WANTED Brompton

Main change for 2017 is the UNDER bar gear shifters. I think the chain tensioner rollers are changed too
Don't weigh much and will be lighter still when I fit my bits.:D

She at the moment doesn't want one but we'll see when she's had a go in a safe place

She is like me I only like to bike on cycle tracks don't feel that safe on busy roads!

Innit ickle :p
I've had some quality control issues to put right.
Out of the box
1 rear mudguard and stays had been distorted presumably in transit so it was hard against the wheel preventing rotation.
2 the derailleur cable was not tensioned enough so not changing gear
3 handlebars were not fitted centrally
4 steerer catcher bracket on front fork was loose and free to rotate
5 both brake calipers not adjusted for equal pad contact
I emailed Brompton with these issues

Awesome @Techno!

I didn't know about the new gear levers - presume they work in the same way as the old 6 speed (or really 2x3speed) set up?

Ours have not arrived yet, but are hopeful of them arriving before 12 October as we're off to Edinburgh for a few days and they'd be useful there!

Love the colour too.

May you have many miles of pleasure

Same way but more intuitive. Brompton also say it frees up handle bar space. The shifters are the same each side and integrated with the brake levers.
Speaking of which I've adjusted my brakes for shorter reach and comfort.

Here as delivered and with foam grips
Brake levers at full stretch

Here with Ergon grips and shorter reach

Another aspect of the new shifters that I think Brompton have overlooked is that it now enables easier maintenance as no bike stand is needed

That's extra cool. We've gone for M handlebars, not sure they'd be as stable upside down as the S.

I was already unbelievably excited, and even more so now I've seen your pictures and write ups

Should be the same as only the bar grips contact the ground. I think M bar are only 3" higher as they use a shorter stem

Those tyres look very clean still haven't you gone on a test drive yet?

Tomorrow. Just been round the block

First few yards felt twitchy as hell but within 50yds it felt natural and super responsive GREAT FUN :D

I think there might be some heavy discounting going on to clear stocks of old style shifters once the new ones are well known about.

Extras Andy? Why have you bought a seat post rubber bung when one comes as standard with the bike? Just asking!!!
I've discovered that the seat post bung is not standard but unique to models with racks. It is meant to act as a brake when in contact with the floor to prevent it rolling away when folded.
It comes with the EEzy wheel kit for the same purpose.

Yes Bromptons are brilliant bikes. Also the gear ratios don't overlap like most combination gears do.

And just to bring it down to earth: you probably don't need this advice but maybe others do.

1. Get a good lock.
2. Use it.
3. Always.

Last year I had a Brompton stolen in Seville within armslength while sitting at an outside table of a cafe. They are very sought after and very saleable. Everywhere from Cadiz to Berlin people stop to look at a Brompton, especially with the back wheel folded.

Very pleased that your bike has arrived Andy. I think that it will not only meet your expectations but will exceed them.

Janet's should be here week beginning 10th October.

Good luck with that mine was over a week later than their longest estimate

That will look tasty Rex (y)
Been too busy today and had to stay in for deliveries. So I treated the Brooks saddle with the supplied sachet having read the user guide. I realised that Brompton have not supplied the tensioning spanner (naughty) that normally comes with a Brooks B17 special edition.
So I bought a maintenance kit with free delivery

I went on-line to the Ikea store and bought one of their big plastic zip bags with handles and guess what - my Brompton just fits inside and makes it good for transporting if it gets muddy!
