Ok. So may be a little over in my figures. But I am looking for a motorhome again, this time to full time for 18-24 months then keep as a weekend toy after.

I have a healthy budget (£60-£110K) and am open to all options including RV's if I can fit them places.

However it seems that all the high end UK one's like the Carthago Chic line ones have the worst lounge areas I have seen in any motorhome.
carthago_c-line_5.9_-_031.jpg

They can seat 6 people for dinner in zero comfort. There is no way to properly relax with a movie like you would at home on the sofa. And I don't ever want 4 other people for dinner. Just me and the missis is enough.
IMG_1165.JPG

I viewed this new Kon Tiki today and while the cab seats are nice recliners there is again a random bit of wood to stop you putting your legs up comfy on the sofa part. guess you could cut it out. But the sofas. I mean look at them. flopping down. No side wall to lean on and pass out during said movie. Its like the people who design every motorhome have no idea how to make something comfy and just want to get as many seats in as possible to be able to say hey look at us. We can seat 19 people for lunch in ours.

Rant over... Help... find me a decent one. Ive looked at hundreds and they are all crap.

p.s. this is all I want to do.

We bought a 600x600 table top from a van converter and just swapped it with the existing table top, pictures here: https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/table-tops.278788/post-5499156

We've also had the same guy make us a matching utility shelf to fit to the kitchen bulkhead and rest over the bench seat headrests....had something similar in the Rapido and it was so useful for a bit of extra worktop when serving food or doing the washing up.
Fantastic. Thanks. Sorry for slow reply.

The only thing I dont get with German motorhomes is the shape of the lounge, one big long seat and one small jump seat. Even on some 9m motorhomes. If Swift and Autotrail can make better use of the footprint, what cant they.
The jump seat in my i138 is my leg-rest so that I can put my feet up and lounge in the comfy driver's seat (RHD). Also there is quite a bit of storage under there, which is accessible from inside and outside. I like it.

Great for putting your feet up but swift and Autotrail have two long sofa seats which mean two people can lie down for A snooze

See if you can find a L shape seating, I have mine built like that and it’s a very sprawl out seat.

I might get slated for saying this, but……….

Exactly how I felt, so I sold the motorhome and bought a caravan, plenty of space to relax in comfort and also the advantage of having a decent car to drive around.

We have a Burstner Nexxo T720 in which we can either lay back on the reclined captains chair, or the long settee and look straight at the TV in comfort.
Or relax on the settee bed and watch TV, with the base cranked up to rest on.
I agree with you that most are not really set up for comfy lounging and TV watching, they are often one or the other.
The Burstner is for sale in Motorhome Fun classified.
We offer with it, if you want it, a Hyundai i10 toad car 2017, 19,670 miles only, which has been so useful when on our travels

Cheap option, I slob about on a giant beanbag in our Van more comfy than the seats, fully portable for outside and stuffs into the shower (tend not to use it as site ones are better) if needs stowing.

Wow....
Just WOW!

This thread has soo many comments, yet there is no correct perfect answer.

Everything is a compromise, van life doubly so!

Also, a chair that 1 person finds perfect doesn't suit anyone else....
MoHo' can cost from under 10k to over £10 to the sixth...

Cushions might help.
Me... Big fan of being outside, rather sit uncomfortable outside than in. Just grateful I have the van choice.

X etc

We have a Euramobil 820 HS which may suit your requirements.
It’s fully winterised so ideal for full timing and has an abundance of space inside for two persons.
Huge U shape rear lounge and a double dinette and side Settee at the front and I’ve yet to see a bigger bed in a coach built in the over cab.

Hey David, here's my RV, 8.9 metres long ( 29ft) which I bought new. 7.2 ton so ok on car licence, just returned from Italy , Switzerland and France . Fits on all the sites, feels a little bit big and wide at times but still not damaged it in 3 years ( might have nudged the mirrors on the UK border post at Calais a couple of times). Just about to put it up for sale with only 8900 miles on the clock currently writing the advert and selling for a little bit more than your budget but I'm happy to have a chat. I'm in Alrewas Staffordshire and a quick check today with the dealer I bought it from said the exact same van, new today with all the extras I've had fitted would be 200k !!

Hi Gavlad, It has the Triton V10 petrol engine, to be honest I've never worked out the mpg ' cos I didn't want to spend every holiday in it crying my eyes out. I would say it's single figures but I had a big LPG tank fitted from new and I get a good range on that for much reduced fuel costs. Have had no problem finding LPG in France, Portugal , Spain and Italy.

The Le voyageur is pretty comfy but like the others the side benches are for sitting, not lounging. Captains seats with feet up is very comfy, as is the bottom left corner in the picture

View attachment 790926
I have always found that the captain's seats never turn quite enough to align your legs with the sofa's to be really comfortable, same old problem those who design them probably never test them.

Surprisingly, both of these do…… just when the swivel reaches the end stop, the seat aligns perfectly with the bench which makes it really comfy.

That does tick all the boxes except the cost of fuel.

My worry would be cost of parking it for full time living. I’d have to be on sites and that throws up availability. Cost and can I fit to start.

Some sites are £25 a night now same as a 2022 mortgage 😬

All options are still on the table though. It’s just a case of mathing everything out.

Dare I ask how far over my budget you are ?

The dealer said it was worth £115, 000. I've mentioned it to a few people in the motor racing fraternity who might be interested ( not to use for racing, teehee) and as I've finished using it this year ( I think ) , I'm in the process of emptying it...I really didn't believe just how much 'stuff' we have managed to store in the van , it's taking me ages !!
I'm not in any hurry to sell and , of course, everything is negotiable ;)
If I can avoid the obvious pain of advertising, and the people who turn up 'just for a look' I will.
If I don't get a sniff in a couple of months I'll give it to an RV dealer who will sell it on brokerage, I've spoken to a couple who are very keen to try and sell it for me, I'm not surprised, you want to see their brokerage fees ... eyewatering. Keen to avoid these if I can as well .

I sold my motor yacht this year and they took about £5k commission for that at £80k plus they got another £4K off the buyer for mooring and £1k for a survey. Licence to print money.

You don't have a hot rod that you drag round in a trailer by any chance do you?

Upvote 0
Hi Herald, not a hot rod , but I did a few seasons in superkart. Too old and fat now though !
No worries, we were in the peaks a few weekends ago and saw an RV looking just like yours and they had a colour matched trailer with some form of hotrod inside - wondered how the navigated the road with such a train length!

We have a new kontiki 884 and that wood panel isn’t like that on ours, I think they are the launch models so you can put you feet up properly, let me know if you need pics.
We’ve got the 744 Kontiki with the wood panels at the front end of the lounge sofa designed to stop you stretching your legs out when watching the TV. Spent a couple of hours dismantling the panels, sawn to just above the seat cushion,
Managed to re-use the edge trim and problem solved. Just had two weeks in SW Scotland and only had a leak from nylon pipe union under the bathroom sink, kitchen sink cupboard door screws came loose and door swung open en route, Hab door insect screen came off bottom track and top bracket of door umbrella holder came off. To be expected on a 6 month old Swift…you don’t want the list of what I have dealt with previously! Nice looking base for a decent motorhome for those engineers amongst us willing to rebuild it properly.
