Brittany Ferries reintroduce mask wearing on board

No. For anyone vulnerable it's essential that the rest of us wear masks. Masks aren't there to protect the wearer.
No matter how many times this is made clear, some folk still believe they are safe with a face covering..

So, does that mean that you can go into a cafe or shop and expect those who do advocate masks to avoid you.? Surely you should be doing all the avoiding?
Not at all, if you're at high risk, ie the minority, you should be restricting your movements

Yes it's very unfortunate but why should the minority dictate rules for the majority

We returned from Spain on the 27th of June and masks were no longer required to be worn on board ship. Arrived home with what appeared to be a cold, but advised to test for covid and sure enough myself and wife both tested positive.
Notified the relevant department of this and had a follow up call from NHS wales because of our age, who wanted further details and notified them of our return trip with BF’s.
The Spanish were more careful and wore masks in some areas, if masks were not worn properly you would be told off by someone to wear it correctly.

Oh, and please stick to your FFP2 masks and leave the FFP3 for trades people to protect themselves, rather than some belief that these are making a difference rather than stripping the shelves bare

Not safe. Safer.
Nothing is 100% safe, but it has been abundantly evidenced that wearing a good one is better than not wearing anything.

I'd rather use one and reduce my chances of catching Covid.

No need if you are that worried just dont go near us who want to live our lives, you know who we are we are not wearing a mask simples?

I am no longer that worried. I am fully jabbed and would now expect to recover fully should I get a bout of it. But that isn't the issue. It isn't you avoiding me, or vice versa.

The problem is that you might get infected, and go on to infect someone who infects someone who infects someone, etc, etc, etc. That person may be the guy two behind me in the checkout queue, coughing his arse up all over everyone. Someone in that chain of infection might die or be really ill. Me wearing a proper mask and maintaining distance means that I reduce the chances of becoming a vector for onward infection.

I remember the AIDs advert of last century, which shows a pretty girl and a handsome guy getting down to it on a one night stand. Every time she opens her eyes, she sees a different person above her, signifying the chain of unknown sex partners that the bloke has been in. It's the same principle.

It's not about "me", it's about "us". Unless, that is, you are happy living in a little bubble of self-obsession. Masks always were more about reducing the risk of spreading infection than they were about protecting against catching it and are, in my opinion, simply a statement of concern for others.

That is factually incorrect.
The carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon and unused oxygen all gets though the mask weave.
So do you breath in the same amount of oxygen wearing a mask?

Surely the mask presents a slight restriction to air flow. No filter can work without some pressure differential.

Might be splitting hairs but I reckon a mask could cause a slightly elevated CO2 level and reduced O2 inside the mask.

No and No

However I reckon the difference would be small. Your rate of respiration is governed by CO2 so I reckon your breathing rate and heart rate will rise slightly with a mask.

I think any difference will be smaller than the effect of anxiety and stress of wearing a mask. That's what causes the feeling of claustrophobia.

I hate the things and I reckon they make no difference, but it's just my view and each to their own. If BF make it a rule then I would comply.

Never had anxiety or stress.

My feelings exactly. Can’t stand the things and still not convinced they make much difference.

It doesn’t actually reduce the oxygen levels, it’s psychological so some people get anxious and then can have a panic attack which is why in exceptional cases people will get an exemption. They think they can’t breathe but they could really.

I heard that it reduces the oxygen level hence some people cannot wear them. If it doesn't effect anything then why is anybody exempt

It definitely, totally and completely does NOT reduce the amount of oxygen. It's a social media BS story, like flat earth, sasquatch etc.

The amount of oxygen in the air is pretty constant and the weave on the mask does not prevent the oxygen allotrope, dioxygen (O2) from being breathed in. Its size is measured in nanometers and the weave of any mask will not restrict O2 from getting through.

Wearing a mask that is of a quality enough to reduce your chances of getting infected, requires the muscles that make your lungs expand and contract, to work slightly harder. The brain thinks OMG, there isn't enough air and so starts to worry. The need to work harder comes from water vapour being caught by the mask. The virus lives in water vapour or droplets, which is how the mask works (depending on the quality of the mask). Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon & Carbon Dioxide molecules and allotropes are so small that they pass through a mask without issue.

The reason why some are exempt is that some people with more limited lung function, or restricted airways, might be advised to not make their lungs work harder, but for most people it's actually good to make your lungs work a little bit harder. That's why people go running or walking. You can buy things that force the issue as a type of fitness trainer. Swimmers use them a lot.

For goodness sake! I ask again. How do surgeons and dentists operate when they have to wear masks most of the time in their jobs! Just think about it, they would become hypoxic and confused as oxygen deprivation kicks in. But they don't! Because masks do not stop oxygen getting it! Or do some of you believe that other components in air can get in, but not oxygen? Our Air Ambulance pilots and crew wore masks the whole time they were with their colleagues, no one felt the effects of oxygen starvation. As DDJC has said, that myth belongs of Facebook and YouTube for the conspiracy theorists!

Did Honest Boris tell us to wear masks? :lipssealed:
....the same one that didn't party during lockdown? :roflmto:

Yes he did. Along with every single person who is actually qualified to comment about it. These experts didn't pick up their scientific knowhow off Tiktok or Faceberk.

I don't get the relevance of his integrity (or lack of it) to the subject?

Here we go Arm Chair Experts again....... I am currently isolated in hospital having Cancer surgery.... no visitors ( been a week now) masks at all times, and the wingers are moaning about a short ferry trip...... I'll swap !!!!!!.... but of course I'm a minority, so I'll shut up.

Basically it proves all along that he knew it wouldnt make any difference otherwise he wouldn't have had the parties and they would have all been working from home like the rest of us. Who had to he and his cronies where not bothered at all.

Not really sure what you mean. The experts said mask wearing (of a sufficient FFP) would make a difference. So did Boris. What happened then was Boris ignored it.

That doesn't add anything to the argument of whether masks are effective, it only adds to the argument that Boris behaved badly.

Why didn't they tell us in the past to wear masks for flu that would probably have save 1000s of lives?

Maybe. I imagine mask technology wasn't as good in previous epidemics. Things will have moved on, even since Swine Flu in 2009.

It means that if they really thought it was that deadly they wouldnt have even been in the same room as each other unless they are all completely stupid. But I suppose that is a possibility. Given what's going off at the minute lol

Nah it cause they know it. Makes very little difference in the scheme of things
