Just looking
Hi,
Was settled on Supermetal hammer 16" alloys for my Ducato.
SWMBO said watch and wait for black friday or xmass or January sakes. Methinks that's fanciful but swmbo mbo.
They are rated at 1250Kgs per wheel = 2500 per axle.
Weighbridged in full hol trim at 1610 front, 1500 rear.
However, have today seen Fox Viper at £200 less for 4.
BUT, they are rated at 950Kgs each, 1900 per axle.
Still nicely above axle weight but Supermetal much better.
Super metal are made in UK. Fox, don't know.
Fox are gravity cast, would think Supermetal would be pressure cast to achieve density for the higher load rating.
Having looked at various websites can't find any more info except that there is a large range in both makes.
What would you do ?
Does anyone have any thoughts about what else I should be considering.
For example, I know I have to tell my insurer but would they need a TUV certificate ?
Anything else you can think of ?
Thanks.

The density of the metal is roughly the same as both methods just pour molten metal. The pressure is nothing like that from die casting, so it does little to compress and strengthen the metal. The difference is pressure casting can push the molten metal into more intricate shapes than just gravity casting. Pressure casting can make more structurally efficient shapes because you aren't so limited in mold shape, which is probably where some of the extra strength comes from. But it could just be a beefier design.

Hi Guigsy.
Yes that could be it, beefier.
Whatever the case the Supermetal Hammer is 1250Kgs load rated whereas the Fox Viper is just 980Kgs and underrated for front axle !!!
Why do that make to fit a Ducato if it isn't suitable?
Would a SWB have lighter axle ratings?

There are MWB (5.4m) Ducatos that have a total maximum load of 3300kg. I think the front and rear limits are 1750kg and 1850kg. So the Fox would work for that.

But the real answer is probably that they sell them because people will buy them. It's the buyer's problem if they overload them.

Checked the leg end inside the engine compartment.
(Mine is MWB(5.4m) Ducato)
Rear axle is 2000, front is 1800. Max combined is 3500Kgs
Fox would be just OK for front but underated for the rear.

Some MWB are only 3.3t and have a lighter spring setup... I used to own one.

Ok, perhaps older versions?
Mine was an x250. 3300kg vans do exist. Especially as post-conversions like mine was, which are more likely to go looking for alloys. But generally a motorhome converter would use the 3.5t chassis. Some use the light chassis though:

Thought mine was the light chassis? And the Maxi was the heavy chassis. More models than I realised.

Considering Avus AC V51Hyper. Similar to Supermetal Hammer Silver which no one seems to have stocks of.
Have emailed supplier to get loadvrating.
I'll look at rogue, thanks.
Had a goosygander at Rougue Alloys.
Far too fiddly for cleaning/maintenance.

Are these the ones?

Does anyone know the rating of standard 16" Ducato Alloys fitted on a Fiat based Adria? I'm looking to upgrade the rear suspension and will need new tyres next year (5 years old and only @20k miles ... So thinking it might be an idea to upgrade the wheels if necessary?

Or a gentle nudge to where I can find the information myself would certainly help ....

Should be stamped on the back of the wheel.

Hi MisterB.
If you do start looking for alloys you will find not all websites list the load ratings for their wheels.
Some do , some list ratings for only some of their offerings.
You may have to enquire about the ones that you like.

An update on the Avus that was a possibility.
Load rating is 850Kgs.
Underrated for my MWB Ducato.
