Just looking
Hi,
Was settled on Supermetal hammer 16" alloys for my Ducato.
SWMBO said watch and wait for black friday or xmass or January sakes. Methinks that's fanciful but swmbo mbo.
They are rated at 1250Kgs per wheel = 2500 per axle.
Weighbridged in full hol trim at 1610 front, 1500 rear.
However, have today seen Fox Viper at £200 less for 4.
BUT, they are rated at 950Kgs each, 1900 per axle.
Still nicely above axle weight but Supermetal much better.
Super metal are made in UK. Fox, don't know.
Fox are gravity cast, would think Supermetal would be pressure cast to achieve density for the higher load rating.
Having looked at various websites can't find any more info except that there is a large range in both makes.
What would you do ?
Does anyone have any thoughts about what else I should be considering.
For example, I know I have to tell my insurer but would they need a TUV certificate ?
Anything else you can think of ?
Thanks.

The tyre is 1.8" taller. So it's only half that extra height at the axle.

Did you measure straight after you dropped the wheels back on to the floor? You have to move the van to let it all relax back down.
Been out with van.
Ride with uprated springs, gas shocks and semi-air was stable and felt safe,
but 15" wheels with 215/70/15 tyres was bumpy.
With 215/75/16 now smooth comfortable ride.
Clearance to wheel arch now 835mm.
Found my original measurements.
770mm original. 810mm after spring upgrade.
835mm after going from 15 to 16".

Final update.
Forgot to say.
When we went out to test the new wheels/tyres the sat nav speed now agreed with the speedo, a bonus.
Got 5 wheels/tyres with steel valves and full set of wheel bolts and locking bolts in black and delivery. £1500.
Funny thing was, although our supplier (van wheels)had the cheapest wheels by far the price they charged for the tyres almost brought the price back to the likes of LK and wheelbase alloys.

Again, another forgot to mention.
Will be E-mailing Fallen to ask what pressures I should run the tyres.
Fully loaded and with all tanks at approx 3/4 full was 1610Kg at the back and 1500Kg at the front.

If you search for I believe you mean Falken tyres theres a few charts on here. You will be surprised how low compared to the "camper" tyre pressures.

Yes I did mean Falken, spell corrector yet again!!!!!
Will check out the charts.
have seen various threads mentioning e-mailing Fallen direct.
I still have my printout for what my weights were.

Have e-mailed Falken technical with my axle weights.
they got back to me in less than 20 minutes!!!
Now running at 3.2 bar rear and 3.4 bar front.
Ride quality now much better.

That's pretty much the same pressures as Continental said I could run on my 3.5t van. I think I'm running a bit higher, just because the tyres looked very baggy with that little air in them.

Did my axle weights on a public weighbridge with all tanks near enough full and in full holiday trim, just for worst case.
That's the weights I quoted to Falken.
My van weighs in at 3100Kg as set out below, max is 3500.
We normally start a trip with fullish tank of diesel but freshwater tank only 1/3 full, grey tank empty and toilet cassette empty.
That means the pressures they quoted will actually be a bit high, but leaving it as is.

Don’t forget to inform your insurance of the change (y)
Have finally told my insurer today.
Also re-checked wheel bolts torque.
And, happy 100; not my age although as it happens it is my birthday today. Post #100.
Next thing, fit the spare under the fixed bed, it will take some doing to avoid eating too much space but I think I can do it.
Spare 15" is still underneath. Will be taking it and the mechanism out. Dropped the spare down a couple of weeks ago before ordering the 16" alloys/ tyres. The faff on made my mind up to get a spare 16" and got it inside. May never need it but don't want to crawl round in wet muddy conditions.

Make sure you have enough bin bags to place the replacement in, you don't want to use the spare and place a filthy wet (because it will be) punctured wheel into your nice clean Motorhome.

Yes thanks, hadn't really thought of that!!!I
Started pulling stuff apart today.
New spare wheel now in under the bed.
Going to re-route some heater ducting and move other bits around.
It's a challenge but I'll get there.
Sods law if I put it underneath I would get a puncture but sods law now that it's under the bed I'll never get one.
When I take out the old spare and the mechanism I'll have to find a use for all that empty space !

have you considered just carrying the spare tyre and not a complete wheel? then you wont have to carry a dirty wheel if youve had just the tyre replaced?
