Hi all, we are travelling down through France early in the new year and looking for stop overs. Has any one used Camping Car Parks and what is your opinion using for overnight stops? I believe pay £5 account set up, put credit on your account and book sites on line - does this work ok? Looks good to me as they have lots of all year sites and you have the confidence of booking sites ahead. I might be over worrying but we are traveling will be out of season. Thanks

For new users like me, here is some of the info I have gathered from CCP info....
  • All reservations require the purchase of a PACK'PRIVILÈGESm including same day advance bookings
  • It is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase and will be linked to your PASS'ÉTAPES card, thus, you will not be receiving a new card.
  • You must book at least 48 hours in advance or the same day using Sécuriplace within the limit of 5 places available.
  • Reservations open 6 months before the desired date of stay, and arrivals/departures are from noon to noon.
  • If you want to make a reservation, you will have to pay by credit card. If you want to use the balance on your PASS'ÉTAPES card, you'll have to call us.
  • In order to guarantee your place if you're leaving temporarily (and for when you arrive), you'll need to book with the PACK'PRIVILÈGES to have a guaranteed place.

Thanks for all your advice about not needing the PackPrivileges. We are going in a busy time and being new to French touring, I might just buy it to be certain of having somewhere near the train for when going back to UK - I'd hate to miss it!

I'm staring to think that there are members on here who would rather see municipal Aires dissapear rather than CCP run them. I've asked this before, how many on here would be willing to pay extra on their rates to provide free or subsidized facilities for foreign tourists? If you don't why should the french?

We have never found a problem parking in France, including 7 weeks this year, without using CCP. Lots of villages and small towns have free parking or Aires.

As for 'security' on CCP, scrotes can walk around the barrier.

We'll use whatever is where we are. No problem with paying if it's where we want to be.

Wouldn't bother with the Park Privelege as never come across anywhere that's full and if it is then they'll be another aire not far away.

I'm wondering why you are starting to think that ?
Not seen a post that even suggests what you say .

You wont need it for that, the new aire in Calais it is not a CCP aire..

It's great.. good security with a gated entry, plenty of space, secure and close to the beach.. about 10 min drive to LeShuttle ..
There is also a campsite adjacent..

I have never pre booked a site, I just check available spaces before I set off. I suspect if you go at peak times their will be a chance of it being full.

It seem generally accepted that there is less enthusiasm amongst local authorities in France to subsidise local Aires. There may well be plenty left, but there aren’t as many as there used to be. CCP taking over the management of those Aires that the locals no longer wish to run means the facility stays, albeit with a slightly more realistic rise in charges.
what is wrong with a French local authority wishing to restrict wild camping, providing an alternative is there.

I can understand the local Muciple wanting to offload the running of Aire.
But I think CCP are too expensive, mainly because they charge the same for a tatty car parks as they do for a really nice Aire, also I object to paying for EHU I don't need, campsites don't charge for EHU if you don't want it.

Here are a couple of CCP I've stayed at.
First one just a car park the pic shows the best bit the other side a chainlink french.
Second one very scruffy used to be a nice free Aire.
Deffinatly not impressed with them we have stayed at far nice free & low cost Aires.

No we turned up November all water was off toilets and showers were closed about 4 vans and trailers were there Gypsies dogs on chains it was our first time with ccp so had gone thru the barrier paid 18 eu. 5 for the card from the machine and 13 for the site we weren't impressed I phone them up they were quite nice on the phone but we left within 20mins so lost our site money
You would have only been charged the 5hr rate, not the full rate.

We like the CCP Aires. They are pretty secure. You know from their description what you are getting. Not all of them have electric. Blain was one with no electric and a pretty high price. This used to be a free aire.

During our stay we were visited by a local with some tomatoes from her garden. She asked what we thought of the aire as it had only recently re opened. It turns out that this aire had been abused whilst it was free. Loud music, undesirables and long stayers. There were petitions for it to be closed down by the locals.

This lady was part of a team that wanted to keep an aire in the village but discourage certain types from using it and destroying the area. They locals and the Marie let CCP manage the site. It was renovated by them, gates installed and the local Marie set the price.

We saw a few people pull up and then leave. CCP have saved this aire as it definitely would have been shut permanently.

You ask what is wrong with restricting our choice of places to stop !
Local authorities have every right to do that , it happens all over the UK .
To think it is a good thing is , imo , utterly bizarre.

Who said it's a good thing, I was merely pointing out that from a locals point of view restricting MH parking if an alternative is available is perfectly reasonable. If you don't like CCP prices go somewhere else. Why does anybody expect the local to subsidise their holiday? I have gratefully made full use of aires over the years, and wildcamped with a 30' RV and toad, but times change. We used to go to Italy when tourist discount cards were available to counter high fuel prices. When that stopped I had a choice, pay the full rate for fuel or go elsewhere.

You asked what is wrong with restricting choice . What on earth do you think that implies ?
Again you talk as if the issue is paying CCP prices !
Struggling to see why you think the Italian petrol story is relevant ?
As you are answering my post I have to assume you are referring to statements made by myself.
Unfortunately it would appear these statements are a figment of your imagination

5 euro discount off le privilege pack until 27th November.
I've never found a need for it myself but it may be useful for some ?
