Hi all, we are travelling down through France early in the new year and looking for stop overs. Has any one used Camping Car Parks and what is your opinion using for overnight stops? I believe pay £5 account set up, put credit on your account and book sites on line - does this work ok? Looks good to me as they have lots of all year sites and you have the confidence of booking sites ahead. I might be over worrying but we are traveling will be out of season. Thanks

The wifi on CCP sites is often limited to the area around the access barrier. I think they use it to monitor / control things on site so if you need wifi park as close to the barrier as possible.

We have had mixed results too.
One, had a drunk in a tent who had walked in. (Lunery) Toilet block only open in July and August. Good boulanger in village.
2, was next to a very noisy road (Le Crotoy)
3, Needed to add funds to card but no Internet. I may have been able to top up at entrance but didn't think of that until later. Can't remember location.
4. Massiac at sports ground. With power €14 all good.

We find them really useful when travelling in the winter months - they are often the only services still available. The modern bornes are heated to prevent water freezing.

I think some that may not have been upgraded will not have services but it does state on the app. We have never needed the Pack Privileges even in summer.

I use Camping carpark on all our visits to France. The system works really well, just bear in mind that most sites you will need your own toilet and washing facilities but we really like the sites they have.

We have used a few now. Quite expensive, but you do get all facilities; tap your card on the bourne post to operate. Normally WiFi as well. You don’t have to pay for the privilege option as you can book a pitch on the day of arrival. Check app for spaces, then book if only a few left.
I would order a card before going as you have time. Just easier. Then top up as you use it.
wish i had known this ,,we spent 4 hours racing up to caen to get a space watching them disappear to zero 3 miles from the site 😢

Have used CCP many times and mostly good clean sites. You may get the occasional one that needs updating or near a main road etc, but that’s the same with anywhere you stay, be it Aires, or campsites. Just so many options in France, love it !

My 2p-worth.

Used them a lot. Network is expanding quite quickly. Variable types/standards of sites but we haven't been disappointed. Being able to see spaces ahead of time is excellent. Always another not too far away if full.

Phone help system excellent, very good English and they even managed my French!

Beware of ordering card ahead of time but leaving before it arrives - it is difficult to get a new card at the first site as it is registered to your email address (or maybe phone number). We came across a Finnish chap (with limited English) with this problem, but their help people sorted it without trauma!

A card can be issued when you arrive and costs 5 euro but must be topped up with sufficient funds so you can pay as you exit.
Very simple to use - tap the key pad on entry and tap the exit point on exit - that simple.
I would recommend buying the card in UK and adding funds to it before you leave on your travels rather than fiddle at the first entry point when might be cold, wet and windy!
Agree,..apart from windy etc.if you get french or Germans queuing behind you waiting for you to get one , they're not at all patient...save any stress, get it here, and top up here...we used them this year 7 different sites and they were all spot on.....no complaints from me ...just wish that system was in uk and spain..

As above, I purchased the Le pack priviléges, well worth it especially if you are travelling some distance to your next stop, nothing worse than looking at the app in the morning, seeing availability then turning up to see that someone has beat you to it . They were all very clean and well maintained.
Agree with the privileges..book ahead and you know a place will be there..also you can leave and return as many times with the van as and if you want to....I've done it and no problems...

Another vote for CCP.
The only one of their sites I wouldn't return to is the one in the centre of Millau - scruffy and tight for anything bigger than 6m.

Yes I can see your point Lennie, your photos, which are very good btw, show exactly my point. No people, no life, no atmosphere.

Where do they all go?? 😱

Hi Rodders, we have made several trips touring through France over the last few years and have used Camping Car Parks on each trip. It depends what facilities you are content with, we are happy with a 6 amp electric, water and grey/black water disposal, we use our own shower/toilet, but if you require swim pools etc then Camping Car Parks won't suit you :giggle:

Yes, we've found that and although they promise free WiFi we came across one where it timed out after an hour with no return. Also, the 6amp EHU is a bit flaky. On two occasions when we had the Truma on for hot water, the fridge started 'hunting' on electric. Both times the CCP had quite a few vans in. Low voltage?
Nevertheless, our experience is generally good.

We found camping saint martin near millau viaduct lovely...had 2 nights there this year..you get a discount for acsi...we dont have an acsi card and mentioned it so the lady still gave us the discount..I think it was 14 euros a night with electric...

Use CCP sites occasionally but dislike the organisation.
They stop wildcamping/parking up in places where they have a site .
Company policy would appear to be to create a monopoly then bump up their prices .
For those of us who don't want organised sites they are bad news

Yes we used these last jan and will do so again this yr. You dont need to pay the extra 29 euro to have privi to book as no booking req that time of year. Very good cust service, when leaving one last year it was chucking it down and machine cldnt read our card so i called then gave my card no and name and after a cple of questions they opened the barrier. Wld recommend.

I am surprised that certain travelling groups have not found a way to hack into the CCP remote opening system for their own benefit.
nah...
they would just remove the barrier... it's only a few bolts to undue ... or cut the barrier off with an angle grinder / chainsaw .. .been done elsewhere

but no need, there are thousands of free or cheap aires with no barriers ..

They did at Arras when we were there but its run by Airepark and entry/exit by a ticket with a qr code, 3 vans on 1 ticket. CCP a different system as you need their card to access, but on the older sites they could still get water (new ones you need a card ) and they don't have toilets to empty , we were on a site at Tonnay Charente which was an old municipal site and did have a pick-up come and check it out but they never came back in the 2 days we were there.

we where recently at the ccp at Homps, in drives a uk reg land rover towing a tag axle caravan. Sign clearly stated no caravans allowed, set himself up plug in to EHU mat out , table and chairs out and a bit of washing. They then proceeded to drive the car out and park it on the outside car park and therefore incurring only the 5.50 euro service charge for being on the CCP for less than 5 hours.
We left the next morning to go down to the coast, on our return 5 days later he was still there in the same spot all set up. So obviously he was going to do the same procedure in reverse when he left, so only incurring a charge of 11.00 euros for multiple days use of the CCP. Taking the p..s or what? rang CCp to tell them they did not seem intrested at all.

I have used them the last couple of years and found them to be ok. They have to different sites some have toilet blocks and washing facilities others are just the basics. Customer service are helpful when needed. Definitely use again

The ones with facilities, toilets etc were once Municipal sites that have been bought by CCP ..many of them were in dire need of modernisation, which CCP are now doing.

The municipal site in Chateaudun is a prime example.. we were at it a few years ago and re-visited this year, it is now owned by CCP .. it has new toilet block and showers..

The aire in town by the canoe station, under the Chateau wall, has had the bourne removed and the parking area is now for cars .. no doubt this was part of the deal when CCP bought the municipal site .

That's interesting as we seem to trip the fuse on the 6A hook up's and only have fridge and hot water on...I think we established it must be hot water as although lasted longer when we tested it by switching fridge to gas, it still tripped eventually and that was overnight with no lights or sockets in use! On last site before heading to Calais we didnt bother hooking up! I have asked them to look at it when it goes in for its first service and habitation check next month to see if can find any faults as thought it was just ours.
