Ok. So may be a little over in my figures. But I am looking for a motorhome again, this time to full time for 18-24 months then keep as a weekend toy after.

I have a healthy budget (£60-£110K) and am open to all options including RV's if I can fit them places.

However it seems that all the high end UK one's like the Carthago Chic line ones have the worst lounge areas I have seen in any motorhome.

They can seat 6 people for dinner in zero comfort. There is no way to properly relax with a movie like you would at home on the sofa. And I don't ever want 4 other people for dinner. Just me and the missis is enough.

I viewed this new Kon Tiki today and while the cab seats are nice recliners there is again a random bit of wood to stop you putting your legs up comfy on the sofa part. guess you could cut it out. But the sofas. I mean look at them. flopping down. No side wall to lean on and pass out during said movie. Its like the people who design every motorhome have no idea how to make something comfy and just want to get as many seats in as possible to be able to say hey look at us. We can seat 19 people for lunch in ours.

Rant over... Help... find me a decent one. Ive looked at hundreds and they are all crap.

p.s. this is all I want to do.

Our first MH had a fantastic u-shaped lounge, and it was the best lounging area....we used to look at the Euro vans with their tiny lounges and laugh. But making up the bed up even night soon got old.

A couple of MHs later we now have a C-Line with that tiny front lounge...but actually it's plenty comfy: hubby sits on the turned-around passenger seat, and I have the bench seat, and we both use the seat by the door as the foot rest. It's actually way more comfy than you'd expect....tho we have replaced that huge table with something a bit smaller (which makes a big difference).
That’s good to know. I’ll go camp out in one at a dealers for an hour or two and try to watch a movie on my iPad

Have a look at carthago liner for 2, large rear lounge with "lounging" space and drop down single beds over the cab, which, seem solid without needing to turn can seats etc. Lovely bathroom, and also decent garage capable of carrying bikes.

As above liner for two could your cup of tea.

Here no one is allowed to put feet on seats, feet stay on the floor😁

Came across one of those last night. I thought it looked awesome. I assume they are only 2 traveling belts though?

It’s going to be me and the missis full time but I’m a divorced dad and every other weekend I’ll have my two young kids for 2 nights so I’ll need belts and a bed.

Do like that liner for 2 though

One of my pet hates not only a rear lounge but the way the van is deigned with. Shower etc at the front and the front seats don't swivel, it's like living in a van half the size. It is a copy of the Hymer Duomobile which has now been discontinued.

You say you are going to be living in it full time for a couple of years, have you considered store age?
You get the best storage in twin single bed layouts with a huge garage.
If you don't like singles with an island bed it needs to be a large tall van to get a decent height in the garage otherwise not very easy to get bikes in.

Totally agree with this. Same for us. What have you replaced the table with please?
We bought a 600x600 table top from a van converter and just swapped it with the existing table top, pictures here: https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/table-tops.278788/post-5499156

We've also had the same guy make us a matching utility shelf to fit to the kitchen bulkhead and rest over the bench seat headrests....had something similar in the Rapido and it was so useful for a bit of extra worktop when serving food or doing the washing up.

What I particularly like about the Carthago lounge is the large pull-up TV behind the seat by the door.....its perfectly placed for movie watching (and much larger than a lot of TVs we've seen in MHs). Just a note that you might need a cushion or two for full "loungability" on the bench seat: I have a couple of cushions in the corner of the bench seat and then stretch out across the MH...legs partially along the bench and feet on the seat by the door.

My mate has that in his E Line I hate it, you can't watch TV from the passenger seat. So only one comfy captains seat for watching.

Can't see why anyone wants to sit in the same seat you have been sitting in all day, with these rotating things.
Why not design your own van then get one of the many places that build them build it or better still build it yourself then you know it's right.

Hahaha, just shows how people are different :giggle:
Hubby prefers to sit in the swivelled-round seat with his feet up and I prefer to stretch out on the bench seat for watching TV/movies/playing on the Xbox etc. so it suits us just fine. Much better than the rear L-shaped lounge in the 9094 (because of the sofa shape and the location of the TV inevitably there one of us was comfy and the other one not so much). There's no doubt that the Bailey had by far the best lounge of them all (including a very convenient pull out drinks table)....its just that the entire rest of the MH was a compromise.

The only thing I'd change in the Carthago lounge is to have a newer version with a bigger TV (you can only fit a 24" in ours, the newer ones come with a 32").

But it doesn't work very well with 4 in the van, we sometimes go into my mates van to watch a movie together, I'm alright being a guest I get the driver's seat, the other 3 are squashed around the sofa. :giggle:

For me the best place to lounge is outdoors. The van is where the fridge and drinks live. A place to sleep.

If you are going to spend all your time inside sprawled out watching TV you might as well stay at home.
I agree with that but would never work in the UK, that's why nearly all our trips we go south and as we live 200 yds from the English Channel it makes sense. :giggle:

I agree with the OP and look forward to the time so many makers lose the knee fetish and make a van that doesn't cram all the living space up front. I don't care how many angles/positions and heights your fancy table can adopt, but my knees are still touching yours when you invite me for a drink. '\ You expect it in a panel van, but you see it in 8m vans. Stop it, there is nothing wrong with opposing sofas, lets get back there. My tuppence FWIW. :D

The front seats do swivel, they have small units behind them so they can be used as small work stations if you are working from the van.

I don't think the ones in the Hymer did.

We have a new kontiki 884 and that wood panel isn’t like that on ours, I think they are the launch models so you can put you feet up properly, let me know if you need pics.

You have an option of a lighter wood finish, I actually like the darker wood maybe because their lighter option is too light.
But its orange, be like living inside Donald Trump🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dethleff Alpa I-7820‐2

Huge rear C lounge that can convert to a massive double.
Drop down bed above front cab, absolutely solid and can lie lengthways or across, and I'm 6 foot.
