Berated in a disabled parking space by socilaist misfits!

" If the badge holder has a driver then the badge holder is supposed to be taken to a place of safety (I would say unloaded but that is not a nice way to put it) whilst the driver parks the car in a "normal" space."

That's not always either practicable or desirable nowadays .
 
Remember too, not all disabilities are visible. You do not have to be on crutches or in a wheelchair in order to need to be able to park near to toilet facilities.

Several years ago, after one of our daughters broke her hip aged 14 she went with Paul to our local Tesco one day. He parked the convertible, private plated Mercedes in the disabled bay closest to the door, got out and walked around to help Charlotte out. The security chappie started walking over to him to remonstrate but when he saw the crutches being brought out of the boot offered to bring a wheelchair to the car for her to use. That’s customer service.
Recently my mum had a knee replacement and a temporary blue badge would have been a boon. I think temporary blue badges are a good idea for people with short term disabilities eg after an operation etc but understand why they’re not issued.
 
The blue badge can make such a difference to those with visible or non visible disabilities be them mental or physical.

It can be the difference between them being housebound or getting out. It can mean they can work rather than sit at home claiming benefits.

For those diagnosed with a terminal illness anything to make their remaining time easier has to be a good thing.

There are a lot of people who choose to have as normal life as possible and keep their disabilities as hidden as possible. Its better than sitting at home or in a hospital wasting their lives.

The Blue badge costs a small amount compared to paying out benefits for not working and makes a huge difference for many people.

In your opinion of course. any person would think that of me if they saw me getting out of my car in a disabled spot. But I will swop them my disability and blue badge at anytime t.

I wonder how many members on here are blue badge holders but feel they should not mention it as they don't look disabled and after some of the posts in this thread they are keeping the fact quiet.
 
What really rattles my cage is when the likes of Hemel Hempstead Hospital paint an ordinary size bay yellow, stick up a sign and call it disabled parking. Without the extra space to the side to open the car door and bring around the wheelchair, it’s bloody useless. :banghead:

I have a lot of sympathy for the situation you found yourself in. However, the trouble with your original post, and this one, is that it contains as much bias, bigotry and intolerance as the people you were dealing with.

You let your assumptions cloud what was a very real point, that there are those who are intolerant of those who don't fit their view of 'deserving causes'. But clumping them all together into socialist tree hugging jealous misfits with inferiority complexes just weakens the argument.

In life, I've found that those who say "In life I've found that those who say/do are....." have never heard of confirmation bias, ladder of inference and filters. But since I've just been guilty of it myself, perhaps you're right!

But I doubt it.

As Robert did not engage with them any further than he mentioned in the OP, he made an assumption and even if they were not as he assumed, they were jumping to conclusions based on nothing other than the car he was driving. So although you have sympathy for the situation (thank you for that) he found himself in, trying to pick apart his view on these people is really not of any relevance, so counter productive and straying from the point of the post in the first place.
The day we are all perfect is the day to give in!

No ones claiming to be perfect, or expecting you to be. I’m sure most on here are sympathetic, I certainly am as I said. However, when you lump groups together in the way you did, don’t be surprised if people express an alternative opinion.

Fortunately, we haven’t yet reached the stage where sycophancy is a requirement of membership. So I can sympathise with how you were treated, without necessarily agreeing with how you generalised everyone. Their ‘hatred’ of your car could be due to many reasons, none of which you know. I’m not picking apart his opinion, but as he offered it freely, it’s reasonable that some may disagree with how he expressed it.

That’s what forums are for.

The fact remains that they made an assumption but Robert made one based on their attitude and I don't blame him, they laid themselves wide open for it. BUT when all is said and done they made their opinion clear based on nothing more than a car! Robert's was based on their behaviour.

Years ago there was a lotus eclat in my garage with an orange badge on it, a ‘bad back merchant ‘ benefit claiming sponger/part time cash taxi driver saw it and started ranting about a ‘disabled badge on a car like that’

It was a good friends car and his eight year old son was terminally ill and derived great pleasure from being taken out in his dads lotus, his wheelchair just fitted in the boot and thanks to the badge they could park near to where they were going.
The taxi driver spent the next ten minutes against a wall with me explaining the situation in very plain language whilst jabbing him in the chest with my finger.
He apologised profusely.
About ten years ago my then young teenage daughter badly broke her hip and was on crutches for months, one evening we went to tesco and I parked my new mercedes convertible with a proper 1 numberplate in a disabled bay (we had no blue badge) the store security guard made a beeline for us until I walked around and opened the passenger door, The moment he saw the crutches he said
‘Would you like me to get a wheelchair ?’
I said ‘yes please but I sorry we have no blue badge’ he said ‘It doesn’t matter she can’t walk !’

I’ve had nice cars and a vanity plate for years , I just give then a vacant sort of look as if I’m completely unaware of their problem when I get road rage and ignore it.
 
I agree, not all disabilities are visible. Take me for instance, I parked in a disabled space in ASDA last week. The parking attendant shouted "hoy you, what's your disability?" So I reply "Tourette's ya c&£t now f@(k off"

The point of my previous post is that I believe that if someone can’t walk or walk far then they can have a blue badge on a brand new rolls royce if they have one.
The value of the means of transport is immaterial .
And
If someone is temporalily disabled so that they are unable to walk or walk far ,but doesn’t have a badge then they should still be able to use disabled bays because they also have a genuine need.
However if an able bodied person parks in a disabled bay they should be horsewhipped.:xrofl:

There are degrees of disability, as I’ve said before I can walk for miles so I don’t need a space to be near to where I want to be. I need the space to be wide as I have a wheelchair to get out of the car/van......

Some one who has a disability and a blue badge, who looks “normal” gets out of the car does their shopping comes back with a few bags puts them in the back gets in car and drives off.... do they need a disabled parking space...?

Someone with blue badge parks in a disabled bay gets out of car, gets walking stick out of the back/boot and walks to shops.....

A family park up in a disabled bay, all look “normal” half an hour later all come back carrying heavy shopping bags....

All of the above could have some form of disability but do they all need an extra wide space....?

Not long ago I just pulled into a disabled parking space in my car, a Volkswagen T5 pulled behind me and the young woman in it was waving a blue badge about and beeping the horn, so I waved my blue badge back and she drove off.... as I walked away from my car I recognised her running across the car park and she came over and said “sorry about that but anyone parks in the bays now” I said the way you ran across that car park it looks like you don’t need it either, she said “we all have our good days”.... so should she park in a normal bay on a good day...?

It’s a mine field ......

And I will admit that I’ve seen some flash car in a bay and thought “oh yea”.......(n)
 
I agree there seems to be some abuse
I used to sell ex mobility cars as we were an approved motability dealer.
They had the biggest leasing fleet in europe
Bigger than hertz
Bigger than avis
Food for thought

I always did. There is always someone in more need than me and should I be able to make their life easier I hope I always will.

It’s not the rolls Royce’s or Bentleys it’s the low down weeny sports cars that get me! If you can contort your body enough to get in AND out of one it’s questionable that you require ..... actually scratch that, it’s probably WHY you need the blue badge!!
