Camper NE go bust

The problem with most dealers in the north east or anywhere else seems to be the after sales. When we bought ours from Camper North East the sales side was brilliant . Mind the salesman was still P....d from Saturday night party, we had to cut test drive short before he was ill. The problem started when we had a few problems. Took it back and left it with them,14 days later rang them,is it sorted yet, yes come for it. 40 miles later, have you done everything (3 small jobs) oh no we haven’t done anything but you can take it away. That was 8 Years ago and 1 job still isn’t done. Don’t suppose it will get done now :(

Yes you would, because your finance agreement is with a separate finance company. Even if you did not have finance but for some reason still owed them money, you would still be liable as the liquidator will come after your money so they can pay off some of the money the company owes.

Company liquidators are an interesting breed. Martin worked for a company that went into liquidation and was kept on by the liquidator as he was the only director not involved with some shady dealing. Anyway he worked for the liquidator for around 4 months. Anything that could be sold was sold (he did have to alert them to several items that belonged to other people and were in the shop for repair - he spent a couple of days marking up stuff that belonged to others, phoning the owners and telling them to come and collect their property making sure to bring proof of ownership). There was stuff in the shop, not finished and part of a big contract, the people who had placed the order did not want them part finished - a very low offer was received for them and the liquidator just got rid of them as soon as possible.

Finished goods and raw materials have value and can be sold. Part worked stuff is often scrap value only - if that.

Might be a bargain for anyone wanting stuff from the shop (assuming they had one and the stock was paid for).

Towards the end of the liquidation Martin would go into work in the company car, take off his jacket and put on his overalls, grab a brush and start to sweep up. As he said he was paid for his time, the brain came free.

Did a good deal with camper ne some years ago and after sales was good would have bought from them again better than the shite in Derby town centre

Nearly bought a new Autotrail Tribute from them in October 2018 for delivery in Feb 2019. Good exchange price and 3 free habitation services plus a 2nd year Fiat service. Went home to think about it but then heard they were moving further north. Pleased I didn't take it up as I would have lost the free services.

Must apologise I got the dates wrong it was Oct 2017 for delivery I Feb 2018.

Would love to know how you know about the sales at the other dealerships. I have been looking to buy and recently visited Tyne Valley. They have undergone a big refurbishment and it seemed pretty buoyant to me. I was really impressed with their set up to be honest and the staff were really accommodating and knowledgeable. Do you have inside information that we should be aware of or is it just speculation on your part? I think local people (North East) should be supporting local businesses, not running them down.

We had a good experience when buying from Tyne Valley, but the aftersales / maintenance dept was dire. That was 4 years ago, don't know if things have changed since then.

Over the years I've bought a couple of motorhomes from Tynevalley. Reference the above post I eventually bought the Autotrail Tribute from them delivered in April 2018. They do not deal in the Tribute side of Autotrail but he contacted another dealer who did and managed to get one. I'm getting the Fiat and Habitation services done there. I was initially concerned about the Fiat servicing regarding warranty but was assured they used the correct Euro 6 oil and parts. Also they have a good relationship with a Fiat Garage at Washington where if any work is required they will take it to them for you. They have courtesy cars there if you leave your motorhome for servicing.

The only reason we go to Caterick Caravans is for egg n chips,

Thank you - that's really helpful

That works two ways IMO; i.e. the local people should indeed support the local business and the local business should support its local customers when they've supplied a pile of crap to said local customer in the first instance.

Quite easy to know about sales. Just look up the company records. Simple then to get some idea of turnover.

I thoroughly agree that NE people should support local businesses. However, those businesses have to provide a good standard of services.

Last year I bought an Elddis caravan, made locally. What a badly made horrible piece of junk it turned out to be. The list of serious and more minor build faults within the first month of use was staggering.

We bought it from Tyneside Leisure World, again a local company. The handover was nothing short of a disgrace, and it took 3 months to get the things sorted that should have been done before we collected the caravan.

Finally when things really went wrong, the parent company for Tyneside Leisure World, namely Catterick Caravans, equally local for us, behaved utterly shamefully. Total cowboys. Absolutely disgusting to try and deal with.

For further details read my review of Catterick Caravans/Tyneside Leisure World.

[QUOTE="Blue Knight, post: 3183064,
I wish not to offend anyone but IMO the NE of England has some of the worst dealers in the country and if we were to lose a couple then it wouldn't be a sad loss.[/QUOTE]

I have totally agree with you Andrew with living in the north east, I wouldn't buy anything from any of them I have visited, Marquis Birtley, Robsons, Catterick Caravans, Tyne Valley to name just a few.

I don't know what the commercial links are/were but NE & UK are separate companies under separate ownership.
NE is/was a Ltd owned by P&P Caravan Services
UK is a privately family owned company.

The main bod at P&P seems to also have another company 'Free Spirit Leisure Vehicles' which is still 'trading'...
as is
'Geist Vehicle Leisure'
They haven't..

Hi there
Just seen this thread, I bought a brand new motorhome from camper Ne in sept 17 and paid cash , turns out camper ne took out finance on my motorhome 4 month after me buying it ! I’ve logged it with the police fraud department and currently trying to sort this out with the finance company they have the finance with I’ve just noticed the liquidations details on this thread so will call them tomorrow, but I wonder how many other people are victims of this ? I would not have known if I hadn’t of done an HPI Check on my own van ! Which stayed there was finance on it !

That is worrying,,BUSBY.

Very ! I just found out about it yesterday so will call their liquidators tomorrow see if they can shed any light on where I stand ! But I’m very worried ! And the police fraud department was quite shocked this could happen ! It was brand new and only Registered to me as first owner so have not a clue how they were able to take finance out on my van !

What a shocking tale. I can understand your concerns. Don't expect much help from the liquidators. They will probably send you a proof of debt form. Which won't really do you any good.

I hope you have kept all the paperwork including the Dealer's order form and invoice, as well as proof of payment in full of the agreed price. These will be the documents that prove you are the true owner because the V5 from DVLA is not conclusive. It only shows you as the registered keeper, not owner.

You were not a party to the fraudulent finance agreement unless you were duped into signing it, but even then the validity of such an agreement would be in doubt and unlikely to be enforceable against you because as a consumer statutory requirements also need to be complied with and if you had no knowledge of this transaction such requirements are unlikely to have been carried out. Assuming the finance was taken out some time after you completed your purchase, your prior ownership rights should prevail. It looks as though the finance company cannot claim against you personally, but in the circumstances you have outlined, you should have strong grounds to defend such a claim. If the finance company tries it on and sends you a demand for repayment of their loan, or even tries to repossess your motorhome, you should refuse to hand over the keys or let their agent take possession, and go to a solicitor ASAP.

If info is accurate, you gave nowt to worry about
I would limit your conversations to the finance company and get them to remove their interest, in writing, under threat of legal
If the HPI report mentions “ stock financing” that may be more complicated but you will still be able to get title

Shocking tale.

Hope it works out for you.

I guess this dealer was also breaking money laundering laws by accepting cash. Hope that the authorities don’t descend on the purchaser due to dealer not trading now!

The agreement type states unit stocking ?
So that is their “stockplan”
They borrowed money to keep the vehicle in stock
They sold to you, took your money and didnt pay the finance stocker back

Speak to a solicitor - TODAY
You need to claim good title today, finance company's debtor is the dealer, you have paid dealer

I'm involved with the Camper NE fiasco as a creditor. The depth of fraud and deceit is very disturbing to everyone purchasing motorhomes. It has been so very easy for this company to obtain money in anyway they wanted and do so with great ease.
I've known the management for many years and have traded with them without worry.
This has opened my eyes to how these men have manipulated and cheated without batting an eye.
Good luck with your case.

I have sent all proof of purchase bank statements sales receipts etc to the finance company , I will call the liquidators and get legal advise today , the fact that they only took finance out on my van 4 months after I bought it should stand for something ? Hoping anyway ! I have now joined this site so can can you posted , and likewise please .

Guess they hijacked the real P&P caravan site

Hi, last year I had dealings with Floud Motorhomes, advertising a cheep campervan, got suspicious after they replied to my emails without answering any of my questions, so did some research and found they had hacked the real Floud motor homes. Then they disappeared, only to surface again a couple of weeks later as P&P Caravans, exactly the same same site as Floud, vehicles, staff ect all the same, said registered office Newcastle.
Cheap
