MH
Hymer B704 PL
Exp
Since 2017
I own a Hymer B704 PL 2017 and it has nearly 17K on the clock.

The MH is now 6 years old and it has not had a cam belt change yet.

Fiat state cam belt change at 5 year or 100K miles (or maybe 100K Km)

I have joined Nationwide Flex Plus for the breakdown cover after being covered by Driver Guardian for the last year.

I personally don’t think it is necessary to have the cam belt changed yet due to the low mileage but a check of the T&Cs on breakdown cover changed my mind.

The MH is booked in with Adams Morley for a cam belt change before we catch the ferry in January.

I am booked in with Adams Morley (Fiat) and have been given a price of £1200 inc VAT for cam belt change. They were very helpful over the phone.

I will get a quote today from Spitfire garage, Southampton and the Cambelt Centre, Ferndown as alternatives.

Again, thank you for your assistance.

I saw this on the FIAT website which maybe of interest to those who haven't seen it. Follow this link & click on maintenance

Thank you for this.

I have now booked the van in with another garage (non Fiat dealer) who have quoted me half that of the Fiat dealer to change the cam belt.

They were recommended by another Funster and have great reviews. Fingers crossed.

Hello all, anybody recommend a good garage in the West Midlands area for a cam belt?

Hey, just for info… AEG in Stourbridge quoted £1k, and Kieron at calibre said he only does home visits now he’s just given up his garage and I’m outside his area. Both were helpful.

Sorry about that but not surprising really elway thing's are, bloody government don't know their ars from their elbow 🙈 Just glad I retired in March when I gave my unit up £1,000 a month, was getting very difficult to cover the cost's, so I feel for Kieron as know he work's hard, but don't blame him for not travelling to far, life's to short 🙏 Regards Sammy . . .

Yeah the guy who used to do my car also retired last month - ran a great garage, but it wasn’t cost effective enough for somebody to take it on as a going concern. Nother one bites the dust.

I know a garage down this way, not far from Tewkesbury.

They deal with horse boxes and your car and Land Rover stuff.

Might be worth a call if you’re happy to travel down the M5.

I don’t recommend many places but these are good 😊

We had our owned from new 2019 van’s belt changed at the 4 year major service, as we hope to be in Portugal winter 2024 so would be away at the 5 year recommended time. It was done by Adams Morley excellent service from them.
The possible trouble with a non Fiat authorised garage is if the belt should break who is to blame the non Fiat one may blame the belt the belt supplier may blame the garage. With the Fiat one you should have some comeback? You pay your money and take your choice.

Some people complain about his manner, I myself have always found him to be ok. You are not going to him for therapy you are going to get your motorhome worked on by someone who knows what he is doing at a fair cost.

G'day
It's time for the TravelVan to get a new belt. Phoned several garages including the nearest Fiat Professional and so far only got one quote which did not include the water pump (they said they've never had one fail so would have to quote for that additionally). Several promises to phone back but still waiting. Anyone recommend a good place within an hours drive of Shepton Mallet that can take a 7m motorhome in need of cambelt change?
