Actual vet charges for Animal Health Certificates across UK

Keith Davies still has a Google maps of recommended vets in Europe which is regularly updated, can’t seem to find a link to it.

I use “Pages Jaune “ and put Vétérinaire in the search box.

With regards to La Mailleraye vet I have used them for years and they used to have a receptionist that was very helpful and spoke good English.Last time I was there was September 2019.Valérie is there now who features on their website and is classed as a Veterinary Assistant. She doesn’t speak any English at all ! I speak reasonable French but wouldn’t say I was fluent. However I did manage a verbal punch up with her when I discovered that they had given Daisy a rabies injection by mistake ! For the previous 3 or 4 years I had been having my cocker spaniel’s annual vaccinations done at the same time as the Worming treatment for returning to UK. Instead of checking Daisy’s records they did a relatively new combination vaccine which included Rabies. I was there on a Friday evening just before they closed and only found out after returning to my van.I always check that the details are correct on the relevant pages for the Drontal treatment. When I found the entry on the Rabies page I was really concerned as it was not entered correctly. There was just the Vet’s signature,no name of where it was done,no phone number and no lamination sticker ! Fortunately they were open next morning and Valerie was extremely apologetic and repeatedly said in French what do you want me to do ?
She was going to use their large stamp of the practice details and I told her to put that in the “poubelle” as it wouldn’t fit in the box ! She then used the smaller stamp which didn’t work properly and wrote in the phone number by hand.I then showed her where the laminated stickers were. It was a one year vaccine and when I checked in at the Port Office in Dieppe they said oh you have had the rabies done 2 months early but it is all fine.View attachment 464942View attachment 464943
so you now looks you have a 3 year vaccination not needed until 12 /8 / 2023. so it will seem to confirm that even in France if the right vaccine is used it can be 3 years.

Ok, so I’ve spent quite a bit of this afternoon putting together the ‘Project List’. It is now in a separate thread:

Vets in EU - research project list

If you can, please choose a region for research. Thank you.

PS Those of you opting for regions in France have quite a head start thanks to Phill D in post #417 above. (y)

I’m thinking of putting together a ‘Project List’ of regions in various countries in a separate thread. Something along the lines of:

France
1. Normandy
2. Brittany
3. Loire Valley
etc

Belgium
1. Flanders
2. Hainaut
etc

Germany
1. Baden-Wurttemburg
2. Bavaria
etc

Each Funster then chooses a region to research for vets - and posts which region they have chosen. That way we should avoid duplication of efforts.

Do you think that might work?
My brother in law lives in Belgium so I will ask him check this out with his local vet in Walloon.

This is interesting about overdosing.

Could yodeli Frankie helps us with a French version of an email to send. I can ask my family in Holland to either enquire for me or to give me a properly written email.

Sonja
I can help of course but what do you want me to translate? I 'm sorry but I have no time to go through the whole thread , can you quote the email you want me to translate please?

I think the 3-year one was given by a British vet .

Sorry I didn’t make it clear it is the middle one on the Rabies page that was done in France, Versican Plus L4R. It is a UK Pet Passport and my vet uses Nobivac.
The vets that originally set up Alphapet,my vet for 25 years, have very recently retired. You now have to go to Portsmouth for out of hours care. I will hopefully be changing to Priors Leaze Vets who have very reasonable AHC charges and also have their own out of hours care. With a dog who will be 11 this autumn it makes sense.

The profession as a whole was very disappointed that we weren't on the list that allowed us to continue issuing Pet Passports.
Do you happen to know why the UK is not Part 1 listed? According to DEFRA we meet all the requirements for Part 1 - although I have not been able to find any mention of exactly what those requirements are. Apparently DEFRA are also continuing to press for Part 1 listed status. Is this likely to happen? If we did manage to get granted Part 1, could this subsequently be revoked?

No idea. UK was an early instigator of the pets passport. We obviously comply with all the rules (we've been in it from the start) have no indigenous Rabies or land borders with any country that has. And no concerns with professional standards or fraudulent passports issued.
Spite?
I was never for Brexit, and still think its a poor idea overall. But it does seem that some in the EU want to see a real disadvantage to the UK on leaving. The only bit of work I'm doing now is exporting animal products to the EU. My impression is some parts of the EU aren't going out of their way to make the process clear or easy.

As for getting the listing back, yes we may well do eventually but I can't see it being high on anybody's priority list. If we were back the list, we'd have to do something pretty bad to be kicked off it, but the EU could do it. Don't hold your breath about getting back on.

I was hoping that we might become Part 1 listed fairly soon. Obviously having one of my outrageously optimistic moments!

So I will be continuing with my plan to get an EU-issued Pet Passport.

Maz, I've no inside knowledge, but to me it seems there's a lot of animal health related issues which are more pressing. They could do it tomorrow, but then they could have done it yesterday, and didn't.

This is a sort of Brexit comment

I've said this until I'm blue in the face. There are some politicians/administrators in the EU, probably a majority, who think that it is essential that the EU hinders and obstructs the UK's growth and prosperity post Brexit, simply because they are afraid of any other EU country thinking they may be better off outside.

And for the record I'm very much pro EU personally

As Aireworth is a new user he may not have seen your 'blue face'. 🥶

It is definitely the case that some EU state 'upstarts' want to cause mischief, some are quite open about it.

What's the blue face about?
The classic " said it many times" until Blue in the face.
I think the reference is to as you are reletivey new you will not have seen his many same comments on the subject.

What's the blue face about?
He mentioned that he'd said it till he was "blue in the face" ... that's the only 'blue face' emoji I could find! :giggle:

The problem is is that their wish to ensure the UK is worse off outside is perfectly understandable from their point of view.

This thread has now become so lengthy that it is difficult to find useful information in it - but thanks to all who contributed to it anyway. (y)

I have picked out the vets charging £75 or less for an AHC, and posted it as a separate thread in the Pets forum. Hopefully, this will enable those Funsters looking for a reasonably priced vet to easily locate that information.

The new thread is entitled Animal Health Certificate charges - the Good Guys

Hubby rang our vet today (well yesterday to be precise seeing as it's past midnight! :giggle: ) and enquired about the AHC, they are only charging £12.50 for it, the same as they charge for a prescription, plus a consultation which is £33.00 - he didn't ask if the AHC charge was for a single dog or not so I'm assuming it's per dog, although happy to be 'surprised' by them if it's just per certificate (up to 5 dogs).

This was Vets4Pets, County Road, Hull, don't know what the other V4P franchises are charging, it may be a standard fee across the board or down to individual practices to se the prices.

What’s the situation with an eu pet passport. My pooch got issued with a French passport last year when her passport went missing in the post (long story) used it to get home with paperwork emailed over to cover her jabs etc. So she now has uk and euro passports

Just use the French passport from now on - you don’t need to bother with an AHC. BUT don’t let a UK vet write anything in it from now on as that will invalidate it.
