Beating the 90/180 day Schengen rule

I recall a time when non-European men and women used an 'introduction service' to find and be married to a British resident for a few days just to be allowed to get into the U.K. and live and work here.

Not just non-Europeans. Basia's Sister who is Polish did an arranged marriage in England to some Frenchman, but not just to get into UK but to escape from Communist Poland.

She now lives in Turkey. Has she escaped a controlling regime?

Used Schengen calculation for two options: SP/PO/FR, SP/PO-MO-SP/FR.
Please, can the Schengen expert check and confirm to me that this calculations are legal?

Here’s a footnote to this thread from another motorhome forum. No doubt it will annoy some of those who think we’re being tracked by EU spies to make sure we don’t breach the 90/180 rule…

The UK passport control wouldn’t be interested anyway it’s the French customs that would check length of stay🤔

Of course it's not being checked automatically and won't be until ETIAS comes in next year.

But our passport entry stamps were examined when we left Spain from Santander earlier this year and the same happened in France at Roscoff. I've also read an account on here from someone who was warned verbally they were very close to exceeding the limit. So some ports of entry/exit are checking.

The border control officials are also making more of an effort to group the entry and exit stamps together these days for ease of checking, and even use the passport pages sequentially!

Not in my passport I’ve got stamps all over the place some of them ink to faint to read.

My last one was like that but this year the entry and exit ones are being placed together, so it has been noticeable.

have your own stamp made

Richard, on that theme I knew another yachtsman who had a small cabinet, contains stamps for his yacht, personal stamps etc.

He took this with him to any control office in every port and as soon as an official got his stamp out he immediately got his out to counter- stamp the document.

They were so impressed that he never had a clearance problem.

Bullshit baffles brains.

We were extremely close when we left Caen on Monday.
Handed the passport over to French customs and they didn’t bat an eyelid.
Stamped and handed back.

I then asked a question about what would happen if I had broken down on the way and could not make the ferry even though I had booked at 89 days. Potentially a breakdown in the van then taking us over but something outside our control.

The lady asked me for my passport and used fingers to count up our stay. So obviously nothing was on the computer. No comment about being a bit close.
Just a comment on possible fines and bans. Although your case would be considered on an individual basis they were very polite and helpful.

I asked the question because I was reading a thread about a comformatic breakdown on the way back home and potential repair times.
Should you really only do 10 weeks just in case of breakdown.?

So obviously nothing was on the computer.
Exactly, there is as far as I know no overall EU-wide system yet which records entry and exit. But as Orion noted they do seem to be putting the stamps in close together now.

This is my passport. On the left two trips to France last year. On the lower right in and out of Spain earlier this year. Above that entry into France at Roscoff for the current trip. I wonder where the exit stamp is going to go? :)

Of course, previously you would be lucky to collect any stamps travelling in the EU but outside this zone stamps were put almost anywhere. In and out of a country often on different pages.

I did once fill a passport and have to apply for new one as a result. A trip across Saudi Arabia and back took up the best part of two whole pages. One page for the visa then the two entry and exit stamps on the opposite page. The Oman visa was wonderful as it included several postage stamps!! :)

Same as ours. Entry and exit on same page. Although exit this week was given a double stamp. Does that mean a free entry next time.

No, it’s to mark you down as ‘a person of interest and nearly overstayer’, so they can keep a close eye on you in future.

Looking again at the photo of my passport I've just realised entry stamps have square corners and an arrow pointing inwards. Exit stamps have round corners and an outward pointing arrow. :)

Spain and France using the same design too, with only a single F or E to show the country.

I can confirm that there is no computerised check on the number of days so far. The scan just highlights whether or not you’re a person of interest. Darling daughter and her boyfriend work for the FCDO and we were discussing it last weekend. Once ETIAS is working that will be different, I think they both laughed!

I feel a small breakdown coming on ….. no I won’t mention the van possibly next year for 3 days…🤔

I’m such a rebel… it’ll be me own fault and will probably cost me a few shekels along the way…😎

As there are no computerised recordings of your trips away renew your passport and you’ll 90 days again.

There's probably more going on than we think, I saw this post on another forum this morning .😁

They are scanning residency cards. 😎 Bob.

When I went to the UK in May, from Corvera, my TIE card was scanned also. My passport wasn't opened, although I passed them both over together.

If you have a UK passport which entitles you to enter UK at any time, then why proffer TIE card, as it now has no relevance to entering UK?

Yes but you still get a stamp coming back without it, Or even with it if you have the pleasure of a lady at customs that insists stamping everyone that's not French. 😁
We have that one stamp coming back 🙄 but if it makes her happy. 😁 Bob.

I was leaving Murcia. I could have been going anywhere (flights allowing!) Anyway a printed A4 sign at the window said to pass both TIE and passport over if you have them. So I did 👍

I didn't use my TIE to enter the UK though.

Maybe I misunderstood jumartoo saying ' when I went to UK' as meaning entering, as at UK Border Force.

I would exit EU/Schengen only on my EU Residency card and enter UK on my UK passport. Then do the reverse.

Pas problem? But nobody has confirmed that they have done it.
