Benidorm for a first timer

We don't go to Benidorm because we know its not for us. We don't frequent bars, anywhere, in the evenings on a regular basis. We actually lived in nearby Villajoiosa for 3 years and only went into Beni once in the evening and that was with a Spanish/French couple. They loved it and wanted to take us!

I love to read cliffanger 's threads though. It's great for so many people and I'd never say I hate it.

We like different things that the majority would hate. Anyone up for climbing/via ferrata-ing, mountain biking/walking? Nope, not many of you 😂.

Live and let live 💜

We’ve got a motorhome and sometimes we stay a day or two and sometimes we stay a week or two, it’s all about choice, that’s why we love it.

We’ve been to Beni a few times and had a great time and I don’t even drink at all, Nick does. I must admit the first time we went we arrived on the day of the November Carnival thing, came off the motorway at the wrong exit and were right in it trying to get to Villasol. The look of horror on my face must have terrified the policeman as he let us through. The next morning we walked past the market and on towards the horrid bit and I wanted to leave. On our way back we bumped into Sheddy and Pamelaaar and the rest is history:giggle:

The afternoon tea is here:

Other Funsters have gone there for different meals and they always say it’s good. The afternoon tea was absolutely delicious, with a small bottle of Cava or Prosecco to go with it.

The tapas was from Zodiac House, Av del Ruzafa, it’s a couple of streets back from the front.

There is also Tapas Alley, which is full of tapas bars, but a bit more expensive.

We also loved the Carrer del Rosari for tapas bars. There is a bar that specialises in different tortillas, which are really good - The Tortilleria de Benidorm.

I think that’s enough for now, but don’t even get me started on Cisne Market eh guys?!!

My ukey girls always frowned on my trips to Beni, they couldn’t understand what I saw in it, but they came out for a few days and had a blast ….

Do you need a ACSI for all sites for a discount ?
Most sites will give you the same rate as ACSI but without the electric Steve that's included with ACSI which I think is 4kw a day not a lot of difference really, but you can use your card on the way down as well it pays for itself in one trip easily.

Interesting thread.... conflicting feelings...Spain has more to offer for those who are not Beni fans....just the same as taking a UK holiday actually..Who prefers, The Highlands, Lake District, The Cotswolds, The Dales or does everyone holiday in Blackpool, Skegness or Margate...which I believe are all different...each to their own....Long live Beni...it helps to make the Valencia Region a very prosperous one indeed..

We love walking too. We used to walk from Beni to Albir and beyond through the pine forests - not sure we'll be doing that again....

We love to cycle too, although not the type of cycling you both do!

I think we just love the sun in the winter, and Beni gives us everything we want. (y)

What really annoys me is when people denigrate the whole of Spain after they've had one trip to somewhere they don't like. It could be Beni, or maybe Marbs, or anywhere in between (sometimes they've never even been to Spain but have a picture in their head) 😡.

Spain is a bigger picture than the holiday coasts. National and Natural parks covering deserts, mountains, lakes. Tiny, natural villages with Horreos or windmills. Grand cities with wonderful churches, monestaries and other old buildings. Lovely, unspoilt forests and beaches away from the hotspots. The list goes on ...

Shut up Judith, I might spoil the places we like to visit 🤣🤣

The same goes for every country.

I do like a visit to the Costas. But.

I also like the Picos, a ride in the mountains. Maybe Burgos to Avila, down to Toledo. Perhaps a run southwest into Extremadura to feel the heat of the frying pan and the Roman remains. Maybe Sevilla to check out the guitar shops...

It takes all sorts...

Totally agree. Before we set off we had seen Spain as a piece of land we needed to cross after leaving France to get to Portugal, how wrong were we. The north west was stunning especially the Pico mountains. Fortunately we didn’t get to the far North West so we have an excuse to return in the new year. Its given us a lot to think about, more than we thought possible.

So far I like Spain with the exception of all the coastal holiday resort crap, and this is most of the coastline from north to south, give me inland Spain and the famous old cities any day , but hey each to their own , luckily lots of people like coastal Spain , this keeps the places I like nice and quiet🤷🏻‍♂️👍😇

Exactly..the Costas are what they are...our Costa is 20 minutes away by car...it's fabulous....very Spanish, but frequented by ex-pats and visitors from all over..not tacky at all.
20 minutes in the opposite direction is a totally different picture....forests and mountains with typical Murcian towns and villages....,👍🇪🇦😃

I’ve heard she came to an end (no idea whether it was ‘sticky’ or not) and have walked past the bars advertising shows by her niece/second cousin once removed!
We went to her show a few New Years ago. I recommend it for anyone looking for hints for good places to stash their packs of bacon and eggs before the ferry police confiscate it.

Billylou ..
I'm of the same mind as you, I'm currently up the coast near Peniscola, will go to Valencia next week and then onto benidorm..I'm a solo traveller with ACSI card..any site recommendations greatly appreciated...got to try it 😬

If you don’t have a dog Villasol is very nice. If not then lots of funsters go to Arena Blanca and La Torretta.

Hello, we only stayed for the day but if Villasol would have allowed a dog we would have stayed there. We plan to come back next year for a few days but plan a bit better in terms of site to town logistics with a dog. If you want some fun, a lot to look at and I’m sure you’d meet a lot of happy go lucky people. We were in Valencia yesterday and are heading north. Have a great time.

We had 3 days there a couple of weeks ago, free parking works well because we need water our closest tap has been turned off 😉 probably to discourage motorhomes, 😁 waste is full but we do have 2 cassettes, and to be honest after 3 day's we have had our fix and move on. :Eeek:

Steve and Denise We like https://www.campingarenablanca.com/en/
It's cheaper with acsi but there's not a lot in it, we are only 7m with our bike rack I would check on pitch size, I think much over 8m would be tight. 😁
But acsi is worth having, we have used ours for 12 nights this year. 😯😎 Bob.

Ditto here Geraldine :) however, this time I doubt we'll be staying as long as we normally do.

We'll see you and Cliff at Villasol on 10th January. (y)

Re Sticky Vicky's replacement, I thought it was her daughter who took over, and now her granddaughter doing the rounds. ;)

I used to order the ACSI book before we left the UK, but now we use Aires on the way down to Spain, and buy the book at either Arena Blanca reception, or from the Camping Shop opposite Raco. Last time at Villasol, I wasn't even asked for my card, but still got the ACSI rate. :whatthe:

Cheers,

Jock. :)
