Does anyone use AdBlue?

If you do, do you know how much benefit it provides?

It's injected into the exhaust, right, so it has no effect of the engine, performance or fuel economy whatsoever. It basically converts "some" nitrous oxides back into nitrogen and oxygen.

I just bought 10 litres for £33

That's more than twice the price of diesel... and it's two-thirds water. The other third is urea - urine... pee... wee-wee... I'm trying to use the less offensive words... it is actually dilute urine and I'm paying twice what I pay for diesel. And I have no idea how effective it is but I do know that I'll burn more diesel to haul 10Kg of dilute p*ss around. I must be mad.

What's annoyed me is that the spout wasn't long enough to open the anti-spill device in the filler so I had to make my own spout up. What a faff!

Even then, the spout isn't long enough to get the last 50cc from the container into the filler!

I don't think I'll be buying AdBlue on the road again.

Strikes me as the sort of thing the petro-chemical companies figure they can make a killing on and some dozy politician decides they can make their name on and in fact it does no good whatsoever. But I could be wrong - please enlighten me :-)

Is the ratio of Wynns to Adblue (50ml to 10L) a recommendation from Wynns?

thanks
The larger bottle of Wynns holds 500ml, it says in the instructions '"one 500ml bottle treats 45-75 litres of Adblue"
maths is not my strong point, but as I have some containers marked up with 25ml and 50ml I concluded that 50ml to 10L was about right.

That looks a bit on the shy side. Should be 70ml to 10L.

Yeah but 10 litres of AdBlue will last considerably longer than 10 litres of diesel. The comparison in price isn’t relevant. You will get probably 3000 miles from that 10 litres. Wish I could get 3000 miles from 10 litres of diesel.
We have been doing some figures on LWB Transit minibuses.
Which are broadly similar to many Motorhomes.

It seems around 20 litres of AdBlu gets you about 10 fuel refills.
A tank on a transit gets you about 400 miles (if you are lucky, with the wind behind you)
Perhaps for calculation purposes work on 3 tanks gets you 1,000 miles.
10 tanks would be around 3,500 miles
or
VERY roughly six liters of AdBlue per thousand miles.

I just use the small bottle for my MH. Dose up a container of AB as per instructions on the additive (for the volume of AB) and top up the MH tank as needed.
Dramfineday I see there are two versions of wynns: commercial vehicles and passenger cars.

Which one do you use and do you just use the whole bottle then fill up the adblue?

Thanks

My |Adblu usage on a Ducato 2022 160ps after 8000 miles is working out at 2666 miles for every 10ltrs of Adblu. Happy with that.

I think as a 'rule of thumb' one can work on about 1 liter of AdBlue per tank full for a typical motorhome.

Obviously there many things that will alter the figure as town travel and motorway travel will produce very different figures.

Our new one did about 1600 but expect as it wears in should get better

I got 1,108 miles from my last 5 litres...
Is anyone tracking their Ad Blu usage?
We've a 2021 Imala 625 with the 2.3 160 engine and the auto gearbox and I'm getting about 106m/litre over around 12k miles, which is double your consumption.
Is there any adjustment?
Should I be talking to Fiat?
I agree that pricing in the UK is a total rip off. I buy 2 or 4 x 10l drums online at about 85p/litre, but that's still high compared to most places in Europe.
My local BP Garage was offering a 'great price' deal recently of only £28.99 for 10litres. B&M is typically £10.

But what was your starting datum? Ducato's seem to be supplied with the bare minimum of Adblu on board. I got the first warning within 1000 miles of getting our new 2021 2.3 140hp Ducato. Filled it up, and never had the warning again since. I've now done just shy of 30,000 miles in the last 3 years. I fill up the Adblu (using a forecourt dispenser) perhaps 3,000 to 5,000 miles, when I see it cheap. I don't think I've ever needed to add more than 10 litres for the nozzle to cut off.

My usage does seem unusually low compared to what others here are reporting, but it's a PVC usually running around at 3,200 to 3,300kg. I'm averaging 36mpg for diesel. If you're a coach-built or A class running significantly heavier, and always blatting down motorways, and only achieving mpg in the low 20s then I can see why your Adblu consumption would be correspondingly greater too.

Think they're taking the #@&£(adblue)😂

That is horrendous? I run at 3,3T with roof rack & roof box & average around 33mpg.With both removed 38 or even 40.I can push 1000kms+ .I leave here for the Uk & don't need to refill until I get to Jaca ,around 800kms when it is still over 1/4 tank showing.

Our local Scouts run a fleet of 7 x Transit minibuses.
Different ages and models, but most are high roof (2.7m) 17 seaters.
All are over 3.5t, usually 4.1t. and about 6.7m long

We do an annual run with 5-7 minibuses from London to Fort William,
550 miles each way, plus another 300 miles per minibus of running up and down the Great Glen.
Equals about 1,300-1,500 miles per van per trip, with a lot of that at 62mph.
Each van is full loaded with people.
Each van is towing a trailer, either 8-10 canoes (= about 2t) or a 2.5t box trailer piled to the roof with kit.

We are typically getting low twenties in MPG, 22-23'ish.

Even my 3.9t, 2018 Mercedes Sprinter based Hymer will only get 28 mpg (= 10 litres per 100km) on average (mostly motorway driving at 65mph)

I tend to agree with you. It is yet another scam for the ignorant. It will save the world and all that shit. Unfortunately we have no choice to use it or not as the new vehicles are set up to use it and you cannot eliminate it if you want to pass the MOT.

Our 2022 Ducato PVC is our first vehicle using Ad blu. Ours is a series 8 2.2 140hp with a manual gearbox.
I've recorded every top up for 12k miles since new and we are averaging 286 miles per litre. Obviously I don't know how much was in the tank when we collected it new and don't know exactly how much is still in the tank since our last fill. I simply buy a 5 litre bottle every 1200 - 1500 miles, it empties without overfilling and I've never seen the warning light.

The 286 miles per litre is a useful figure, thanks for sharing it. My Series 9 has an AdBlue gauge and I thought the Series 8 was the same. The gauge makes life a lot easier.

Adblue is currently not an MOT item.

Ducato 2.2 18,000 miles over 2 years. Don't monitor, occasionally look at the gauge and fill when the low level light shines.
Never had an issue.

My 3L BMW x3 M40d uses about a litre of adBlue every 1000 miles at around 35mpg.
Our 2016 Euro6 2.3L Ducato doesn’t need adblue, but im surprised how thirsty the ducatos appear to be on it compared to my BMW .

Does your BMW weigh over 3.5t and is shaped like a brick?😀

Topped mine up for the first time this week it took 13.4Lt at 1900 miles but I don't know how full the tank was to start with.
The Fiat guage is a bit naff only reads 25% blocks.

Fiat say not to use additives so if under warranty best not to in case they dip the tank if you have a claim.

a Ducato at 25mpg is uses 40% the fuel as a vehicle doing 35mpg
Assuming the adBlue dosing is proportional to MPG, I’d expect the Ducato to return something like 714 miles/l of adBlue if the BMW does 1000 miles / litre . To be delivering 250 miles per litre means it is using 3x the amount of adBlue / gallon than a BMW engine - they is a lot - so is the fiat motor that dirty / producing that much NOx that it needs that amount of adBlue to neutralise it?
