with other things in the policy I wasn't happy about so that's why I decided on Comfort with Aviva.

Anyone with a Highway/LV policy needs to check to ensure they know their terms as I suspect it will be the standard on all LV MH policies.

Unfortunately you do have to study every single part of a policy's documentation as they aren't all the same as you've found to your cost.

Only with Highway (LV) policies, not Aviva, it's not actually Comfort's fault but a warning to check is a good thing and may stop others falling foul too.

yes, most charge interest ... and not cheap

NFU don't.. 0% interest , annual price divided by 12
And a full refund if you cancel & and no administration charges for changes to the policy.

I'm with Comfort since 2021. Mine is underwritten by Aviva. However, the cancellation policy is in Comforts policy document I cannot see anywhere where it mentions the underwriter, so I assume applies to any Comfort policy. In your case, according to below - if you took your policy out in August you would have used possibly 7 months so would have to pay 80% of the premium plus a £35 admin charge - that could possibly mean no refund due??? But certainly not a 120 day rule.

Hey Jim

Please leave a review here

Cheers
Done! Kept it factual.
When I told the guy who phoned me back after I requested to speak to a manager that I was going to post my disgust on social media, he actually threatened me if I wrote anything they considered deflamatory!

Can you post a screen shot of the 120 day rule from your 'full policy wording' as mentioned in my post above?

Nothing defamatory if you only post the truth.

They probably use different underwriters, I'm with AIB who always used Markerstudy but been moved over to Aviva on this years renewal
I was with AIB at the beginning of last year and it was Aviva

Yesh, they've stopped using Markerstudy now, maybe a household name is preferable, I'm not sure, but the cost with Aviva is competitive.
Markerstudy are the worst company bar none! Check out there reviews!

Had 30 days in the past not now when the van is over £100k
When I first insured our £150k+ MH with Comfort in 2021 they covered our van for everything except theft up until I sent proof of the alarm fitting and tracker which was about 2 weeks later.

Perhaps they have changed their t & c’s since then.

I did when I first went with them, but I think none have particularly good reviews probably because it tends to be those who have disputes that leave a review ?
Thankfully I never needed to claim or deal with them

Here is their cancellation schedule.

Booklet is 44 pages. Terms and conditions for when LV underwrite through a broker. In my case through Comfort.
I was informed by 2 people at Comfort that my policy was underwritten by LV.
If LV acquire the cover from yet another company, this just another reason we pay so much. They all want a slice of the pie.

Can you not use the remaining on another vehicle? ( with a policy change for example) or put it on hold until you get another vehicle
Tried to do that when I was between doblo and my car, still waiting for the promised, minimal refund.
