Any Tips For The Driver?

This one here is a bit of a dawdle in comparison!
It does look very worrying though as you approach it!
And the road is a shallow "Z" bend into \ out of it!

6' 9" clearance.

There was a low bridge in the Oldham area that was a single decker bus route. When my Grandad was an inspector he warned any driver that took a double on that route to not come to go home if they hit that bridge.

In the early 90s there was a rail bridge, I think in the Luton area, signed at 13' 6". Our trailers were 13' 9", but some of the guys still took their trailers under it, instead of taking a rather tight detour. Then one weekend they surfaced the road under the bridge, directly over the old surface. On Monday, BANG! On the Tuesday the driver was looking for another job.

I'm impressed with that pu sandwich construction, looks pretty sturdy stuff ?

West Street and Cook Street in Glasgow were disasters waiting to happen.

1994, West Street 5 Girl Guides and Leaders killed when a double decker allegedly following another Guide Leaders car taking a short-cut to the Kingston Bridge sheered off it's roof (10' 6" clearance!) . Bus was meant to go via Clyde Tunnel! Street is now blocked off at one side but there's still access under the bridge.

A few years later another one tried to get under Cook Street bridge (just around the corner from West Street) did the same. 15' 3" bridge immediately around a corner from main road and immediately followed by a 12' 6" bridge! Fortunately bus was empty on it's way to depot. They've now narrowed the road under it to 7' 3".

The bridge in Emsworth when approached from the north will allow a car or van to pass but a long lorry even below the height indicated will jam as the road rises on the south side and the lorry roof will jam against the underside of the bridge!

All you PVC convertors get their quick I’m sure there will be some bits you can use.😂😂

There was a rail bridge in Calvert Lane in Hull that was arched and they had special arch topped double-decker busses to go on that route, unfortunately I can't fine any pictures of it though, however there were also some for use in Beverley too:

Someone once took a 'normal' DD on the Hull route and took the top off injuring a lot of people in the process, as the bridge was unused it was eventually removed.

We have one near where we live that constantly gets hit. They put up 13 warning signs. Didn't help.

Had a scare on Monday when going to get my jab. Drove into the car park and saw the height barrier 6'6". Didn't have my imperial to metric conversion notes on me and a car was behind so didn't know if my 1960mm van would get under. Edged up to it slowly and got under with 2" to spare... Whew!!!

My tip for the driver is: Duck!...........

Not long after I started working for our local bus company a double decker from the Gainsborough area I think took a wrong route on a school run and hit a low bridge. Fortunately it was on route to the school to pick up.
Some one said that bus came back as an open topper for the sea front.
There is an underpass here in town that used to catch Luton vans from a local hire company. I was called out to recover one of the Luton’s. The hire company drove the chassis back to there yard. I had to drag the remains of the Luton on to my trailer. It has been changed to pedestrian only with bollards across the road.

Best advice for the owner would be get some shares in gaffa tape !!

There is no need to go that far out to avoid low underpasses in Rouen, simply do the D6015.
Over many years we have not found a sensible alternative to bypass Rouen. The motorway becomes Dual carriageway at the city's edge and drops down through a tunnel. Exit this in the inside lane and in 1.5km take the 3rd exit signed to Vernon. The slip road ends in traffic lights - go in the centre lane to turn left across a dual carriageway. You should now be in the right hand lane for the next set of lights. Go straight on then bear right onto the D6015 signed for Vernon. In a little while the Seine appears on your right and you are clear of the City

For those that want the easiest most direct route without having to duck

Benefit of the doubt. Driver must have forgotten what they were driving. Interesting to see the insurance claim.
We have been away for a few days break but only 30 mins from home. We took the car and the motorhome. At one car park for a beach, the management had me driving al round looking for a large space - till she said hang on we are not in the motorhome!

Yes I've used that way ever since the bridge caught fire & was out of action for a few years.
Far better now also since they resurfaced the road in both directions.
