*BREAKING NEWS* France to move off amber plus - other countries to green

Thanks for the report - we'd considered doing that too, just to make things easier coz I don't really want to waste precious holiday time faffing around finding and going to a test site. Glad to hear it all worked ok - just ordered our tests (y)
I’ve not caught up with my own thread yet. What tests are you ordering, where from and how much please ?.

Now that France is accessible, what is the latest on overnights at Cite Europe. ?
Currently, with the last information available, it is not allowed.

However if you were to stay there for the night, right opposite the gendarmes, the night before you return, you will have a huge target on your back for migrants to chance their arm, and I suspect the Border agents will know you will have stayed there as well owing to you probably being the only one in the car park opposite the Gendarmes, which may cause you to lose all the wine scattered tactically around the van !

Staying a good half hour away from Calais is a no brainer the night before a return imho

I m with you and also ned to understand how this photo thing works.

I think you just pick up the free tests from any chemists then use them for return then send off a photo to the powers that be that show your test as negative. But would need to understand the absolute ins and outs at a later date

You can't use the free NHS test for travelling (even if the process is exactly the same!). We've ordered these which we will use to do our tests before coming home. They're the same ones Landy Andy used. £29 each - which is a few £s more expensive than having it done in France, but its less hassle than having to find somewhere to test wherever we happen to be. I'm happy to pay a bit extra for convenience ;)

That makes perfect sense to me.

Especially as there is the possibility that there will be an announcement (hopefully there wont be) that france goes to Amber+ in 3 days time and I might be 2 days travel away and need to get back to beat a quarantine. I can just go to the cupboard, get the test out, do it and start travelling whilst wife adjusts the eurotunnel booking

Many thanks for this and the link and Landy Andy for trying it out

Yes that's another good reason too!

So you send the testers the photos?

Perhaps I am missing something here! I have also been looking at the 2 day home testing PCR kits and it appears to be a bit of a mare. You are required to order several days in advance with a non refundable payment up front, then drop off at the nearest drop box to your location and in my case that's 25 miles away. There is the possibility to return via s courier service but I suspect that is so additional payment with the testing company taking no responsibility for this service. I'm leaning towards buying the cheapest 2 day testing available knowing there is a high risk the process will not be completed by the testing company. I would appreciate recommendations as I just googled cheapest 2 day PCR test and got a couple for under £50.0 each but you have to jump through hoops.

Don't think you need a PCR test, antigen will do.

No! Upon returning to the UK from France a 2 day PCR test is required. That's correct as of this message, no doubt by tomorrow morning a full rectal examination and DNA test will be required.

More thanks Landy Andy . This seems the best option for entry back into the UK. Can you suggest a similar good and reasonable price option for the day 2 PCR test. As I understand it these have to be booked before you return to the UK so presumably you can do this before your trip but do you take it with you or rely on it arriving in the first couple of days when you get back?

Wow 25 miles, I live in the sticks and have 3 drop off post boxs within 3 miles from were I live, my experiences of these tests is get the cheapest all anyone is interested in is that you have the order number entered on the locator form.
No it isn't A pcr is "advised" to be taken but a lateral flow is perfectly acceptable to enter the Uk.

I think Phil is referring to the 2 day PCR test required after entering the UK

sorry I meant to post link with last reply

There may be some confusion here! After entering the UK from Frsnce a 2 day PCR test is required. If leaving Spain for the UK and your fully vaccinated a PCR test is advised before crossing but not mandated.

I can find no reference anywhere referring to France as any different to any other Amber list country after the rules change on the 8th.

What we did/are doing.

For the test before returning to the UK.
A lateral flow test from c19testing at £29. Inc next day postage
Buy test at any time and can take it with you. Just do the test in your own time and photo the result next to your passport, send that to them. They then email you a certificate.

Day 2&8 PCR test by expert medical. £70 plus & £8 postage (£78 is the pair of tests) or £28 plus £8 postage for single test.
Pre order and don’t do anything with test till required, apart from use numbers on the required forms.
Then. Go online register the test with them. Open packet shove cotton bud to back of throat, then up nostril. Poke cotton bud in tube. Seal tube writing info on tube, tube in bag. Write info on bag. Put bag with tube in provided postage bag. Apply their label take to postbox. Then forget all about because no one cares what happens with your day 2 Test.

We are doing a 5 day pay money, go to work sooner test. We are going to our local airport for these as they work 24/7, so can get tested and a result the same day even though it’s a Sunday. That way we only loose three day work at home. Two companies doing it one about £60 each, other £90 each (faster)

Any more info wanted just ask.

Looks like the UK will be off the Netherlands list of Very high risk countries after the 8th of August, might get our ferry to Rotterdam yet.
