"A Year in Spain" My "last gasp" attempt at posting (informative info).

It's raining ... and forecast to be damp all week, all along the coast and inland for some distance. The upside is that the temperatures are dropping so we can now go further inland without sweltering.

Bye bye Galicia coast until next time.

It's already disappeared.

What a difference a day makes!

I agree. It's the thought that they were happy to take it that's a surprise. Martin says it was very full/heavy.
I imagine the owner of the Loo hadn't read the instructions...and perhaps thought it was a disposable item , once full....good to see it was removed....Oh dear me..."I've started a toilet thread, let's flush this one down the pan before it get out of hand"

I've been watching the weather as well, I'm at Villamuriel de Cerrato and it was sweltering yesterday. I had free EHU which was helpful to power the Viesa evaporative fan constantly. I'll be changing to lithium when I've saved enought pennies up and also for charging the leccy bikes. Cooler here today at 33°c max then dropping again tomorrow. I'm heading slowly towards the French border as I'm getting the ferry from Calais on 11th September, thought I'd explore a bit more of northern Spain while it was cooler than Nerja, I should have looked at the long range forecast😂.

Ah, that's a shame. The weather in the North is fickle but, for the summer, for us, it's perfect.

We've driven to Meira and we don't have rain, at the moment, but we can see black clouds.

We were here in July, but we only parked up to ride. This time we're staying overnight. We may have to head even further south to escape the rain. It's a balance between wet and heat.

Some cooling rain would be acceptable for me the next few days 😂. I will be following the forecast and if it's looking bad I'll probably head to Sobron for the worst days, it also has free leccy so the batteries will be ok for charge. Good luck! 🤞ps I don't know if you've been to Villamuriel de Cerrato before but I went out early on the bike and there's some ok off-road cycling and a long cycle path into Palencia nearby, apologies if you're already aware as you've obviously much more travelled in northern Spain than I am!

Doesn't look like it's going to clear up next week when we get there, may go west then into Portugal quicker than we planned.

I've just had a look on Wikiloc. We haven't been in that part of Spain for some years. Thanks for mentioning it, I'm keeping it in mind.

We arrived here with two other motorhomes. We went to the town for lunch. The whole town must have been in the restaurant we'd chosen, Meson Parrillada o Pozo. We asked about a table and we were told we'd have to wait, and our name was added to a list. We were pleased that, although we waited for about 20 minutes, we were called to our table in the order we'd arrived. No bumping the guiries down the list 👍.

We had an excellent lunch for €12 each.

We had another look around the church area and strolled back to a full motorhome area.

It's a harvest festival type fiesta on Sunday. I think we'll be away before then as the rain has followed us.

There's blue in the sky this morning so we're risking a 40km bike ride. It was very quiet here last night after the kids had all stopped playing football in their new area. It's been built since we were here in July.

The motorhome area is also next to a residential retirement home, so we reckon loud noise won't be tolerated here 🤞🤞

Our ride was almost perfect. One short stretch on an uncut track gave me a lovely bramble scratch on my right shin, so the next bit of nasty vegetation made us turn back.

We got back onto the route, after the nasty bit, and from then on it was really pleasant.

The only sad bit was that, I've never seen a badger in Spain and today we saw one, but dead at the side of a minor road.

We rode in lovely sun, but about 40 minutes ago the rain arrived.

Checking out the nasty bit that we turned back from! Who can blame us?

Last night I must have turned over sharply, but my previously injured ribs started to hurt and I had a headache. I took some liquid paracetamol and went to sleep.

This morning I was still feeling some discomfort around my ribs, but the headache had gone.

We decided to drive 15 km to Mosteiro. It has a motorhome area with all facilities, including leccy, for free. No one was there. Bearing in mind the lack of motorhomes, we decided to continue to the next village with motorhome parking. Only three official places, but there's no-one around here, is there?

Three motorhomes, had taken the three places. Undaunted we parked behind them and went for a walk, confident that they'd be leaving 😂😂. They were still there when we returned, but one left during lunch cooking. Our part cooked lunch travelled down the road and was hungrily eaten, and we're now parked for the night.

I've found a ride to do tomorrow, we're now in the lap of the weather gods.

It's not a place I'd recommend for holidaymakers, it's a small, inland, typical village, but it's good for us.

I once had the most excruciating back pain. It came on in the campsite loo at Grange over Sands, as I bent forward to flush. It was the worst pain I've ever had (not had kids, so can't compare it with that). It felt like a zip opening the wrong way and I could hardly move any part of my body.

The next day though, I was back out on my bike, and the day after that I ran in an orienteering competition.

I'm so lucky to have a body that, so far, forgives my transgressions.

I had similar once in the 90’s still a youngster, in a swivel chair at work and turned around to reach something behind me and bang… couldn’t move, ambulance had to take me away in the chair..😆 once at hospital a couple of shots later and nothing ever since..🤷🏼‍♂️

Isn't it strange how these things happen? Once.

Ooohhh, I'll try sellin' some to NASA ...
Better not....they only accept it if it came from the source....

Which leads me on to seasonal change...with Meteorological Autumn just around the corner, I decided to cook jumartoo a very seasonal breakfast...I prepared the delights the night before...(Soaked) and this morning my specialty was served...in bed...the first Porridge of the trip...of course I have My oats every morning...normally served with cold milk, nuts and fruit...sometimes with yoghurt, but as the weather is somewhat cooler (cold) it's a great time to celebrate to coming of the cooler times...👍🥳🇪🇦

We're now parked at another place not in our "normal" zone, but we drove just far enough south to escape the rain.

We're at the, highly rated, motorhome parking at Montforte de Lemos. It's a bit scruffy, in our opinion (especially after the pristine places we've parked over the last two months), but lots of Spanish seem to like it here.

We set off to walk up to the Castle/Parador. Anyone not able to walk up hill can drive there. Then we headed off downhill through the maze of the old town and back along the river.

I've found a ride to do tomorrow (I think I've posted that before) and, we may stay on again afterwards, if its quiet tonight.

We've had a mix of sunshine and showers today. We're happy with that.

Tomorrow's weather here is forecast to be slightly better than today. If so, that's good for a bike ride 🤞🤞

There's a Brit registered motorhome parked across, diagonally, from us. Of course yesterday Martin had to go to say hello. It turns out Mike is not a Brit but he's from South Africa. He's having problems charging his various appliances, guess where Martin is again.

Mike is interested in photography and wildlife. He's seen three birds in Portugal that are native to SA!

We went for the strangest ride so far. Not the best of routes but it got us out for a few hours. We did a few km on a gravel track alongside a motorway, then turned away through a nice forest. We were heading for a "curious col" but we never saw anything 🤔.

We then had a strange detour that we thought must be taking us to somewhere worth seeing, but it just did a circle and came back the same way.

It did take us past a lovely house with a peach tree in the garden.

It's looking very autumnal now. And from the dry fields, we've crossed the line from cool, damp Galicia into the, hotter summers, area.

It brings home to us just how small an area we have to travel in if we want the cooler weather in July and August.

Parched land.

Judith…. Scrumping is a thing I used to do as a kid, I haven’t grown out of it…😱 especially if it were peaches…😆😎

I "scrump" a lot. Brocolli, caulis, oranges, lemons, figs, etc. when back in Murcia and the fields and the trees have been picked. Today, the peaches were in a tree in the garden of a very nice house. I took a photo and rode on!

Today we drove to, and down and back up the other side of the River Sil. There are many vineyards in the area, some of the fields are clinging to the side of the very steep hillsides. At least three of the vineyards offer motorhome parking (I expect for a wine tasting and a purchase).

There are also boat trips down the river gorge. Parking for motorhomes there could be a bit tight.

It was misty on the drive over, so the photos are a bit dull.
