Campsite Price Rises

My guess would be that with it stating day rate, they will pay you £400 for any day you work, but don't guarantee you a weeks work for example. It is not a full time job.

That is why it is £400. I am a freelancer and I work in a similar method. I guess it will be a 10 hour day, with the worker providing their own gear, fuel, transport and safety gear. works out at £40 an hour top line, but after costs probably closer to an effective £20-£25 depending on how many days a week he can get work.
I think there are a couple of issues for trades people (or anyone who is self employed). Some do not know how to quote, presentation skills are poor and resort to underpricing themselves. even a handyman can if the quoting for work is reasonable should be easily get £220 for an 8 hour day or £1k per week then assume you will work for 40 weeks per year. Out of that will come like any business expenses Tax and insurance plus the odd mishap. So that makes its sort of living wage for a Handyman but an electrician, plumber, carpenter, plasterer etc should be able to earn half or double that.

But whilst many have the skill of a tradesperson not everyone has the skill to run the business

I pay £400 a day for my engineer, he has about £25k worth of equipment plus his vehicle and has worked booked up most every day for the next 6 months.
£400-500 a day for a body is just the odd day when they are desperate no way I have seen any trades on this much full time.
Mate has 30+bricklayers all good chaps and they are not near £300 a day.

Brickie foreman at a guess would be on around £250 a day atm. I know a short while back, my brickie mates were on around £230 a day.

Not far off with them rates Steve
Machine drivers are around £200 a day as are groundworkers.

HS2 is distorting the market and paying Machine drivers £300 a day so everyone else thinks they are worth that much now!

I'm also a freelancer, the screenshot I posted was two weeks work. From what you've said £400/day isn't out of the way?

£400 a day for an in demand skill for a freelancer is about right for london. £300 up north.

This is for day rates where they can pick you up and drop you as needed. ie I need you for Monday and Friday. No contract.

For more skilled work, you can get as much as £1,000 a day. I have even seen £1,500 a day for IT/Data Centre jobs on day rates.

I just thought, some on here may not believe me when I say pay rates of £1,000 a day. Seems like only financial services or MP's on second jobs would be getting this.

Girl I know is head of a company turning over £450m a year and carrying out a lot of rail work and they pay some of their freelance consultant £6-700 a day, certain trades can get this but only a few.

There is a lot more getting this rate than you would think.

Reading about how in America, where they are experiencing a motorhome boom much bigger than ours, that campsites prices are almost doubling and so many are now using dynamic pricing, much like airlines do. As demand increases so do prices.

It's easy to shout "greed" but they defend the rises saying that their insurance has gone through the roof, business taxes are up, staff needing pay rises, all services like waste and water are being hiked. Coming to a campsite near you if it hasn't already.?
I used to own a CL in the Peak District and even at double the price (£30) it would be cheap. If you got services included beyond ehu and water you were onto a winner.

It’s funny it was all privatised and get rid of the Union etc because it would be cheaper and so much better.

Having spent a few years with my company replacing bridges and station upgrades for Network Rail the money they waste is obscene, pretty much everything is double or treble the price it should be plus then you have the aborted works where then then have to pay for no works to be done due to a simple lack of paperwork in place.☹️☹️

I certainly agree with you that going away in the van can "feel" cheaper, but also that it very probably isn't when you actually do the maths!
60-ish grand for the van, let's say 5 ish more for various additions and alterations to make it suit us better - how many summer holidays is that?!

I do absolutely take the point of being able to go away for the weekend / bank holidays etc with little to no pre-planning etc, but it's certainly not a cheap hobby is it!!
That's if you buy a new or late van..Mine cost me 15k 5 years ago and I reckon there is still plenty of life left in it...I hope anyway..We are getting ancient together,,BUSBY

Ours seems to be ageing more slowly than us!
