Campsite Price Rises

The premiums for 50 pitches are going up. It seems lots of companies are moving out of campground insurance some after a series of fires and floods. So many insureres have gone bust which pushes prices higher, In california, the state has had to step in and help, as so many campgrounds could get any insurance at all. Elswehere in the US premium hikes are between 20 and 40% while actually reducing the risks they cover.
So this is one of the costs of climate change?

We’ve never really worried about prices of campsites but then again I’m still working so I guess that might make difference.
When we purchased first MH in 2019 we decided that we would give up the usual 4 weeks in the sun type holidays.

So once the initial cost of buying MH is done then no matter the cost of campsites it’s still significantly cheaper than jetting off!
Also with a MH we can do more weekend/last minute breaks which we really enjoy.

Let’s face it prices are increasing for almost everything we buy!

In part an update to my recent post about issues with large rallies being blocked by councils for many clubs

One site our local DA have used for a temporary holiday site for the last 25 years got blocked by the council with an objection based upon expected nitrate run off from waste (grey) water has had an answer from the council. The council insist on a number of additions, including ALL waste water be collected and tankered off site for treatment at our expense, not run down the drain as we do now. Totalling up the cost based on historical data of attendance, to cover this extra cost would add between £8 and £9 per unit, per night

This along with the current cost of rent and rubbish disposal makes it no longer feasible to use the site. They are extremely unhappy about this and have been told that there is no way to appeal the decision to the council. The site, a school will lose several thousand pounds per year by losing just this one rally. The local businesses are in the dark about the decision and are furious as the rally consistently increases footfall and money through their tills. The council are unconcerned about the decision and justify it as necessary based on the way other non regulated campsite are damaging the environment

Watch this space as the issue leads to pressure on established sites and the costs per night rising due to increased demand

Prices can only rise so much before the likes of me don't use sites anymore. I stayed in digs in a nice converted barn with breakfast for £40/night last week, my mate was paying £30/night on a site. I know which I'd prefer.
That happened to me in the late 90's

Soon as it went over a tenner a night I stopped using them 😁

Not necessarily, if you are looking at £30 or £40 a night, figures that have been mentioned on here before now, plus all food, diesel, tax and insurance, services, mot and other hidden costs ,tolls, tyres, tunnel or ferry.
It's getting to be a very dear holidays.
I'm doing it so don't shoot me down, but it doesn't bear working out for someone who hasn't got a lot of money.

If you gave free pitches people would still whine about, bad internet, grass to long and no doubt plenty more.
A lot of people it seems have never lived in the real world so haven’t a clue what things cost they just think anyone with a business is making a fortune out of them!!
The real world is what lies outside the campsites and holiday resorts 😉

This is going to be the thing though isnt it, whether you think so or not motorhomeing was always looked on as cheap holidays, and it was, parking in a field for a couple of quid, nothing fancy just a tent on wheels, great.
But now it has grown into showers and hookups and all the bells and whistles , hundred grand vans and all the mod cons, but it's going to turn and people who started out thinking it's a cheap holiday are going to look and see they can be in the sun in Beni for way less all thrown in.
I was sort of with you a bit until the last line if the option is a week in Beni I'll pay the expensive site fees

Just think as well a lot of these costs still apply whether you actually go on holiday or not :(

10 days all inclusive 3+*** hotel in gran canaria january £440 ...that's £44 per day with all food and drink compared to £40 per night just to park 😁

You wouldn't want to go in July though

I prefer my January holidays with a fair bit of snow but when the knees give up the ghost who knows

I've noticed prices going up on some CL/CS sites, i was told it was because of electricity prices.
The CL we are on atm recently had a visit from the club asking him to put his prices up, using the excuse that he is to cheap and that local campsites we’re not happy about it. Load of old codswallop if you ask me. They just want him to up his fees to bring him nearer to club site prices so they don’t look so bad and seem more reasonable. I have heard this from another site in Essex where the club has asked them to put their prices up.

Well everything is costing more, so what are sites to do? We are quite happy to have a basic pitch with nothing more than the necessary water and dump.
Although I have come across people who carry an electric kettle just in case they have to pay for electric🤣🤣
Obviously not on fun (well I’m paying for it )
You can spot them with the sun bed on🤣🤣

It's called inflation.
Something we've not experienced in the past few years.

It's a plot of land... but rates cost more, waste disposal costs more, utilities cost more. The owners have a reasonable expectation to make a profit.

Think they see these big gin palaces on site and then think they can make more out of them, blame the people with big Motorhomes I do😁😁

Booked a while ago for 2022 CAMC Rowntree Park, York £46 per night, it’s gone up £3-£5 per night every year over the last 3 years.

Starting to look expensive but I recently looked at hotels in York centre for December and they are £200-300+ per night.

Still feels cheaper to me but I take your point😂
I think the beauty for me is that I don’t need to plan too much and given that I’m still working can go away for the weekend at the drop of a hat!
The last time we went away for a long weekend in a lodge (UK) I’m pretty sure it was over £1000 although we did have the kids with us.

Or, to look at it another way, the normal prices are reduced outside of half terms, summer holidays &c when demand is reduced. Much like Christmas card/decorations and Easter eggs are sold at reduced prices after the events :)
That's the scammers way of addressing it. & what the toll road scum use when asked why the prices 'rise ' in summer. " no they don't rise ,we reduce them in winter"

About 30 years ago when the kids were still with us, we paid £800 for a haven static, in the school holidays for a week. :Eeek:
But we didn't have a lot of choice , one week a year and this was it.

Another option

Buy a cheap caravan and have it or tow it to Spain..(or buy one out there )

There are lots of storage yards very close to all campsites.. roughly 400/500 euros a year. They will tow it to your chosen site before you either drive out in your car or fly and hire a car.

Cheap ole holiday in the sun then drop them an email asking them to collect and return to storage yard untill next time..
They also offer a vallet service..

Just a thought we had a few years ago whilst watching other Europeans do the same.

Got friends in Canada With a rv ,Its cheaper to stay In a motel / hotel than a site. :banghead:

From what, to what, & with what facilities? I think context could be everything. I think many of us have no idea what it actually costs to run a CL, and make a profit, even if just a reasonable one. Obviously it will vary from site to site, depending on facilities, and development costs. I think there are a few CLs around that charge way too much, but on the other hand if you have a CL that hasnt put up its prices for years, and probably doesnt make a profit any more, great for visitors, but other CLs get compared unfavourably.

As a park owner our public liability insurance has doubled over the last 3 years and is turnover based , wages have gone up about 20% in the same period and last week our electric supplier ceased to trade and the brokers have seen a increase in our unit costs of between 105 and 180 % .Our average cost next year will be 28ppu. to break it down on a 16 amp supply if the unit pulled its maximum (which is possible when people put heaters and fridges etc in awnings) 16 x 230 volts = 3680 watts which is 3.68 units per hour X by 24 = 88.32 units per day at 28 ppu is £24-72 per van at this rate is there any wonder why sites are going metered or restricting what people use I know these are the maximum fiqures but just half usage and it is more than most parks charge. We still have the large increase for communual electric to deal with . When we toured Florida in 2011 the most I paid for a pitch was $ 88.00 per night but I was quoted $128.00 for a night on the Keys until I found something cheaper.

I don’t suppose it has anything to do with the Club wanting the bookings on their site that they are currently loosing to the CL of which they get nilch.
