I am sorry but it was you who made the comments “narrow minded prejudiced bigots” so 35 years and you have never caused anyone else any issues I think you have a very blinkered view , how would you know what problems you might have caused after the wild camping.
When I started motorhoming I had this rose coloured view that I could pull up on a beach get the barbecue table and chairs out , run the generator if I needed extra power , then I saw in many parts of Spain and Portugal that the herding effect took place and scores of motorhome s were parked in scruffy car parks or spoiling the view at some beauty spots . It seems to me that many wild campers are ruining your reputation not campsite lovers

I don't have a bbq table.

I don't do "herding".

I rarely run my genny in company and only then when I have checked with any neighbours.

Whatever you saw in Spain or Portugal it wasn't me...

I don't spoil the view in any "beauty spots". I own the beauty spot I stay at mostly. I don't spoil my view.

Whose else's view do I spoil anyway?

It is the campsite Funsters who slag us Free Spirits off on here that I refer to as bigoted etc... and even you know who they are.

Don't tell me I have a "blinkered view" as far as off-site motorhoming goes... you don't have enough information on the subject to form a valid opinion.

Geoff, do you still take your Archbold, Wilkinson's Road traffic Offences, and maybe even Megarry and Wade with you on your travels?

A good authority on obstruction of the highway is DPP v Jones [1999] 2 AC 240. A smashing read.

In the end though it seems to rest on the decision of Magistrates as regards the question whether obstruction of the highway is reasonable in the particular circumstances so as not to amount to an offence. This can lead to bizarre outcomes as illustrated by the Cosmos Takeaway burger van appeal (Scott v Mid-South Essex Justices and Keskin [2004] EWHC 1001 (Admin). Guess how that private prosecution turned out ...

Never 'dirtied my hands' practising criminal law.

I personally have never witnessed a motorhome camper leaving an overnight wild camp in a mess, but I can easily accept that many do.
I feel that its the mattress in a Transit who are likely culprits & sadly the tenting fraternity doing even worse, you have to feel sorry for the responsible tent users. I was a mad keen hill walker & have come across all too many wild camp sites with broken bottles, human faeces & abandoned tents in these wild beautiful places.
I have often warned of motorhome owners overstaying their welcome, such as the old boy who camped for months at a time on Ayr beach & I was pilloried for my view on his type, well here comes the reckoning which I was bleating on about.

I live on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park & really enjoy a nights wild camping in the forest, but this has become almost impossible in the nicer spots, so I've reverted to the very well hidden spots & fortunately there are many of them.
I am just as happy to be on a CL or proper professional site, but try booking one of them just now?

I certainly don't fancy chipping up at a busy wild camping spot, I have no desire to be another part of the problem.

Right now we're supposed to be coaxing councils to accept motorhomes as an integral part of the local economy & sadly the FLT brigade as adding ammunition to the anti brigade of councillors.

A question for those of us who disagree with wild camping in their motorhomes, I'm now badly disabled, but I still love star gazing. I'm fortunate enough to live on the edge of the UK's first designated dark skies park.
So I like heading into the depths of the forest, preferably in winter. I take the motorhome to have heating, comfort & a nice fresh coffee whilst I enjoy a pass time which I can still enjoy.
I'm not setting up for the night but by the very nature of stargazing I am there at night, I would move on with no quibble if requested to do so, I am nowhere near populated area's.
So am I doing wrong? How do we define overnight parking?

Who is asking for accomodation? unless you call a space in an existing carpark accomodation....
You want somewhere to put your motorhome for the night so that you can sleep in it. Down the road a local resident in their mobile home pays council tax, site rent and other costs to stay the night. Why shouldn't you? What's so special about you that makes you exempt from making a contribution in the way that local people do?

If a car does not have to pay to park overnight and a works van doesn't have to pay to park overnight then there is no actual justifiable reason why a motorhome should have to pay to park overnight.
What happens inside a self contained vehicle ought to be no one else's business bar the people inside that vehicle.

My idea of motorhoming is just the opposite - no planning needed
But in U.K. it’s too stressful. Agree France etc ideal. Not a problem as they have more space. However hard we try we cannot stretch the U.K. to increase the area available for everyone to do their own thing. We have to share this green and pleasant land or it will become one big car park which no one will enjoy.

I hardly go anywhere in July/August or during school holidays - home or way. I haven't booked anywhere except a few rallies in years....

part of the problems in britain is campsites were designed for caravans who wish to arrive to a fully serviced pitch and stay a week with full facilities available to them where as motor homes are mainly just looking to park for a night and only need dump and water one day in three.Spain have started to provide motor home stopovers where you pay per night and pay if you need to fill or dump the fill and dump facilities are available even to those not stopping

I'd happily see Illegally parked Motorhomes taken away and crushed. Those who prefer doing it the French way know where they can go ;)

If it's not legal then, please - go to where it is. Don't try and impose your preferences on the rest of us!
You mean like you are wanting to impose your preferences on those responsible motorhomers who prefer to use their motorhome the way it was intended to be used like the French for example.

Definition of accommodation

1: something supplied for convenience or to satisfy a need: such as
a: lodging, food, and services or traveling space and related services
I think you need to re-read that one.
Traveling space doesn't mean a 'parking space' but as in a ferry or tunnel berth.
That depends on one's grasp of the English language I suppose. (y)

As I was reasonably well educated, yes I do. (y)
& nothing to do with parking. It would state 'parking' space not travelling
If it's illegal and fines are not working then yes, confiscate the vehicles and crush them.
That just leads to more problems like the ill thought out one size covers all, vehicle seizing legislation.
Death by the road side if you try it with me. Whoever you are.
f it's illegal and fines are not working then yes, confiscate the vehicles and crush them. A suitable deterrent is required.

I'm not a demon, I'd allow the owners to get out first
I'd execute any of them out of hand & without thought & anyone who even attempted to defend it.

I wonder why the subject of FLTs v occasional motorhomers raises such emotion? Sometimes I think forums are weird, the way they bring out such unworthy comments from people who surely are nicer/better in real life than their forum comments would suggest?

We all have motorhomes and we all enjoy them in different ways, so why should we take up against others and what works for them with their vehicle?

We stayed in Eye Kettleby Lakes in Leicestershire the night before last and it cost us £30 and we didn't even fill up with water or use the Elsan. It was a nice, pretty site, though. But the next night weI stayed in the car park at Little Roodee in Chester and it cost us a tenner, right in the middle of town. Both spots were nice in their own way, but there is no doubt that the Chester one was more affordable. What harm did weI (FLT's) or the other vans do there, I wonder, for members of our own motorhoming fraternity to want us ''off the road''?

I sincerely wish all of you as much happiness in your van as we have in ours.

Mick & Lisa.

I think that it is GOOD news. The sooner we get the FLT mob off the road the better. :Eeek:

I agree...if all those using motorhomes like caravans would just buy caravans and stay on sites there would be more room for real motorhomers to park without problems.

Wales is pretty crap anyway ....😉
I along with many others totally resent your last few words, stating that "Wales is pretty crap anyway" is that why we rank so highly in visitor attraction areas, we have some of the best beaches in the country, and one in particular that is ranked 10th in the world, so much for being pretty crap anyway, and I as a proud Welsh person find that remark very offensive.
