Bye Bye CAMC

I rarely use the CAMC sites but stay with CAMC for the CL's and the Red Pennant foreign travel insurance

Ditto, but resent CMC being the gate keepers for CLs.
I’ve had a few quotes from Red Pennant for overseas breakdown cover, but they’ve never been event slightly competitive compared to comparable alternatives.

Some years ago staying at the Killin site after coming back from eating out about 8.30 pm it was hammering down with rain and quite dark being autumn . I in by mistake drove the wrong way down the road system. next thing we knoow is a banging on the door with the warden telling us what we had done. He must have put his wet gear on and jumped on his pop-pop motorbike to tell us off. when we told other wardens about this he was well known for being a A......e.

Give a man a pair of green trousers and the power goes to their head! 😆

The only reason we joined the camc again was to qualify for cheaper Mayday breakdown cover for the moho. Mind you, in the last 3 weeks I've saved £53 when buying batteries and a ferry crossing to NI using their discount code from the members offers, so I've more or less got my money bsck.

The wardens seem to be a particular type of person though.....a lot of ex old bill perhaps?

Referring back to the OP, at least your friends from Newcastle parked up safely, but didn't have to pay £35-£40 for the night....I hope
"The wardens seem to be a particular type of person though.....a lot of ex old bill perhaps?"

Go on, I'll bite. What makes you say that out of all the CAMC sites you've visited? Apparently.

I resent that remark, I am “Old Bill” 😜

Blimey, talk about delayed reaction.

Now let me recap, I'll get my pocket book out?

It seems m'lud that my pocket book does not record the incident, but I do recall interacting with certain persons of a somewhat regimented and authoritarian demeanour who appeared to be fanatical about enforcing rules, as they were accustomed to doing so in their previous working life?

But, I can assure you m'lud that I have visited CAMC sites and witnessed this behaviour.

Blimey, some chips are easily dislodged off certain shoulders :unsure:

As a real green newbie to motorhoming, but with some camping and caravan experience of quite a few years, I called in at Ferry Meadows CMC site for a quick look, bit if advice on pricing and pitch availability.
I was not a member, but a member of the C and CC.
I was in my car only, and in my work suit and tie, and parked in a safe and correct area and went to the office to seek my answers rather than just waltzing in and having a nosey.
You would think by their attitude , and especially as a member of , in their words, “ the dark side” that I was some sort of social piriah.
I asked about plot layouts, ehu, fully serviced pitches etc and was met with a question about my van.
Soon as I explained it was a motorhome, 20 years old, in good condition and without an awning, the reply back was shocking.
“We put the older vans towards the rear of the site” said they.
“Oh, why”? Said I.
“It keeps the site looking neater”!
I was about to literally give them an absolute download of an argument, but realised that these poor, unfortunate, self- effacing, legends in their own lunchtimes were just a bunch of arrogant, ill prepared , judgemental pillocks.
So I just smiled ( that confused them😊) walked to my car and drove home, muttering under my breath that they must certainly bank with barclays!
Absolutely the wrong sort of persons running what looked like quite a nice site of what bit I saw.
I will not pleasure their booking system with my custom, ever.
Not everyone has a brand new, shiny, top of the range, dogs doo-da’s of a caravan or motorhome, and all should be treated equally.
I left secure in the knowledge that at least I actually own my van and its fully paid for, but they wont have the pleasure of it visiting.
Absolute disgrace and they dont seem to have moved on much in their attitudes frim when I caravanned with my parents in the late 70’s and as a family in the late 80’s and well into the 90’s / 2000’s.

Had it been a CCC site I could understand it, they allocate pitches... but any CAMC sites I have been to..(admittedly not many) you book in and they say "go pick your pitch" and come back when you set up and let us know what your pitch number is!

Spot on, I've never had an allocated pitch in thirty odd years of using CAMC sites. If the story is true, it strikes me the wardens may have been having a spot of, perhaps ill-judged, sport at the poster's expense!

It wasnt the comment about where they put you so much as their total attitude of aloofness, rudeness and lack of empathy, compassion and plain old professionalism and customer service.
It was as if I was an irritent to their extremely busy schedule of rearranging the pamphlets and tourist guides in their retail mecca of a shop/ reception area.
Numptys!

I quite often get an allocated pitch due to the size of the RV.
Often it's unnecessary, as long as there's about 8' behind the pitch I can fit on any standard size.

It is very true!
And as for a spot of sport at my expense, why?
I was polite, courtious, and would have liked to have booked if I had been a member, dates were available etc.
But their total attitude was , in my opinion, apalling.

Can you confirm that your pocket book contains contemporaneous notes made at the time ? 😈 if. If not then it didn’t happen 😜

Can’t speak for all wardens at all CAMC sites, but the relatively few ive been to, Broadway, Peterborough, Wrexham, Brecon, recently have all been really helpful and polite.

guess you will get all sorts of characters, and certainly no excuse for treating the OP as described.

Yes it did. But as in so many instances, pocket book entries, or lack of, seem to bear no resemblence to the true facts as they occur.

I still have an issue with their crap website….. I complained and got patronised in reply. Useful for their CL’s though

"Or immediately after." (Somethings will never dislodge, will they!)

The MotorhomeClub had CLs as well as CAMC and the CCC has them but under another name
