Campsite Price Rises

I spoke to a site owner yesterday, booking for next year. How do you price not knowing what your electricity prices are going to be or as previously stated the cost of commercial waste. I would hope to book about 100 nights away, mainly sites with ehu although more cl's next year, I will however go where I want and book a site suitable for it.

Still feels cheaper to me but I take your point😂
I think the beauty for me is that I don’t need to plan too much and given that I’m still working can go away for the weekend at the drop of a hat!
The last time we went away for a long weekend in a lodge (UK) I’m pretty sure it was over £1000 although we did have the kids with us.
I certainly agree with you that going away in the van can "feel" cheaper, but also that it very probably isn't when you actually do the maths!
60-ish grand for the van, let's say 5 ish more for various additions and alterations to make it suit us better - how many summer holidays is that?!

I do absolutely take the point of being able to go away for the weekend / bank holidays etc with little to no pre-planning etc, but it's certainly not a cheap hobby is it!!

If sites are quoting a rise in electricity prices as a justification for price rises then fine....just as long as they offer the option of not having EHU..
They don’t have to offer anything. As far as I know we’re not in a state controlled market so it’s up to them what they charge and up to us if we buy.

As eddievanbitz has stated, the reselling of electricity to consumers is to a large extent "state controlled".
Only the electric not the pitch, nobody makes anybody buy a van or use a pitch

Just looked at love2stay in Shropshire, last week £30.00 per night yesterday £40.00, right through to Xmas!!
Needless to say they won’t be on my visit list. The Car Park in Shrewsbury now on the Campra list will be for me!!

On the way to cornwall on boxing day this year I will be in a layby for the first night 👍 the most I have paid for a site is £38 for one sunday night on an average site in the middle of nowhere but adjacent to a wedding venue, the venue charged 130 a night for a room and a taxi to nearest hotel was £35 return

Normally try to keep under £25 a night for a site pitch but it all depends where I need to be
The 6 sites we did this year averaged £25. Can live with that but suspect when we get back on the road we will be paying more.

I guess just like when looking at ferry prices etc, then when looking again it’s gone up
That's probably not dynamic pricing but the cookies left on your computer from the first visit to their website, try using a new incognito window.

Last campsite wee stayed on was at Harlech, Wales. 1 Night was £45, to park on a pitch.
Jesus, that must be some special park! Were you buying shares in the place :giggle:

I'm surprised that Britstops is not being mentioned much or if at all in this thread. I've stayed on various club sites, CLs and CSs and they certainly have there place but being self contained, a lot of the time I do not need the use of the toilet / shower block, water fill / disposal or EHU for up to about 4 days so like to use the Britstops where possible, it's a win win situation, the 20/30 quid that I would pay for parking my van for the night behind an electric barrier instead goes to a landlord in exchange / contribution to beer and food. I always felt safe pitching up at these places and there are some cracking pubs to be found.

Surely it's always about value for money? Have you seen the price of self catering cottage accommodation lately? Holiday prices have gone up across the board. But in any case, I can't see that you can compare/predict things in the UK based on what happens in America - from what I've seen they tend to go for large motorhomes and no doubt they want all singing, all dancing sites to stay on, whereas a lot of the boom in this country seems to be the 'stealth camping' side of things with people parking a brilliant white van conversion at the side of a loch somewhere and imagining no one has noticed them...

Just one thought hear if you pay £60k for a MoHo it will be worth more than 2shillings and six pence when you sell. Whilst I understand capital is tied up you will get a chunk back depending on when you sell. So if you assume £20k over 5-6 years that’s roughly £3300- 4k per year. So if you think what a skiing and summer holiday can cost your not doing bad.

We are a family of 5 when its per person it cost's us a fortune, but far cheaper than a package holiday,we usaly go for 5 weeks to france for the summer having a motorhome makes it affordable for us,our van is only a £20,000 only! one day i will get a better one but it gives us the freedom to go whenever we want,we get away far more than any of my freinds which is what we enjoy.

That’s got to be a typo error surely. I’ve just choked on my dinner

From my experience of visiting london you'd need twice that to live in a hovel and never go out other than to work
£400-500/day isn't out of the way for tradesmen in London these days, Manchester sites were looking for Brickie's at £600/day a while back.

@£10 you would get 1/2 of a large pizza 🍕 delivered to your door…..I noticed a flyer come through our door a pizza is is £20 and about £3 for extras so in context sites are not expensive.

That is the very reason I don’t have pizza delivered 😳

Really 😳

Have you got any contact numbers as I’m up for that kind of wedge a day 👍

As a tradesman who lives just outside London I can tell you the tradesman isn’t getting £400-£500/day

Shame that a skilled tradesman should be able to earn good money

I've averaged £13.12 per night over 62 nights this year, and that's without going abroad where the average would have been lower.

My guess would be that with it stating day rate, they will pay you £400 for any day you work, but don't guarantee you a weeks work for example. It is not a full time job.

That is why it is £400. I am a freelancer and I work in a similar method. I guess it will be a 10 hour day, with the worker providing their own gear, fuel, transport and safety gear. works out at £40 an hour top line, but after costs probably closer to an effective £20-£25 depending on how many days a week he can get work.
