Another bad news thread for LPG

'Forklifts' raises a question.

Are new forklifts being sold powered by LPG?

If so, and with the increase in home deliveries and warehousing then it looks as though LPG will be around for a while, somewhere.
They will most likely switch to electric. Especially if used in doors.

In the warehouse i worked in we had 24 electric trucks and only 2 Lpg trucks .

And that was in 2017 . They were stopping gas trucks from being used inside due to fumes.

Are yard fork lifts still allowed to use red or do they have to use white diesil now ?

Hi there. For years we kept a small notebook in the cab. On the way home, usually driving up the hill past Folkestone on the M20, we would make a list of the things we have forgotten. That way we could check we had them for the next trip.
After a two week trip to France, Germany, Belgium and Holland, the boss took out the notebook and asked what we had forgotten. “Driving documents” I said.
I realised we had left them at home about three days in but thought better of telling anyone as I did not want everyone worrying.
We have never forgotten them again!

All our quarry plant including fork trucks are now on white diesel👍

Very fed up with the LPG situation. This week I swapped my 6kg Calor tank for a shiny new 2x11kg Gaslow setup as I have plans to spend time in Europe soon. The problem is I can't fill it up! In my part of the world (South Lincolnshire) there seems to be none left. I tried:

Bourne (Out of order)
Spalding Morrisons (Haven't had any for two weeks, don't know when they will)
Holdingham Rbt (Out of use, empty?)
Whaplode (Been on order since Jan, don't know when they will get any)
Boston (Empty)

Does anyone know where I can reliably get some tomorrow. I am supposed to be going away in the van this weekend. It will be worth travelling to get it. Would it be worth taking one of the Gaslows out and put the Calor back so I have options while this situation continues?

The Autogas app shows quite a few in Lincolnshire.

A lot of the ones shown round here (Boston) do not sell it, or have not for a long time.
I don't know the area at all, but these two are showing as up to date.

The one at the bottom of the pic is definitely out, not sure about the other. Not a usual garage, but will ring first thing in the am. Thanks for the suggestion.

Try the a17 garage next to the Boston sausage co they have a pump

& here in Spain every garage & his brother are installing bulk lpg tanks to cater for the increased demand from duel fuel vehicles. we've gone from lpg in the centre of Murcia city , one in Totana & the next in Granada 18 years ago, to every station around here bar one now having bulk lpg.(y)

May be found useful, if anyone is in France near Riom, the Carrefour N45’52,715 E003’7,010 has a gpl pump that can be accessed 24/7 with its own card machine point as opposed to needing the cashier to be on duty.

Maybe that's why there's a shortage in the UK ::bigsmile:

This will surely affect foreign Van's visiting UK as they'll most likely be fitted with refillable system due to Europe being set up for refillable systems not bottle exchange system.

Most will fill up before they come over and have enough

Result!!:giggle:

I filled up this morning from a little garage specialising in LPG conversions on old Jags - Mugglestone & Co at Anton's Gowt outside Boston. Ever such a nice chap, he gets his gas from Flogas and he says he gets his delivery every week without fail. He says he has never had any problem getting gas. Totally recommend him.

I'm now a happy camper :cool::cool:

Recently filled up at one like that in Lliria in Spain, first one I'd seen.

Calor and Flogas have been giving priority to domestic customers while they are having delivery problems. Perhaps as the heating season tails off, a bit more might get through to the forecourts.
Flogas are awful. We ve just moved our bulk supply to one of the independents and so much happier. They're MO is apparently to operate with insufficient number of tankers to limit their overheads and make more profit, this is probably why they're suffering more than the others from the driver shortage.

Apparently there isn't a true shortage of LPG in Uk as its been a mild winter and the reserves are nowhere near gone - Its only been 7 weeks!!

No problem this morning at the Welcome Break Telford Service Area if your passing

My local go to lpg garage is MFG. Price today is 99.9/liter. Interesting point I noticed today, pump is marked Flogas, bulk tank is labeled Calor

It will certainly hit us, we have a Ford F150 petrol/gas conversion, with an 85 litre LPG tank, pulling an American 5thwheel Jayco trailer. We did not go anywhere last 2 years because of the pandemic, & me being classed as 'vulnerable' so we were looking forward to getting out this year, but apparently not, due to shortages of all fuel. Still i guess we will have a lovely, comfortable, 1 bed, garden ornament parked up in the garden. Maybe we can rent it out as holiday accommodation? Norfolk appears to be on holidaymakers hit list of places they want to be?

It shows it, but when you actually check most are 'temporarily out of stock'. Some have been TOS for quite a while. I've been looking in the Lincs area as I'm there often with my van. Have the same issue closer to home where the closest LPG currently available is in Devizes, an hour away. It's definitely put me off of moving to Gaslow at the moment at least. I've bought an EcoFlow Powerbank instead!

You still have a petrol tank though?

This will hit us hard, we run a Ford F150 with a gas conversion [85 litre tank] pulling an American Jayco 5thwheel trailer. We had not been out with trailer for last 2 years, due to the pandemic & me being classed as 'vulnerable' We had been looking forward to getting out this year, but due to the unpredictability of fuel supplies of any sort, looks like we might not, & when Morrisons pull out, there will probably be no LPG available in West Norfolk Its not just the LPG, though, I am really surprized that the caravan manufacturing section have not been marching on no 10, because as as i understand it , the majority of Yorkshire, and surrounding areas seem to be heavily involved in the caravan/motorhome industry., so that will thousands of livelihoods gone. There is not an electric vehicle currently being produced, or even in the design stage which will tow a caravan, even a teeny, weenie thing, let alone one with any payload, & the same goes for motorhomes/campervans, - by the time you have spent £40,000+ converting them, the battery storage/weight is so great that you would be lucky to fit a change of underwear into the payload, which does not bode well for the future of family caravan holidays, cheap or otherwise. So in a couple of years time, our wheels will stop rolling, & there will be a humungous garden ornament out there in the garden, which maybe we can rent out as holiday accommodation - Norfolk seems to be on the 'must go to holiday destination list'? There has been some fun attached to life up until now, but its all now getting a bit dark, serious, and painful to the wallet?

oh yes, we still have a petrol tank, but the Ford slurps through petrol at 12 miles to the gallon [yes you did read that right] which is why the LPG is so great, Ford does'nt go any further on a gallon, but it will go same distance for half the price, which makes it a bit better. Ford pulls like a dream, we are 6.5 tons all up, but the Ford has a V8 engine, will go like stink, if asked too [even when pulling the trailer] Steve says that you don't even realise she is towing. [well obviously he does, he's a retired HGV driver] but the Ford really just carries on as if there is no weight there. It helps that its automatic. We have done a lot of touring over her time, UK only, [ 10 years] as Steve did not really fancy going abroad, even there he has a brother who is a Spanish resident/citizen but we had not planned for it all to end quite this way.
