Anyone bought their new UK sticker yet?

Just to 'stick up' with the UK Gov. (Or is it 'Stick it up'?) the 'New' sticker
comes into effect on the 28th September so the GB sticker is still valid.

Correct! (y)

We actually have a GB sticker in the cupboard that has not been affixed yet. Oh well.
A new UK sticker will have to be purchased.
I wonder if Brittany ferries will be doing a discount bundle including a breathalyser test kit and a GB sticker for the next 5 years

Well they can stuff off - I've already reluctantly bought some mini Union Jack stickers to fix over the EU stars on my number plates which I only display when I really have to.

Lawful or Legal in who's jurisdiction enforcement by whom is my question.
I certainly have a great deal more fish to fry, than concern myself with UK posturing.
The choice is of course yours.

As to the question of who will enforce the requirement, the answer is simple - the jurisdiction lies with the authorities ie the police - within the country you are visiting.

I for one don't propose to provide an opportunity for the local plod to pull me up abroad for the sake of spending less than £1.50 to be compliant.

Next question then is has anybody actually ever been pulled over for not having a GB sticker as we always used to play a game with the kids upon arriving in Calais off the train count the number of UK cars without a GB sticker or GB on the number plate and it was always quite a bit.

I thought Eurotunnel could have had a sideline in walking up and down the train selling overpriced stickers and breathalysers (I know you dont need this one) or the Gendarmes could pull people over leaving the tunnel but they never did.

Just daft.
GB Grande Bretagne
UK Ukraine
RU Royaume Uni

If you look up GB on the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe website which maintains vehicle codes it already states GB= United Kingdom

Don't know what the fuss is about

Ukraine is UA

RU is Burundi

just saying ::bigsmile:

Same UNECE website also has this against UK

"Before 1922, GB was United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
'UK' appears instead of the 'GB' code on British driving licenses.
From the 28 September 2021 the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will change its International vehicle registration code from 'GB' to 'UK'. This will not affect territories for which the United Kingdom controls international relations outside of Great Britain and Northern Ireland."

Does this mean all European countries will have to accept UK over GB?

Would your average French bobby realise GB plates are illegal or where the bloody hell is UK :Eeek:
The new 'UK' plates are not recognised by anyone other than the UK government.

The officially recognised ID for the country is GB.
The UK has requested a change of ID but other countries may object or may already have first dibs on the UK ID, (such as Ukraine or a future United Korea)

Therefore a pedantic French Bobby could fine you for not having a GB sticker

It sounds as though you are unable to accept the UN jurisdiction statement then, effective 28 September 2021?

Sorry but I have to disagree the "UK" international code is not just recognised by the UK Government.

As all European countries are signed up to the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic 1968 (including France) and this is implemented by UNECE within Europe and they have stated that on 28/9/21 GB will become UK, it would be safe to assume they will have already informed the various European Governments of this change so it will be recognised throughout Europe, including France

Also considering the UN has issued an edict (see post 21 above) and there does not appear to have been any objections, it would seem it's going to happen without interference form them.

As for other countries having "first dibs" on UK, United Korea seems very unlikely and Ukraine already has UA which it was assigned in 1992 following it's breakaway from the USSR.

Wonder what will happen when Scotland and Northern Ireland go their separate ways??
Will we have to buy another updated sticker? :imoutahere:

No it would stay the same UK = Ununited Kingdom ::bigsmile:

Just watch the Tokyo Olympics I'm sure we were GB.

I thought that but did a bit of research. Northern Ireland athletes have the option to compete as part of the "All Ireland" team. This is because a lot of sport over there is run on a joint basis. It explains why the Beeb were interviewing a lot of Irish medal winners as well as the GB ones.

UK includes Northern Ireland. GB doesn't. So UK is the correct code as things stand at the moment.

What galls me is that somewhere in a big office in Whitehall there is a group of civil servants being paid many £’000’s to come up with this BS, couldn’t they have used the money to fix a couple of potholes on our knackered road system?

Rant over, I’ll pack me bag.......

I carry a spare pair of glasses - from 3 prescriptions ago.

Is M. Flic equipped to check whether the prescription is correct for my eyes now?

So I’m thinking of going to France, (depending on cost of AHC and covid testing) mid September and first week in October. So I will have to peel off a GB sticker mid holiday and replace it with a UK one 😂
