WANTED Brompton

No swapping! Cable lengths are customised. Yes if its a bespoke order it will have the new shifters

No problem: swap the cables as well!

Yes, it's bespoke order, many more than one spoke in the wheels though, I think!

What! She's already got me, the BEST, don't you know? You make me feel guilty though so she can keep the bl**dy new shifters!

Janet has now got her new Brompton and it has the new style shifters. Frankly, I prefer the old style ones Andy.

Well @Techno, as I posted a few weeks ago, your post inspired me to finally commit to a pair of Brompton, which we finally picked up yesterday.

Initial impressions are favourable, seem a bit twitchy compared to a normal bike but seemed to get used to it fairly quickly. Seem to be a well made/well engineered bit of kit and ideal for what we want to use them for in the MH. Have the new gear arrangements too.

A couple of pictures attached for Bromptonites

Ohhhhhh .... I've just GOTTA get one of those ... since I sold my little Smart car that was that colour I seriously need something cheery to replace it even though we've got the black Smart now I still miss my little Perky (aka the Flying Plum) ...

I've just determined my optimum saddle height and fitted the seat post device that limits the extension to the correct height every time. Fitted the ti post too
Next weekend I will ride it up cragg road the longest continuous accent in England

@milliethehymer
I hope you've liberally fingered your brooks with the proofhide? I found it very therapeutic  so much so that I bought a tin.
The underside is quite a test to apply it everywhere

@Techno - will be massaging the saddle today...Swmbo for some reason doesn't want me fondling her seat though

Lovely! Is the blue bike one of the black editions?

All you need now are a couple of Brooks saddles..

Enjoy!

Yes, the blue one is a "Black Limited Edition". Thank you for your wish for us to "Enjoy", we will do our best.

We never considered a Bompton until we saw Techno's posts and decided to try one. We were shocked and surprised how easy they were to pedal and ride, in our opinion, easier than a big wheeled bike so we were hooked.

They are light and fold up so small too and fit in the back of our Globecar with ease. Although our folding electric bikes fit in the back too, they are a pain to get out and build up, and are much heavier. In the event they get little use because of this.

Brooks saddles? We don't think so, we are very happy with the Brompton ones - at the moment! In the future: who knows?

Just another couple of snaps showing how easy the bikes are to load in the back of our Globecar PVC. They are out and up in no time and just as quick to take down and put away. Fantastic!

No need to lock them up when you go in a bar/cafe etc. Just pop the cover on, take them inside and pop them under the table!

I rode an old Bickerton (like the one below) the other day at a car boot sale it wasn't bad but I certainly wouldn't want to go any distance on one!

I used to have a Madison which was very unusual ... it had a bit of 'give' when it was ridden due to the rubber joints ... never seen one since!

Wow a rare Bickerton. what a smashing example. If I had been there I would have bought it for SpeedyDuxette.

I still have my Bickerton that I bought new in 1983. Only 10kg with the 3-speed hub. Is that lighter or heavier than an equivalent Brompton? It certainly folds down to a similar compact size and mine has a carrying bag that doubles as a shopping bag that sits across the handlebars.

Downside is that the aluminium frame does flex a bit but you get used to that. A trade-off for light weight.

First time away in the van since brommie arrived.
I reckon I could squeeze a peloton of them in the garage

Stayed at Lyndon Top Rutland Water last weekend. Rode our Brommies but not all the way round! Found the tough stony track a bit hard going but all forgiven when we got to the tarmac bit.

I hope to photograph mine parked at the reservoir atop cragg vale tomorrow

There was a PVC on the left near to the wire fence as you go in through the gate, I went to the far end of the field next to fence

Great place to chill out!

That sounds like us. Lovely place, we picked it as close to our friends who live in a North Luffenham. Hope they didn't disturb you when they dropped us back after our meal out, they are not used to campsite etiquette and I'm afraid the poor caravan occupants got a headlight blast and a noisy goodbye.
