Anyone bought their new UK sticker yet?

I have the Funster's sticker, that should be enough for going to Morocco...

Does anybody really care though?. I always wondered why you really only see GB/IRL Stickers abroad but not F, DE, NL etc as the number plate identifier is fine for the rest of the world.

Is it a British thing that dates back a long time to need to add another identifier, who will check and what is the penalty for non compliance anyway?
There is no GB identifier on any new number plate anymore so I guess that’s was a European thing as we’re no longer in Europe it’s back to the sticker

OK with it, just another bit of nationalist nonsense which embarrasses many of us
The pedantic French Bobby could still in theory fine you for not having a GB sticker up until the new UK one comes into force.
Its not "Nationalistic Nonsense.... especially to citizens of N Ireland....and this is all designed for them to feel inclusive of the United Kingdom instead of us being referred to as "Great Britain & Northern Ireland".... and its something that would be useful for some in Brussels as its obvious many still don't realise N Ireland is actually part of the UK..

You can still order one with a GB badge on it, our van was registered 4 months ago and got new GB plates.

If you look up GB on the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe website which maintains vehicle codes it already states GB= United Kingdom

Good point - the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe maintains the vehicle code list under UN agreement. So its not really up to the UK Gov to arbitrarily change this.

I'll just keep my informal "SCO" identifier until it becomes formal ;)

I for one certainly don’t feel and don’t want to be a part of any so called United Kingdom. The Union is well and truly broken and the sooner Westminster realise that the better

Hi The Lobster

You missed my later post 43, it's not just UK Government changing it, UNECE and UN have agreed to the change .................. so UK it is.

I suppose GBA, GBG, GBJ, GBM and GBZ will stay the same as they are part of GB but not UK, a bit daft really

Just wondering if anybody has bought a new UK sticker for their van, ready for the new regulations being introduced for travelling on the continent next month?

<Broken link removed>

Legal requirement from 28/09/21.

we are off to Spain in September and have got our uk sticker
After 14 years of travelling to Spain we do as we are told and don’t take risks.
We have been stopped by the police in rural Spain and been interigated to find anything they could to fine us.
So don’t think you won’t be pulled up you might 😬

The rest of Europe appear to accept the UK identifier (together with a Union Flag) within the number plate, Spain seems to be the only country that wants a separate sticker ...............................nice to be different ::bigsmile:

So I’m thinking of going to France, (depending on cost of AHC and covid testing) mid September and first week in October. So I will have to peel off a GB sticker mid holiday and replace it with a UK one 😂
Marker pen 😜

I know Johnson has said he'll ask the UNECE to make the change - but I'm yet to find any evidence that they have. In any case I'm scratching my head over who'll care. Will UK customs be concerned if you don't have one driving to another country? Will French customs (for example) care or even know? The DVLA don't care - nothing to do with them.

Shortly after when this is due to "come into force" the exemption period for UK charging VAT on goods coming into the country will end - I suspect that will cause much more disruption at our borders than a motorhome with a missing country sticker.

Covered up my EU with a GB sticker on the number plate only 6 weeks ago:doh:

Take a look at the government website.
You probably don’t need to bother paying for it if you’ve already got a GB sticker

I have an old magnetic oval sticker, yellow letters (GB) with a blue background, with a ring of yellow stars. Do you think it would do if I just coloured the stars blue?

I'm going for the lot - The UK sticker to be legal, and the SCO plus Saltire flags because I can, and a wee european flag sticker too. I will make sure the UK one is removable.

How about a UN sticker for our motorhomes. It would cover everybody and get us away from any Brexit crap. Opps! been called a misurable motohomer by the boss before so might be again

I like your thinking, but the UN has no legal status as a State, nor has the EU.

Yes I know but why can't we get on with everyone without all this bloody bureaucracy

Yes, got our UK stickers the other day along with Angles Morts stickers. Will fix the former on 28/9 and will put the AM's on when we hit France in mid-September, will take them off when we return from France. Quite agree that, in 15 years for regularly driving in France, we have had very few issues. IMHO it is better to obey the rules (no matter how idiotic they are) than openly flaunt them.
Safe and happy travels all 👍

Hi there. We dropped into the accessories shop in a well known Motorhome dealer in Newark. They have loads of GB stickers and no UK stickers.
they also have a very disappointing stock to look at but it is always a good place to stop for lunch.
Maybe they shift so much stock in their accessories shop they will have the UK ones in soon….or maybe word has not got to Newark yet!

D

I've got GB with a Union Jack on the left hand side of my number plate and Department 2B with the Corsican flag on the right hand side which will hopefully find favour with Monsieur Le Gendarme

Theres me thinking that the UK was just England these days, at least going by Her Majesty’s Governments Covid rules. 🤣

We’ve been across many times over the last few years and seen many Brit vehicles with no GB stickers or plates with them on.
As said before our number plates are obviously different from those across the moat.
