Big van jealousy... or is it

Opposite for me. I look at the little PVC and want one. But just not practical, for our use, as the wife keeps pointing out. We are only just over 7m, but would love something half the size, and preferably 4 wheel drive. I hate the biggen’s.

About 5yrs ago when wintering in Spain, I saw this rig at Marjal. It's been back there since. It was the first time I clapped eyes on a Centurion and mighty impressive it was too.
The number plate was the word - FREEDOM. Apparently you can have any plate you like in Belgium as long as it's not offensive.
The rear garage contained a new Honda Goldwing and the trailer a new Ferrari FF.
The battery pack weighed best part of 800 kilos!
The compete rig was €1m.
Terry
that cost a few quid....MAN TGX XXL too, only the largest cab in europe and they've grafted the air kit into the roof. wow

Obviously the man had a big motorhome but still has to hang his towels on the fence like us plebs!!!?
Its nice not having to if you have a built in washer drier ;)
Our first trip to France, we were with a Caravan Club thingee. We had parked up and were enjoying a cuppa, when this huge RV pulled in across the track from us.

A young fella got out, with a remote, zzzzzt down came the auto levelers, zzzzt , up comes the Sat dish and twirled around a bit till locked on, zzzzt Blinds were drawn, zzzzt out rolled the awning.

I must admit, me with my G reg Pilote760 A class was gobsmacked!
I went over and said "Mate that's some piece of kit you have there!"

Any way we got talking , and over the week we were there we had a yarn or three, and he seemed, well I thought so anyway, a dinkum fella.
On our last day we were packing up, he came across and thanked us, for taking the time to "talk to him" he said "not many people talk to him on sites he has been to" they seem to avoid him.
Its surprising but that is so true , when traveling in my Landy camper

used to get lots of interaction , when in the RV

had to initiate myself , quite often when they were trying to pass by and having a sneaky peak in :)

We have just finished touring around Brittany in ours. I struggled to get our 7.5 meter van through some old ancient villages and through narrow roads and to wild park up for the night. No chance with something like that.

Each to their own but can honestly say after having bigger vans and smaller vans there's no point having bigger than you need you just carry more shit

If you need that much room for 1 or 2 people be better just staying at home.

You pays yer money...

Personally - I am looking for a largish first MH... just seems to have what I want.

Seen a big rig on the Aire we where on the other day big tag axle thing. Was going to get a pic and ask if any knew make and model. But the trouble they had parking. And the narrow streets they drove down thought flip to that. It's got to take the fun out of driving Our 7.2mtr is well big enough.

I've seen a couple of 45 footers on the road. (5ft over the legal limit I believe) . Great when they are on site, but often a scary ride to get there. :D

Its width that is the killer though and both vans in the OP are a lot narrower than mine :D

12M is the largest "allowed" I beleive. (39ft 5" ish). My last (UK) R-V was 32ft. Whilst some access was "interesting". I never really found the length an issue. At one time we towed a 15ft bed Trailer with a car on too!.

Nothing compared to the size of some of the US one`s. 48ft with 4 slideouts on 3 axles, and on one camp-ground towing a massive 3 axle trailer. Containing a car a boat on a jack up rack above it and a small but well equipped workshop?. Many are built on the same chassis as the Greyhound buses. However many are "full timers" who travel the length of the USA to rallies ans to winter in the sun.

At Saumur, we came back to our van to find that next door. They then put out their awning plus a pop up and there were only the two of them! They only stayed 2 nights, we felt very insignificant.

Think he was a motorbike track racer. Had motorbike in pieces in the back compartment. All the gubbins
Yup.. bike racer.. we had the same rig, workshop for 3 bikes and all the rest of the stuff you need, most of them on converted Iveco's and Atego's that have been to the moon and back.. both of ours had over 400k on them when we got rid. Ok if you are doing UK only stuff, but we do European events , so you are on your own across the water.

Conversions are sketchy, loads of 'self build' put a caravan in a Lorry types, or plywood and carpet , which is cheap as chips to do, or bespoke professional ones that are gin palaces and totally over the top for the purpose. At least its plain and not signwritten.

I’ve got 6.5 metres and I tow it, I have more space than in the RV, plus I can park it up and travel about with the kids in the car(y) (y) (y)

And the fuel consumption!
Our Iveco would do 18MPG fully loaded ( and that's fully loaded , as in full , not ay 7.5t) . My Euramobil 8.10 gets 22max. Not a deal breaker.. and pulling a trailer , its even worse.

My other half would be quiet happy to stay at home. If I died today then the van would be up for sale tomorrow.
